View Full Version : Are we as Joe fans really ready for second base?

We got a mobile pit for RoC which has gotten a mixed reaction. Do you think we are ready for a second large movie playset?

And will some of you ever get to second base? You know, get to buy another base after the failure of the Pit?

It's pretty hard to top the 84 headquarters. It had a cell, computer station, vehicle bays, defenses, landing pad...

Now that I think about it, I'd be happy if they tooled new side walls and just released the center section, omitting the vehicle bays entirely. Maybe add some electronic feature using that rear storage space to house the circuitry

It really depends on the size, and the playability, but yeah, for me deffinately. I am ready.

I think the issue here is that for some reason just making a BASE isn't enough for Hasbro.

For some reason it has to double as a vehicle...have half a dozen sound and light features spring loaded gimmicks etc.

The 84 base and even to some degree the late 90's base (which had some gimmicks) what made them work was they were...just a base.

Simple boxes of platforms and computers etc...and sadly they just will not market that anymore.

I'm not saying a base/vehicle is impossible as I love the General and to a lesser degree the MMC, but its clear that Hasbro has the mind that kids like gimmicks and if it doesn't do three things and have lights and sounds and an incorperated Snoopy Snow Cone Maker than its not gonna appeal to kids.

Idk I wish they would do smaller play-sets like the wallyworld exclusives but have the ability to connect them. I would settle for an updated version of the TRANSPORTABLE TACTICAL BATTLE PLATFORM.

Wow it's getting steamy in here!

Seriously the ROC Pit was horrible! If I hadn't have gotten mine for free (thanks Kohls!), I would feel totally ripped off. If they make a new base, I'd prefer a redo of the 1982 base or a Cobra version of the 1987 MCC. Maybe a series of bases that are made up of interlocking parts (like the older Playmobil castle sets; they can be combined to make huge custom castles).

or they make it available in modular sections and expand on the original, then the cool kids can complete their HQ or the poor kids can have a section thats a stand alone playset.

You mean the one which was showen on that secret files of hasbro panel on some con?? Yeah that would be great it look pretty cool.
And Im in minority but I like the RoC PIT. Yeah its obscure as a main base but I threat it as a Mobile G.I.Joe base not their main base and in this role it fits perfectly.

Unless it totally rivals the Terrodrome or the Flagg... no... never. I do not have the space left to allow such atrocities such as the ROC Pit to take up in my display room. Display space for me is now like owning property on Boardwalk...they gonna have to pay me to put something else on display lol...now the remake of the ROC PIT from those pics of the cancelled POC cobra Hiss tank/ICBM launcher crawler might work...but they need to get it out now while I am still interested...

You can still purchase them. There is just a 2 moth wait list. They are as much as a base as anything else that we have out there.

So you think you guys will ever touch a boob?

I'm touching one right now. Admittedly, it's still encased in fabric, and its owner is moderately surprised, but it still counts.

As for another base playset, I don't have room for one. Not to mention there hasn't really been anything compelling for quite a while. Any base worth its salt would probably be too large for retailers and too expensive for casual buyers (e.g. kids and their parents). I like the idea of standalone pieces that interlock, but I don't see that happening any time soon.

I would not mind a Tactical Battle Platform. It does not take too much plastic to make one of those and I am sure they would sell really damn good!

Seeing how worked up some people get here over little soldiers, no, boobs would probably cause an aneurism or something.

Seriously, still no. Too many people seem to be of the "wait for the clearance" persuasion. Like I stated in the new mold vintage style Night Raven thread a while back, how can you pick up a ton of Skystrikers on clearance then expect Hasbro to deliver a new and bigger jet so you can just pull the same crap again?

Hasbro, and more importantly retailers, are probably pretty gunshy when it comes to stuff this big. Even if we remove the cheapo collectors from the equation they'd still probably be more inclined to release something lackluster anyway to save costs. In the long run that'll just ruin the potential for future large playsets. I don't see Hasbro ever fully backing items like the Terrordrome ever again. Unless we find a hidden petroleum pocket in the Earth that can last us for a thousand or so years, I'd say picking up vintage offerings on eBay may be the only route for us.

When something like that gets clearenced out a month after it's released doesn't some of the blame for that problem fall on the Retailer themself. No wonder people say "I'll wait for clearence" when it goes on clearence the following week.

Zombie F Body
06-26-2012, 05:26 PM
What the SS? Just recently got clearanced around me before the latest Target reset. If it went to clearance that fast in your area it was more than likely facilitated by lackluster sales across your district, area or US as a whole. Who get's the thanks for that? If they were flying off the shelves like we basically intimated to Hasbro they would, there wouldn't be issues like this.

People plan to what for the clearance before most items are released. Joe Con 2012: New Terrordrome coming in 2013! Great, all our pestering has paid off. I'll wait for the clearance!
