In case you haven't seen Viper6's incredible Sea Devil (Sea Ray Custom) and Hydro-Viper, I added a link below. He mentioned wanting to produce a small run of these with Blue Prints and a couple of inserts (Maybe a poster featuring all the collaborators past work: Mayhem, Cobra Stickers and viper6)

http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-joe-customs-finished-projects/245193-3rd-party-prototype-devil-ray-w-sea-demon.html

I actually took the day off from work to make some alterations. I spent most of the day yesterday working on logos and background.

We are still working on some details for the box. Maybe a character or story bio on one of the flaps. Also the back needs some fine print and contact info.

I've included to different sample so you can see how much it's changed since last night. The newest sample is the one with the Action Heroes and Enemies logo.

Critiques are always welcome good or bad. Is there anything you would add or take away from this?

I like the idea of packaging, but it looks like you're designing this to be a window box. Have you considered how you will hold the custom in the box...or not that far yet?

Love the work you've done, but to mirror what Nova said (though for slightly different reasons) - while the window box looks terrific, it might be cheaper and just less of a headache to have it come in a closed box. If you're doing a window box, you've got to worry about all the die-cuts lining up, etc.

Just from a design perspective, I like the packaging as is. Love the way you have the vehicle diving into the waves. I would suggest having the figure on a solid color block though (like the figures are on the 25th Anniversary packaging) to set it apart from the background and make it more visible.

Not Feeling that Eagle design!!!#2 is the way to go!!!

the eagle design isnt quite what i have in my head....it was just a quick lil work up of a much better looking one with more realistic bird and flames, wanted a line name and to pay homage to ARAH. but i do love the ray on there.

yes, the ocean part is an insert with clear tie tapes to the figure and vehicle

Sorry. I haven't slept.

That's too bad we can't use the HissTank logo. But on the bright side I picked up the print out today and will attempt to make a prototype.

EDIT: (Never Mind I figured it out) So what do the mods recommend I do about the logo? Can I replace the updated images here or do I have to start another thread?

Just state here we wanted a nod to Hisstank but for legal reasons we can't so final product will not include their logo...that should cover it.

I really like this so far. I would do the words customs like the G.I. Joe logo. What price point are we looking at for these?

this is astounding.

the only thing that's bugging me is the lime green V6 Customs. I think you should change the color of that to more of the missile yellow. lime green is making me think about ratfink's logo and this is so badass I want you getting credit where credit is do. plus that green is the only color not represented on the custom itself.

who knows?, might just be me.

input always appreciated; maybe hydro viper purple for that logo and making the manta ray design red and angled left(already ran that by carlos), think thatll be better. not sure i wanna use v6 "customs" the v6 in the spade is me, thats gotta stay but instead of customs maybe studios, industries, objectives?...something else.

I hate to say it, because I can see all of the effort going into this, but I am not feeling this packaging. It just doesn't have the look or feel of GiJoe at all to me.

I understand that you can't use Hasbro or Joe logos, but your best bet would have been to mirror any of their packaging themes to give it a uniform look.

You could probably have easily used something like the 25th look for a template because it is very simple. You could have even used the same fonts, colors, and logo placement, just changed the words to whatever you wanted. And of course the classic back of GiJoe vehicle boxes always have the diagram-looking photo of the actual item and the driver standing next to it, along with bullet-points describing features (pointed to on the vehicle picture). Perhaps you could have even created some "art" for the box front/sides by taking a picture of the actual vehicle and driver in a pose of some sort and then using photoshop or another program to transform that picture into a "painting."

I hope I am not being too critical, but I would want this thing to look like a real production piece as much as possible. And that means making it look like it fits in the line

I really appreciate your comments.I agree with pretty much everything you have to say. MOC collector's might be turned off by the lack of GI Joe branding.

I would go as far as saying that as a collaboration, we are in the Alpha Phase. It's too early to tell what's going to happen. I can tell you I'm very excited and welcome any feedback we can get.

UPDATE: Alright, I finally got a chance to put this together. I ran out of blades so some of the cuts were a bit rough and my cat bit the one of the corners.

I haven't printed the backdrop because I want to make sure the vehicle fits properly before I go ahead with that.

Studios sounds cool and classy. Good luck on this. It is awesome, and I would love the opportunity to purchase a "line" of inspired 3rd party toys.
