Simple question: Joe, Cobra or Free agent? Which do you prefer and why? I like the Joe version best (even though he's awesome as both a free agent and especially great as a Cobra agent). It just felt right, given how the Larry Hama comics told the story. I even put my Dollar General figure on a Joe stand!

He's a Cobra, he's chief of Cobra's Asian Ops, and I am thinking of setting him up as the head of Cobra's Sith Squad, as I am working on a Jedi concept for some customs.

He's a double agent, but his sympathies lie with the Joes. Snake Eyes has an amicable relationship with him. SS was accused of killing Snow Job back in '08, but was cleared of that when he turned up alive.

He rocks the cobra logo therefore he is cobra. But I do like the progressive story of the charecter and it makes sense that he would have more then one set of clothes I'm a big fan of the DG stormy so he goes in all my displays.

He can do whatever he likes and no side can keep him. Cobra just gives him more freedoms and joes have a bunch of guidelines and rules.

Formerly a Cobra BAD*SS, he now is a loner who OCCASIONALLY accepts missions from Joe Command. Ironically, in MY Joeverse, the Only person he associates with (from time to time,) is Spirit, whom he views as a kindrid soul (also a loner.) Tho' he and SE get along amicably (Now,) they each tend to give each other a wide berth (unless one is in Dire need of the other (Silent Interlude) ...

Interesting question. I think of him as a covert third party. Infiltrating Cobra not for GI Joe's agenda but his own. So I display him with Cobra but in my mind he's not really working for them.

It was more interesting when he was with Cobra and had to keep up his cover with them, but was secretly working against them. I always felt his potential as a character kind of disappeared when he joined the Joes. At that point he just became GI Joe ninja #2.

Cobra!

He is a Cobra. Not so much a follower of the ideology and struggle, but someone who recognizes Cobra Commander as something the world needs and therefore stands as his bodyguard.

Of course, like all three dimensional characters he has the ability to be convinced otherwise and switch sides. But by default he is an agent of Cobra. I always liked when Storm Shadow was allowed to be a little bad in the early comics. : )

Both....I have him displayed with the Joes (along with Ninja Force) and with Cobra (along with the Red Ninjas).

As a big fan of the Marvel Run(in which he was part of Cobra for all of 20-25 issues), I almost always use him as a Joe.

He doesn't so much stand, as kneel at Snake Eyes feet with a blade at his throat.

He made his choice, there's no going back.

Put it into perspective. If he was an agent of AQ Yemen, do you think the American government would say, "sure, we'll trust you with this very important top secret mission." or do you think they'll extract what they can and throw him in Gitmo?

He has been cloned many times over each figure, er clone has its own alignment. Some fight for Cobra some with the Joes others walk their own path.

he has been freed of mindbinders brainwashing and fights with the joes. cobra replaced him with black dragon as top ninja and leader of cobras ninja forces

Slice and Dice lead Cobras Ninja Vipers and Aleph leads the Night Creepers. That's more than enough of a challenge for SS/SE and their apprentices

He is cobra but he does things by himself. Cobra Commander gives him a mission, he goes out and gets it done without anyone's opinion. He is a lone wolf. At least that's how I see him...

In my verse he usually stands across from Snake Eyes!

But he is always Cobra in my verse.

Right now in my Joeverse, Storm Shadow is in a puddle of his own blood with Master Chef's (Joe Trooper) boot on his bullet-riddled head.

He joined Cobra as Cobra Commander's bodyguard and then later joined the Joes.

Just an aside, but does anyone know if Storm Shadow ever found out in the Marvel comic how the Sofr Master died?

Free Agent

A realm-hopping, demon-killing, robot-destroying, artifact collecting, world-saving free agent.

Pretty sure Firefly told him in issue 126.

Okay I just checked, SS already knew by then.

In my head, Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow are both assassins for hire who just happened to be working for opposite sides. Either one of them could leave if they wanted too, but for both financial and personal reasons they stay with the side they are on.

Once I got the DG version he's aligned with the Joes on a contract basis...answering only to Hawk. And just out of curiosity is anyone else sick of the gratuitous sword swooshing (the crazy figure 8 air cutting)???

Well, to me he isn't a good guy. He is an an assassin, spy and saboteur who is head of a clan of like individuals. He sells his clans skills to the highest bidder which would pretty much make him a free agent but the background of hatred he has with Snake Eyes seems to ensure that whatever side SE was on Storm Shadow would be on the opposing side. So, pretty much Cobra.

In my G.I. Joe chess set the Cobra versions of Storm Shadow are knights. The Joe versions are pawns that play in front of Snake Eyes.

Hands braced on hips, perpetually angry.
I think of him as a free agent who is using Cobra to achieve his goals, but with no real commitment to their cause. Like marriage.
He is dark to SE's light in worldview and feels compelled to reinact their conflict over and over to try to create a new ending. Like marriage.

LOL! Best interpretation of storm shadow I've ever heard.
