You forgot to cancel before the free trial period ended?

Dude, not to be a dick or anything, but they tell you that you are automatically renewed at $79, and they use the card you signed up with.

Whether you read the details or not, it's there, plain as day.

when you sign up I believe it mentions this. I did the same thing, and contacted them right away and they reimbursed me.

First This ^^ It's called the TOS. You don't have to read it all but there is also fine print that states it.

I'm more upset that you paid $80 for Amazon Prime? Amazon Student is $40 for 4 years...you definitely got screwed.

I understand your concern about not getting a renewal email, and the overdraft fee. I get 14 emails a week trying to get me to buy something, but they can't have that sent out a couple weeks in advance? My renewal always sneaks up on me, too. They are good about refunding you when you ask, though.

FYI - you can share your Prime membership w/ 4 family members. My extended family members and I split the benefits and cost between 5 of us. We all love it.

That's why they do it. They know tons of people will forget about until they see it on their bank statement, and most won't ask for a refund.

I'd call their customer service and ask for a refund, and call the bank tomorrow and tell them it was an unauthorized purchase and they might wave the overdraft fees.

Yup, all these types of things work that way, and not just on Amazon.com. They lure you in with some kind of free benefit and free trial offer knowing some people will forget to cancel.

I learned my lesson way back in the day when the same thing happened to me with Classmates.com.

Amazon doesn't hide the fact that they auto-renew. They make that pretty clear when you sign up. Sorry, but this is just personal accountability. You should only be mad at yourself for not keeping better track of your finances.

Hey you get tons of free streaming video with Prime, and you can use their kindle downloads for one book a month like a library, so not bad I think. I got a deal by being a student so only $40 each year for 4 years, then $80 a year after that...

I milk my Prime membership to death. I'm a sucker. I know I only buy more stuff because of the shipping. I actually don't think I'd complain about the auto-renewal at this point and I still have until December.

The complaint is bullshit. Amazon is 100% clear on exactly what you are doing. If you didn't read it, you shouldn't put the blame on them.

As others have said, the $80 fee is well worth it for a lot of us. I buy so much stuff on Amazon, and it all comes in 2 days. I have even bought TVs, dehumidifiers, subwoofers, etc. Very heavy stuff... and it still shows up on the 2nd day.

And at Christmas time especially it easily pays for itself... LOVE it!

Not only is the complaint bullshit, but more so are the guys who are telling him to call and get a refund, file an unauthorized charge with your bank, etc. Bunch of friggin liberal crybabies who hold everyone accountable except themselves. "Its not my fault, I forgot!! PLEASE give me my money back!!!" Yeah...right. You sign up, you read the details, you remember theyre charging you. My insurance (home, auto, medical), electric, phone, internet and TV is all automatically deducted. I signed up for it, I know. I keep track of when it comes out. You think the company OR bank should give me my money back for FORGETTING!!!!!!! Come on people, get real. Be a man, take responsibility for your actions.

I agree with your first sentence and the last couple. But keep your political statements to yourself. This has NOTHING to do with liberalism or conservativism. What says dude is a liberal? Why must something negative be liberal? And before you say I'm defending liberals, I'd write the exact same thing if it was a complaint against conservatives.

Exactly! It's stupidity like this that tanked the economy between Oct. 08 and Feb '09! Dumb asses taking out loans they couldn't afford and then blaming the fine print when it came time to pay their mortgage!

I agree on this 100%.

This is how it works, customers don't pay attention to what they're signing for/pay attention to what representative is disclosing over the phone. Then they get an auto-charge which was clearly stated on the contract/representatives disclosure and whine "I was not notified, give me my money back" after not keeping track if the duration of the deal was ending, which is also the customer's responsibility.

Booh-fu!3king-hoo.

And these companies who get whining customers have to apologize for any 'unexpected' charges. Right, they apologize for the customer's stupidity.

Sheesh.

It's true! There's way too much blaming companies these days. It's got to be a terrible time to be in business, if they're even still in business at all! If we make these companies beholden to every whining, limp-wristed manbaby that comes along, this economy is going to be in even worse shape than it is now! And what's up with men today? Why can't they man up? My cable bill went up 4 months ago with out ANY explaination and when I finally got around to calling to find out why, they said it was because of a brand new TAX that was levied by the 'current administration' and that they had been paying it for the previous year and a half but now could no longer afford to cover it fully. It only went up by 2 dollars, I really only called because I was curious and not because I cared about two bucks! Besides, it's only 2 bucks and the service is still cheaper than any of its competition in the area! Besides, I'd rather my two bucks go to support a private company than the bloated government. Hell, they'd likely spend my two bucks on crap for illegals or a hand out to some baby factory without a job!

More babies should get factory jobs so they can pay their amazon prime and bitchmobile membership fees. I hear ya brother.

No way! If we give the American babies factory jobs their mothers will want health benefits. If we do that, then those factories will close. Then the AFLCIO will get involved and every working man will get screwed by his lazy co-workers. I say we stop blaming the people who are out there trying to keep good jobs on the market and remember that when we bitch and moan about not being them, we're basically blaming them for their success.
