Ripper is basically the same figure we already got in the comic pack, just with some different arms. He now has Tomax/Xamot arms. Ripper is colored to resemble how he looked in the comic book with the yellow shirt instead of the camo one the original figure had. The pants are also a darker blue and the boots are brown. I think the light blue the comic pack Ripper used for the pants looked like faded blue jeans, these just look too dark. At the risk of sounding like a super nit-pick, I'm not too happy with the ankle joint as they used a blue joint in the middle of a brown boot. The effect draws your attention away from the rest of the figure (Which may be a plus) Ripper comes with all the same accessories, Rifle, Jaws of Life, Hose, Backpack and Cobra Stand

So he's a repaint that wasn't completely needed, but there are one or two upsides. The upper arms are what should have been used on the comic pack version. Why Hasbro didn't just use the comic pack Ripper's lower arms on the Tomax/Xamot upper arms is beyond me. The Rifle looks better now that it's black with a silver blade instead of being completely silver. Also, the torso joint is much stiffer on this figure than the comic pack version.

Figure Rating: 4 out of 10

wow a pretty low score on Ripper. What was the original score on him? I really liked the comic pack Ripper. Thanks for the review.

We haven't reviewed the comic pack Ripper yet, but I can tell you, he's better than a 4 in my book :) This one just looks bad and the ankles look sloppy to me

the CP version is good enough for me...save a little dough. Cobra Diver w/ element and Tripwire w/ element were the only figures from wave 12 I bothered purchasing.

I'd give the CP Ripper a good, solid 8 and this new, repaint a very mediocre 5 (like Shogi said, the only upside are the Crimson Twin upper arms).

Shame on hasbro for not painting the skulls on the boots this time.

This is definitely a guy not a lot of folks wanted. I expect to see a lot of Gnawgahyde customs using the upper torso.

I want Monkeywrench on a single card. Where is he? Wasn't the first Ripper/Torch set perfect? They were to me, I think they're one of the best CPs we've gotten yet: 2 new characters, a lot of smartly reused parts and enough new bits to make them "new", and don't mind that their bodies aren't 100% true to the original. They work, and helped flesh out the original Dreadnok ranks with Buzzer.

Wave 12, despite being a "bonus" wave for collectors, is more of a "bonus" wave for Hasbro, since they know many of us will be buying them just to have them.

I agree there are only 1 or 2 guys worth getting in this wave. Now where is Torch on single-card? Lame. I don't want him wasting a single-card slot now, but it's weird that Buzzer and Ripper are now on single-cards (despite the new one being hideous). Hello, new 2009-2010 shelf-warmer.

I agree. Torch is coming in wave 13 so they will both be peg warmers for the next few months.

What a p.o.s!

As far as repaints go this is one of the worst yet, good for Gnawgahyde fans I guess though.

I was hoping the final product would have more of a tan coloured shirt similar to his cartoon style, but nope...we get Ripe banana Ripper instead.

The blue on his jeans is too dark and leaving that blue in the middle of his boots is just piss-poor quality. The only thing its got going for it is the Tomax upper arms which shouldve been used on the cp release in the 1st place.

Thanks Hasbro for completely stuffing up yet another Dreadnok...as if your butchery of Buzzer wasnt enough.

I was perfectly happy with the CP version, as were most others. Complete waste of a figure (then again, wave 12 is a waste of a wave). I'll pick up the two guys with elements, and probably the ninja-viper.

I'll pass. I like the CP version much better! How bout a Drednock 5-pack w/Monkeywrench, Thrasher, Gnawgahyde, Zandar and Zarana! Throw in Road Pig for good measure.

My comic pack version has a messed up looking head with a botched paint job. This one looks much better than mine.

For my money, worst figure in the wave and the sole reason I didn't order the entire set. Completely worthless. If they wanted to paint a figure that color make a new head sculpt, and call him Gnawgahyde. Maybe that was the original intention but the money wasn't there to retool a new and rather unwanted Dreadnok...

I usually get 2 of each figure (at least) to have one to open and one MOC. With this one, I think I will just be getting one to keep MOC, and skip the opener, since it is so similar to the comic pack figure. It would have been better to have a Monkeywrench or Zandar/Zarana figure, but I do still like having single-carded versions of some of the comic pack figures too because of the card art.

Maybe you guys will think that I'm nuts but I love this repaint of Ripper. I always wanted a Ripper with cartoon looks and now Hasbro make my dream a reality. If we get dozens of Duke, CC, Destro, SS & SE repaints, why not another of a secondary character that makes sense.ZAR(

Yep, if i want a Ripper(and i prolly will once i get single carded Zartan) this will be the one cause its more like his look in the toon.

Only downside i see is the blue parts on the boots.

As far as recolors go, the cartoon colors for Ripper I think were an excellent choice as a repaint. It is in my opinion, the best choice the Hasbro Team could have made on recoloring this figure.
My only complaint is the blue ankles look off.
I also like the Twins arms & tighter upper torso on this release, as well as the gun being black with the silver blade.
So thumbs up from me.

I think in a lot of ways this Ripper looks better than the CP. Which is odd, I liked the CP one a lot. I'll be picking this one up. Maybe 2 so I can improve CP Ripper as well.

Sigh .. guess I'll be seeing this figure warming the pegs the next few months, next to Ripper.

Since they absolutely had to put out a single-carded Ripper, I'd have rather seen him with his 2004 Convention set colors rather than 'toon colors.

I didn't like the CP Ripper (or Torch) for a variety of reasons. I like the upper body of this one better, and I hate the blues used on both pairs of "jeans." In other words, bleh.

The only thing I like better about him is he looks more toon accurate in design.

I know that I am in minority here, but I really like this figure. I love that Hasbro released the Ripper in the cartoon outfit. What makes it even sweeter is that this is a version we have seen in media, but not as a figure until now. He was one of the highlights of this wave for me. Honestly, I was more upset that Tripwire was released as a single pack after the exact version was in a CP. So what about the element that came with him, this could have been included in another figure with a bigger role in that mini-series. The only complaint I have about this figure is the pegs in the feet being a different color than the boots, and the pants are a tad too dark. I am getting one to keep in package and one to take out. As far as a custom for Gnawgahyde, the only similarity I see is the color. The shirt looks nothing like the Gnagahyde mold in the torso. Personally, I do not think the upper half of this figure is appropriate for this custom. Now I am hoping for the rest of the Dreadnoks, especially Zandar, Zarana, Thrasher, and Monkeywrench. I have heard many people want the same figures - what do you all think about the chances of Hasbro actually making these?

DarthBrett
11-18-2008, 05:10 AM
I think the chances of Hasbro remaking all of the Dreadnoks some day is very high (as in close to 100%), but the chances of them being made by 2009 is more like 0%. I think we'll see Monkeywrench and possibly Zandar and Zarana within the next year or so. Thrasher, Road Pig, Zanzibar and Gnawgahyde are probably not likely until 2010 (Thrasher, Road Pig) or possibly later (Zanzibar and Gnawgahyde).

man, if you just want to have your Dreadnoks regrouped, you certainly have to buy the CP version...

Someone to take's Buzzer place in the pegs... sigh

This is bad.. Hasbro will think Dreadnoks are poor seller & the rest of the 'Noks might not show up.
