If you have the space the Hornet is a cool piece to add, but damn I feel lucky to have gotten my old Hornet for under $100 with shipping. BBI's Hornet is very very durable. Shame turbine fans were sculpted into the engine nozzles for some off reason but hell it's the only 1/18 Hornet toy out there.

I love BBI's modern stuff. How much of it is still available? And who stocks it anymore? I found my apache, Blackhawk, and Abrams, at target, several years ago.

BBTS has it up for preorder for $179.99. At this point mainly online stores are carrying them, I don't know if HobbyTown does(haven't seen any there), and Hungates was the last place I knew of that sold them but Hungates went out of business years back. Smalljoes has it for $160.

I love the paint scheme on this, really badass. However I already have the solid black F-18 and I simply don't have room for another. I actually sold the original gray one I had to make room for the JSI F-14. That was completely worth it, the F-14 is still the best 1:18 scale item I have even though it is fragile as all hell.

How well do the modern Joes fit in these BBI vehicles? I've considered these many times but never pulled the trigger because I wasn't sure how compatible they are with Joes.

At least some of the figures fit in them. Figures with Hasbro-sized thigh holsters need not apply.

That is a sweet price for an awesome piece, i just don't think i need another Hornet repaint. If it was an F-15 or a F-22 i'd preorder two on the spot.
But if you don't already own the 1/18 Hornet... YOU NEED TO GET ONE!!!
Totally worth it.

I wasn't collecting these when the first F16 and F18 came out. I really regretted missing them. I am so happy that they released them. While I really like the original F16 but the 9/11 tribute makes the new one a must have for me living in NYC and I'm glad I grabed one when I did. I actually prefer the new paint job the this F18. Can't wait to get one. They are HUGE too. The F14 dwarfs the Skystriker. It looks as big to me now as the Skystriker did to me when I was 8.

Maybe one day they'll make a modular U.S.S. Flagg that allows you to buy additional middle deck sections to extend it as you like. And if you're out there Hasbro I'd like a modular PIT! A hundred dollars a section and make em all stackable like storage bins. Make one of every level from the Marvel comics and let us design our own Pit one section at a time as we like. I'd drop thousand on that and my Pit would be six feet high.

Hope Bbi is putting any money they make (as the molds should be paid for at this point) towards that Mi-24. That's something I'd drop a couple of c-notes on.

And I'm still in mourning over JSI's J-11BS/Su-27UBK.

That would be awesome. We have been asking for a Hind in 1:18 for over a decade now.

I honestly don't think we're gonna get any new molds, Merit's borrowed Dauntless aside.

I don't think SJI has released any of their 21st molds in the last year, either.

Very nice, but it makes you wonder what these Japanese collectors do for work to be able to afford all that stuff.

The only thing I have to say about the F18 from BBI is be careful if displaying with gear down. Due to the design of the rear landing gears, over time, it'll start bending out and sagging, which is why I always had something under it at the rear holding it up so there isn't stress on the rear landing gear.

Cost of living is high in japan, everything is expensive. But then everyone works. They will have 2 guys digging a hole, and then 4 guys waving wands to show you how to safely walk around the hole.

IIRC that was on the early releases. I do remember that later runs were supposed to have been fixed, my Black Jolly Roger has held up fine.

The landing gear are made from PVC, it should have been reinforced.

Was the Red Devils release after or before the Black Jolly Roger?

That was a cool pic, but what's with the spots on the paintwork?
I wish Hasbro did decent paint apps on the new Skystriker, even as variants:

Whoever o.k.ed the weathering pattern. They were all like that. They fixed it, though, and none of the subsequent schemes have had an issue as far as I can tell.

WOW! If that's a true 1:18 scale F-18, that sucker has to be HUGE. Nearly 3 feet, at least. There's no way someone out there is making toys this big...is there? If so, count me in.

Which furniture should I replace to make room for one...

So how difficult is it to fit a Joe figure into the Hornet and the Falcon? I had such a difficult time fitting in a figure into the JSI F-14. Is it easier to fit a figure into the BBI birds? Its impossible to fit in a figure in the rear seat of the F-14. The canopy only goes up so much, I don't want to break it as that bird cost me an arm and a leg... but was worth every penny.

Konigstiger
06-26-2012, 11:48 AM
The Bbi birds originally came with pilots, so they are intended to take figures.

Good ol' Bbi overscale F-16.

Anyone have luck fitting in a figure in the rear seat of the JSI F-14? I was able to fit in Slip Stream from the 30th Anniversary Sky Striker but had to slice off his holster to get him to fit and yet it was still difficult to fit in..... what figures fit in the JSI F-14comfortably?

Konigstiger
06-26-2012, 12:43 PM
There was a guy that did static pilots for the 14. They may occasionally turn up on eBay from time to time.

I know its common for some guys to remove the lower legs on their pilots to assist in getting them in the seats.

So Joe figures fit pretty well in the BBI Falcon and Hornet? I'm looking to buy one of each, I just want to make sure Joe figures fit before I make a purchase. Had I known the JSI F-14 was so difficult to fit a figure, I would have held off on the purchase... I guess you can say i didn't do my HW.

Konigstiger
06-26-2012, 02:47 PM
As I recall they fit, though it's a safe assumption that figures with "Hasbro holsters" need not apply. It looks like Starfighter used Ace in these pics:

Ok great! I am excited in getting the Falcon and the Hornet they're releasing with in the next month or so. Thanks! I've got the BBI blackhawk, little bird, BBI special forces blackhawk, and the 21st Century Cobra. Wish they made a Hind or an A-10 Warthog for Cobra...... one can only wish.

Anyone own this puppy and if you do, got any pics? How is it compared to the BBI birds? Thinking of getting me one of these. I've got the JSI F-14 and the BBi F-18. Still going for the F-16 Falcon.

Konigstiger
10-17-2012, 09:56 AM
It's not 1:18 in the slightest. It's a Joescale vehicle. And while closer to scale than the Rattler it's still gonna be undersized next to any of the 1:18 birds.

As an aside, the F-16 is actually 1:16.5. Bbi botched the scale.

As an even further aside, Merit needs to make with pics of the UH-1? they teased.

The F-16 is actually too BIG. As far as I know they do, previous caveats about Hasbro Holster Syndrome apply.

The BBI stuff is ALL 1/18

It's touted as such, but the F-16 scales out large.

It's surprising to see how small the real ones are in person.

21st Century Toys had an A-10 prototype, but they never moved forward on it. After they went under they still had possession of it, and even tried to sell it on eBay. When they reformed as All-Go! they sent it to a customizer to have it updated, presumably so it could be tooled up for production (be it as a garage kit or a full realized item).

Let's just say last I heard it was a distinct impossibility now.

Yea I noticed that figures with holsters don't fit.... I chopped off the holster of the figure that comes with the 30th Anniv SkyStriker to fit in the JSI F-14...... dang did that take me a while to get him to fit....
