They used to do some really great figures, but they've lost more than a few steps in the last decade.

Still, if that Halo Falcon ever sees the light of retail day I'll be on it like a hungry fat man on fried chicken.

I just got my first three McFarlane figures ever, Carter, Jorge and UNSC Marine from the Halo Reach line and I am pretty impressed with them. I've never played Halo, don't know anything about it but the figures have sold me on it. After JoeCon is over I'm saving up for an xbox and the Halo games.

The only mcfarlane figures I ever had was a medieval spawn/giant beast demon thing 2 pack. They never got much play in my toy rotation though. ven as a kid I'd look at the spawn and like wet works figures in the store and pass right by them as they looked to ridiculous to me. And this is when I was 10/11 and should have been eating that stuff up. Then they started having less and less articulation which just upped my ambivalence towards their figures.

and why do you hate the Cubs? The same reason everyone else around 40 to 35 does, you would run him from school and the stupid Cubs were on instead of Jem, Transformers and GI Joe.

Almost no one between those ages likes the Cubs, many will not know why but if you bring it up they will discover that is the reason, and yes I wrote my psychology thesis on that !

i still have some of my old Spawn figures.
i still own the first one i ever bought- Series 7 Zombie Spawn (bad ass even today).

when they became too statue-y, coming with bases and you couldn't reposition them, i quit. no matter how good a sculpt, if you can't pose it, it sucks as a toy.

but they are already posed. and they arent really playable so thats why i dont consider them "toys". but whats the difference between a mcfarlane that is in a pose and you display or a figure you pose and display?

i would like to be able to change the poses every so often.
that is the difference.

I picked up a Prince of Persia Daston figure on clearance for 2 dollars.

I was pleasantly surprised! A very well made and articulated figure with great details! A pretty accurate sculpt of Jake Jillenhall too.

Might pick up more for my Barbarians customs.

i just dont get how not being able to change the pose would stop you from buying them. its not that you dont like the quality or detail, its just that you cant change the pose? i dont get it lol

Yeah, McFarlane did so many different categories, it's unreal. Total lack of articulation, but the detail and face sculpts were #1 in their day.

why does everyone keep bringing up articulation??? they are already posed

Because they prefer action figures to nerd Hummels, which is what McFarlane tended to do.

Spawn series 22: The Viking Age Skullsplitter is arguably the best figure that company ever did, and, surprise, surprise, it's articulated. Oddly so in some spots, but articulted none-the-less. Personally McFarlane's old reasoning of the artistic aesthetic of the design would always trump articulation was joke when ugly (and useless) assembly joints started marring the torsos of figures and they started dumping painted clothes so Walmart would carry them.

I used to have a few of the early Spawn figures and several of the Movie Maniacs figures. The Movie Maniacs line was one of my favorite toy lines when I was younger. I wish I still had them.

McFarlane really had some awesome stuff back in the day. I really wanted to like their Walking Dead line. The sculpts looked nice but the paint on all the one I saw were sloppy as hell.

I agree on the paint issues for TWD, but I lucked out with having a large enough pool to select from. Managed to get the whole wave of comic figures with great paint. The TV figures, sadly, seemed to be overall much more poorly painted.

Yeah the comic TWD figures looked alright paint wise but I the TV series figures were awful which really sucks cause the sculpts looked really nice but the paint made them look cartoony..

I didn't mind them not being articulated. I collected them carded and loved the poses.

My nephew, who I would buy an extra figure for, would open them and did not like the lack of articulation. The fact that they were unequipped with moveable limbs and joints to battle other figures took the imagination out of it and he just thought of them as boring and static (same for much of his generation).

Plus they would break all the damn time :D

do you know how many times i have had to explain to kids why i don't play with my Spawn figures?

you ever tried to teach algehra to a dog?
you can repeat yourself ad nauseum and the fact remains, they don't get it.
what kind of toy doesn't move amd just stands there? why can't i play with it?

the first 5, maybe 10 lines from Todd and Co were "toys". even the metal Gear Solid figures had accessories out the wazaoo.
but somewhere, it changed.
who plays with their Sports Pics figures? nobody i know.

all the macfarlane stuff was inexpensive figurines, as opposed to buying pricey maquettes or busts.
