View Full Version : Is there still a market for MOC 25th Anniversary items?

I'm thinking of getting rid of the majority of my MOC/MIB collection from the 25th anniversary (and a few of the 30th/Ren) because my collection has gotten too big since I bought two of almost every figure (in the case of the BATS, 10). Is there still a market for these guys that I can at least make what I spent on them back or am I better off just keeping them all?

if they are MINT on card you can hold out for some decent coin. nothing crazy.
my advice is dont sell, you'll be sorry... they are too purdy.

you know 16 of those protective cases fit perfectly in a large comic box for easy compact storage. buy 2 boxes and then rotate your disply.
id also suggest cutting the number down to your favorites. you've got a lot there, but there is a lot of fat you could trim.

You'll find out exactly how much of a market there is onece you sell them, regret it, and then pay double to buy them back in 5 years.

Most 25th figures will sell for the the same or less than what you paid for them. There are certainly a number of exceptions, but in general you won't see any significant money by selling them.

What you have there, my friend, is a piece of history. Unless it's a matter of life and death, don't sell them. Because someone out there will try to haggle, buy then resell those gems on a scalper price. Now we sure wouldn't want that, don't we?

In this economy, and with other stuff hitting at this moment (con stuff getting ready to flood eBay), I'd say wait a little and the market will be better when people have nothing to buy.

BTW, I just realized I don't have any updated pictures of all of the stuff I got in Jan and Feb like the Arctic Hiss, Stinger, and then the Renegades, 30th, and POC stuff.

Yes, that is already what I planned. Like I would be keeping Resolute Snake-Eyes, Battle Armor CC, Resolute CC, Resolute Duke, Resolute Trooper, IG Destro, the second Zartan, POC Dusty, POC Zartan, Renegades Storm Shadow, and then a lot of the multipacks.

It wouldn't be the first time, and now I am selling off my Beast Wars again because my love for Transformers has really diminished due to the movies and the cancellation of Animated two years ago.

That is going to happen no matter what.
And in all honesty, selling them would help save up since we want to move into a new apartment that is twice the cost of what we are in now.

Just store them away with your powers of the force 2 figures in Iron Mountain or maybe the salt mine where the original reels for Citizen Kanem Star Wars, Gone with the Wind etal are kept.

That's the SW figures that came out in the mid-90's that everyone bought a ton of hoping that they would be able to keep them MOC and resell them to fund retirement in a few years n

I do not start collecting again until RoC, so I went back and have been filling in my collection for the 25th ever since. Sometimes I will find really cheap MoC (like $5), but on average I probably spend $12 / figure. Can't think of one that I spent more on.
Truth be hold, I usually just use the "BIN" option. If I did the auction route, presumably I could pick up the same figures a bit cheaper. Point being, probably not a lot of $ to be made.
If I were you, I would just keep them all, to the extent you can. No collector will ever have enough space, so don't worry about that. You obviously spent a lot of time / money to buy, what is a great looking collection, and the passion does not go away. In 2 - 3 years, it would hit you again hard, and you would spend 2-3x that to buy everything back.....So, enjoy them....they look great.

Yeah, but you also have to think, I also collect MOTUC, Transformers, One Piece PVCs, Sentai and Kamen Rider (in fact, I just got into the Figuarts line), DCU, Voltron, Godzilla, and some video game figures. If GI Joe was my only collection line, then yes, I would not be having this conversation or these thoughts.

Most 25th figures are going for like, $4-$6 MOSC on ebay and Amazon these days...Now obviously, there are some exceptions (variants, figures that were hard to find to begin with, figures from later waves, etc.)
The absolute best you could do is probably break even. If even that.

There will always be a market for the 25th stuff as it is what many adults are co ing back to for the nostalgia. Most want something like what they had as a child.

what would kill the market for it would be if hasbro released better fgures on the same classic style card art. then the 25th stuff would lose most of its desireability.
hasbro probably will do this eventually...

the market was good when the retailation movie was coming out. the hype for the movie made everything go up in price. once the movie was shelved till next march, prices started falling like the end of the world. I would wait till the movie gets closer and the hype returns. I myself have a lot of the same stuff and was comparing the online prices before and after the movie got pushed back. there was a significant drop across the board for 90% of the stuff.

I have a bunch of 25th anniversary stuff too. Debating on selling it. After cruising ebay and several sites, a few of the vehicles seem to be worth $50 or so... Like the Skyhawk & VAMP

I don't collect My Little Pony.
In all honesty though, I have cut down on Transformers A LOT. In fact, I've been selling off 80% of my collection over the last year. I pretty much only want boxed G1 figures, loose Classics, and MOC/MIB and some loose Animated stuff.
Even though I grew up on G1 and Beast Wars, Animated was to me the defining series of Transformers. It took the best of everything the series had to offer over the years and put it into one well written show despite the character designs not being realistic looking. Not to mention the toys themselves were 99% accurate to the models on screen, even in transformation. Ever since Animated was prematurely cancelled, my love for the line has dwindled to almost nothing. I even spent a week watching all 98 episodes to G1 back in Jan hoping that would respark my love for the series, but alas, it did not. And the garbage movies did not help. Finally, Prime just nailed the coffin.

Funny enough, the Sting Raider is the ONLY 25th vehicle I am missing.

So anyway, the more I am thinking about it, I think I am going to sell off almost everything that is not Resolute, Cobra Commander, Snake-Eyes, with a few items here or there (like the Dragonfly, Target Ultimate Battleground pack, and the DVD packs).

If anyone is intersted in unloading thiers, check out my B/S/T list and zip me a PM.
