I had to take pictures of The Cobra Trooper after having him lie around for 3 weeks. Thankfully I did not lose any accessories.
BTW, it is very hard to get a shot of the figure with the chute fully deployed at a higher altitude as it nearly reaches the ground before it deployed. Perhaps I should climb the water tower close by?
How many here have done this Para Drop?

Climbing the water tower to toss off a parachuting Cobra or Joe figure would be pretty awesome. But also possibly not the safest.

i truly love this parachute, and will buy a few more of these garbage troopers just for said accessory. it displays well with coffe filters inside it to balloon it open and then run a fishing line up through the center with a needle, knotted on the bottom (under the coffee filters which are under the chute; use about 5 filters).

Hopefully he broke his ankles. This is the same chute and harness for the avengers captain America deluxe figure.

It is the same. I did the same Para Drop with Captain America as this one.
IDK...that first pic looked pretty good
Is there a way to display him with the chute fully open?

Now who's going to try it attached to an Armadillor or Vamp... Maybe 3-4 Parachutes?

That would be very cool. That would require some height as to just throwing it up can cause a problem with the chutes being deployed properly.

A Joe one would be cool for figures like Rip-Cord and Crazylegs.

Hopefully they will make a Joe version. Or a Ashikarge lesser want but a GI JOE one would be great.

When I was young, 20 years ago, I used to do para trooper jumps with slingshots... they got quite high...
And I donīt recommend it if you want to keep your figure and parachute in good condition heheh...

When I was younger (2 years ago ;)) I also did some parachute test flights (for some rocket powered ejector seats I was making) - I found that folding the parachute (twice or thrice length ways) and then wrapping the cords around it as tightly as possible, then throwing it skywards as hard as possible underarm would usually result in the lines unwinding and the parachute opening on the way up somewhere near the top its trajectory, and it would then have a reasonably long flight down.

I've been wondering about this for a dio, the conclusion I came to was a couple of pieces of wire joined (soldered) in the centre to make a cross, then bent down at the ends to follow the curve of the parachute, and suspended in the middle (through the centre of the parachute) with fishing line.

I was going to suggest using a slingshot as an alternative to climibing up heights.

Hello, I liked the Retaliation Cobra para drop pictures.I am sure it feels
so good to see the entire action.I would like to know about the parachute whether it comes with the toy or can be bought seperately.

It only comes with the toy. It would very cool as many have said to have an accessory pack with a chute and other weapons in it like the older accessory packs.

Other than the logo's obviously, is this the same parachute and harness that comes with the Captain America figures?

Yes. The same Chute and Harness.
I've only found one or two of these at retail. I bought one, and tried the drop. The chute is heavier than the old SkyStriker chutes made out of polyethylyne (I think) and falls too fast to the ground.
This trooper is nowhere near as good as the old Ace at finding trees, luckily.
I remember an epic afternoon in san francisco. A few friends I was living with went to the roof of our apartment on bush street with a few dollar-store paratroopers. We would wait for traffic to clear and toss the troopers straight up off the roof, trying to catch a good wind. now this was like a four-story apartment in a windy city, where traffic below caused interesting wind swirls. Some attempts had the troopers drift an entire block with traffic, when we'd run downstairs and down the street to see if we could retrieve our toys.

You need the weight of the figure for it to work properly, however you can substitue any figure that you want. (paraviper cough!)

Either one of the 2 Para-Vipers would be cool as well as the Cobra Paratrooper (v1) from the Best of the '80s DVD Box Set. Perhaps I will have to take pics of them as well.
COBRA PARATROOPER (v1), YOJOE.COM | YoJoe.com: Dedicated to the G.I.Joe of the 80's, 90's and beyond! (http://www.yojoe.com/action/08/cobraparatrooper.shtml)
Also, I kind of wish the harness was black or the darker Cobra blue.

Here, here! These cobra trooper deserve to be played with. I applaud Hasbro for making a quality parachute. It's a great design that seems to hold up better than they way they used to be made. My son and I have had tons of fun tossing Captain America into the air. Sometimes his chute fails to open but luckily he's a super soldier.
A buddy here on the Tank has a Cobra Trooper for me. I can't wait to open him up and tossing him around too. And I'm going to try lardman's suggestion to see how high I can toss them.
@Starfighter: Really good photos in your original post. It is hard capturing it in flight but you got some nice shots.

Make sure to either clamp down the wrist with pliers or tape them as the hands can easily fall out. Just a suggestion.
Also, it would be cool to do what the Joe Club did with a 12-inch figure and take him up by plane and deplow him that way. That would be a cool site. In airborne training, we have our Jump Buddies (Joe Figures with us along for the ride in our pouches.)

I've often wondered about making a 3 3/4" scale-ish ram-air 'chute, anyone tried it or seen anything relevant?
I guess something like an MC-6 would be doable by cutting some panels in the back of a standard plastic circular chute to give it some forward movement, unfortunately it's raining otherwise I'd go out and give it a try :)

I did a parachute drop for part of my filmfest video. Hopefully you can see it next friday at joecon. We did 3 drops with 7 figures, and two cameras. I never could get the damn things to land near the camera, and once the wind blew the first three back on the roof. LOL. Fun stuff.
I had planed to launch them out of the cheetah tank at work. I conducted a field trial with just one trooper. Needless to say they are not designed to be blasted into the air by 150 Psi. I packed it like a musket with a shop rag for wadding and then the trooper on top of the folded up parachute. The parachute deployed too soon and was seperated from the figure by inertia. The chute went maybe 25-30 high, but the figure went 150 feet up and at least 100 out (way outside my intended drop zone). The parachute ended up frayed, and though I had thought the figure came apart, when we finally found him in the waist high weeds out behind the shop, he was intact. After that there is no way I was gonna risk $70 worth of joes.

It'd be interesting to see what a model rocketer could do for a high altitude drop.
