Look at his backpack with the straps, also that rock climbing looking helmet. So bummed right now, as I just got my Lifeline recently. Anyone know if that pack has been used before? That helmet is def unused.

The helmet is going to come with Mouse in the series 2 three packs. I'm sure they'll get that back pack out too.

Honestly, as cool as those accessories are, if they had to cut some stuff I think they made the right choices. And it's not like the figure didn't end up with a good load out.

I was fine without that stuff. Honestly, I could have done without most of the accessories he had if it meant we could have gotten a classic backpack.

Really? I gladly gave up the classic backpack for the sweet stretcher. And the suitcase is by far his most important accessory.

That is true, I'm not saying what we got wasn't fantastic, but those 2 pieces bring a lot of character to the...character. Also that's great to hear we get it with Mouse.

Oh yeah, was referring to the stretcher and most of the junk inside the suitcase. I assumed it was a given we'd get the suitcase. :)

But I also understand the appeal of having all of that stuff, too.

Is the harness not the one that came with the Paratrooper?

I can see why someone would want the classic stuff, heck most of the time I'm right there with you, but I think in this case the stretcher made more sense then a communications backpack.

You're right, Xenos. I hold up Lifeline, Airtight and Sci-Fi as perfect examples of how Hasbro can satisfy the ARAH/25th crowd and the modern fans. All told, I am very happy with how Lifeline turned out (well, except for the painted hands, but ... ya know).

Also, the harness is different I guess:

Yeah, those three (and Low Light) are pretty much the pinnacle of modern GI Joe in my mind. I've said it before, but I would really love it if Hasbro made a subscription service like He Man has where they release one figure a month that is at the same level of quality as those four guys. I'd gladly pay $25 a month for that.

Tunnel Rat was a decent figure, but very much needed a backpack to hold his extra gear. I ended up giving one of the black "POC Firefly style" packs from my Crimson HISS to TR (the Crimson Horseman has the other - I thought those packs on the tank was stupid). I wish it was brown, but it works well otherwise.

I used to pine for a sub because I thought it could be like that. Definitely what I had in mind for $25 a figure. Not the stuff the Club put together. I guess I had hoped Hasbro would put more weight behind it.

Agree! I think we'll see that gear with something else. We've already seen that they're gonna be using data viper parts with retaliation 3 pack figs.

Well that was only their first shot and of course they aren't gonna put a lot of weight behind it in case it fails. IF we ever get that one and IF there is a second wave I think it would be better.

Just about every single renegades/30th figure was missing accesories they were originally shown with.

Snow Wolf
06-27-2012, 08:32 PM
True.

SE (sword shelf, etc), Lifeline (backpack & helmet), Renegades CT (shield), Sci-Fi (extra machine gun), ZVC (extra z compound canisters and tubes), Renegade SS (chain weapon), Airtight (?? had containment unit painted yellow, and different hose from weapon to backpack). I wish Hasbro would've made Airtight's helmet connect with his backpack like the vintage o-ring version.

Just about every single renegades/30th figure was missing accesories they were originally shown with.

Yeah, I think people who reminince so much about PoC and 30th tend to forget Hasbro was starting to cut corners, even as far back as PoC waves 5 and 6 and 30th wave 1 (NONE of which had any new parts or accessories).

I strongly suspect we'd continued to see fewer new parts and lighter accessories.

But to be fair, we had no issue paying $7 for 25th, many of which had even FEWER accessories.

As for the missing gear from Lifeline's appearance at ToyFair, release them with a repainted Lifeline and name him Stretcher. Joes need all the medics they can get.

That is like the proverbial American Airlines olive situation. What that is, is in 1987 American Airlines found out that by removing one olive from the salad plates that they served (back when airline served more than peanuts) actually saved the company $40000/year.

Same is true with the backpack and helmet. By eliminating something small, it saved Hasbro more money.

I think hasbro made the right choice on skipping the classic oversized radio backpack in favor of the awesome stretcher and cool accessories. The classic short wave radio on his back may have serves a purpose in the 80's but now days that type of device can fit in your pocket.

Lifeline's good for me...my only gripe is the word RESCUE can't be read explicitly even with the kneepads removed. And even it was read without the kneepads, who in his right mind would remove 30th Joes's kneepads for the sake of a decal?

On another note: are so bored with Retaliation that we're complaining about Lifeline? I complained about the knee pad when i first saw it, but once i owned it, i didn't mind it at all. I'm happy with the release we got. The way things are, we were really lucky to get all that. Made the $11 I paid at Walgreens worth it.

Not everyone likes to paint figures. I know, anything can be a custom. Also, he needs some parts swappage. I'd like to see them use the Renegades figure but with the Wild Bill vest and Bazooka's legs (unless they'd look too gawky on that torso).

He's coming. I think this is the clearest sign yet. I wouldn't be surprised if they announce it at con.

I can live without them. Was just saying it as a personal preference, since all that extraneous stuff went into the accessories bin. But I do understand the appeal and need for items like that.

I don't miss any of that stuff. I'd rather have the figure itself, instead of all the extra crap I'll just lose in my parts bin.

In the old days the figures came with a helmet, a backpack, and a unique gun. An extra item like a knife, flashlight, or pouch was cool once in awhile.

But now with every other figure coming with a stand (well, not anymore) 3 rifles, 2 pistols, knives, goggles, masks, swords- it's ridiculous. I don't need more tiny parts to lose. I miss the days of molded on knives in sheaths and guns in holsters. They looked cool, and they didn't fall off every time you looked at the toy wrong.

The lack of some accessories was done to keep the price down. Yet this does not explain why Hasbro insists on packing oversized spring loaded weapons with the figures? Of course with Life-Line (as with Doc) they loaded a butt load of accessories into his pack. I was pleased with what we got and did not even realize that he was missing his helmet for rock climbing.

I love this figure and as cool as those accessories looked, I'm sort of glad we didn't get them. As much as I use Lifeline, I'd probably not have kept the 'chute on, since it would've likely required taking apart his legs to take it off or put it on. I've been creative in adding some accesories to him, but i'm happy overall with what I've got. In fact, I'm glad they didn't give him the old radio backpack, I never really liked it.

The body sculpt on that zombie Cobra Commander is excellent. Why can't we get that figure with a normal head? Fix the head and slap that bad boy on a dollar general card and I'm in.

Somebody has to explain why there was a zombie Viper and why so many of these concept figures are zombies. I don't get the appeal of the whole zombie concept. It just looks like someone took a perfectly good sculpt and ruined it.
