Have no doubt, that if you can recreate that pic with customs, you will be:

THE MAN.

Dam shame the remake didnt make it to theaters. they were in my town filming and blowing the shit up in a park a few blocks from my house, one the best all time classic 80's movies. would loove to see them in plastic.

If the Joe Con set had been Oktober Guard vs. Wolverines that would have been epic!

I would like to see the customs, but according to what I've read elsewhere, the movie will not be coming out anytime soon. The reason is this... In the original, the "Enemy" were thousands of soviet paratroopers who parachute in and take over... At that time, THAT was a real fear. But the remake had this collossal problem... Who were the enemy supposed to be? The "50's-Cold-War-West-Hating-Freedom-Hating-DAMNCOMMIES", AKA the Soviet Union, is long gone. So the remake originally had the "Invaders" being from a "Mideastern"country... Okay: Which one? Which country do we alienate AND anger by portraying them as our "Enemy": "Mideast Terrorists"? Terrorists can't even overthrow the government of their OWN country, MUCH less round up secretly thousands of paratroopers and planes to come and overthrow US! Then it was changed to Chinese, which was the BIG PROBLEM... As if thousands of aircraft carrying hundreds of chinese paratroopers could cross into american airspace without being detected or attacked and shot down, not to mention how China would react to being portrayed as an "Bloodthirsty-Enemy-Who-are-EAGER-To-Invade-The-United-States!". So, they used CGI to change the "Enemy" to North Koreans... The Korean leader Kim Jong Il and his successor, his son, are both certifiable nutcases to BEGIN with... And a movie like this would only make them worse! They might complain LOUDLY to the U.N about the U.S.... But they're liable to take it out on the countries around them, like South Korea and Japan. The movie is never coming out for those reasons.

The remake is currently scheduled for a November 21st release. From everything I've heard, it will be sticking to that date.

Didn't you love how actor (Harry Dean Stanton) who was famous for being the dad who said "Avenge me!" in Red Dawn was in The Avengers? He was the custodian who finds the Hulk in the smashed warehouse.

This movie kicked ass when I saw it as a young teen in theatres in the 80's! Great flick!

Harry Dean Stanton will always be Brain from Escape from New York first and foremost!

I just looked up one of the posts. This one is from the latimesblogs.latimes.com/movies/2011/09/red-dawn-remake-to-come-out-next-from-FilmDistrict. It states that MGM produced the movie in 2009... It also states that after MGM emerged from bankruptcy in 2009 no other studio wanted to touch the movie for fear of offending the government of China, which is a hugely important market in global film business. It also states that the producers used digital technology to change the invaders to North Koreans. And "Still, it took most of the year to find a distributor willing to take the movie on."

For me though, the real reason for its release is because it stars Chris Hemsworth, who played "Thor"... And also "it likely won't hit theaters until 2012."

I'm glad it hasn't come out. I'm tired of classics being butchered.

If they hold it back, it will not be because they want to make it 3D...
They will hold it back because focus groups say that they'd like to see more Channing Tatum(He will be playing the North Korean General).

I'm actually working on this right now. I have a different pic (from Powers Boothe's funeral), and I was gonna go that route. Or I might just pic my favorite unis for each character.

Yeah, everything I've heard about the delay has to do with not offending the Chinese. They are currently the big financial backers in Hollywood. I miss the days when we didn't care who we offended. I miss the Soviets.

That sounds like a damned Cobra invasion.
*shrug*

Hasbro: save cash, you've got a movie made. Just use some CGI magic!

Never thought of it that way... Now that would be cool... changing all the "Invaders" to Cobras, then doing some reediting to add joes to it. Too bad it won't happen though.

Ohh yeah. During the cold war all of the "Enemies" in movies were "Soviet Spies" or hired by them. After the soviet union broke up, it became "Terrorists from unnamed mideast country" or "Former KGB agents turned mercenary". Now, who knows... Maybe THAT is why hollywood is making "Bloodthirsy Aliens from another world who want to conquer earth and stomp on us like ants!" or "Supernatural creatures" the villains. Come to think of it... Who EXACTLY were the Avengers fighting in their movie?
