Hmm, when does collecting stop being collecting and becomes hoarding?

is it troop building if one keeps all the troops MOC/MIB?

I understand buying 3 of something.

1 to open

1 to keep on card/in box

1 for trading

What I dont get are the guys who buy 10 non troop builder figures.
ex: 10 Stalkers and keeps them MOC.

So I cant buy 12 DG Dukes for my Greenshirt ranks and customs just because it says "Duke" on the box? What happens when I have to order 5 cases of Retaliation wave 2 to get my 5x each of the troop builders for my army ranks and end up with 5 Joe Colton figures?

The extras usually go to the parts bin for fodder in most cases...which has in turned been turned into countless other figures.

that is not hoarding. Hoarding is when you collect every waterburger cup you have bought for the last 10 years and leave them on your desk or never throwing away anything ever no matter what it is tot he point you are buried in your house to the extent you cant see the floor or the ceiling and you cant leave the house as a result...thats hoarding lol...

-I'll only get 2 of something; one to leave MOC or open & one to trade or from multipacks ie KB Toys VvV

-I see no reason in troop building MOC figures

-I'm not sure someone's reason to troop build normal characters other than they really like them, if it's a common figure or pegwarmer then it's not preventing others from having one

-I'll tell you it is cool seeing 100+ of someone

You bought 12 Dukes to use as custom fodder. I can dig that.
I plan on making a custom of myself as a green shirt eventually.

No...well maybe...do you line them up in parade formations in the cards like dominoes? lol.....that would look really odd...

if the collector says so why not? not my cup of tea, i might do 1 moc but thats it.

i guess if they say it is, the burden of proof is on you to prove it "isn't" and i don't think you can do that.

I think it ultimatly comes down to the reasons for the collecting in the first place. There are plenty of fans (both in life and especially on the webs) that I wonder about. There comes a point where everything becomes noise and that is about when you should reconsider the aspects of your collection.

I'm not an army-builder by any means but I DO have 3 Shocks, 3 POC AVs, 3 SBs, 2 Ret Troops, 2 DoCI AV's..... Is that okay?

I look at this way...if George Lucas can have divisions of Storm Troopers of all various design standing at attention when The Emperor disembarks his Imperial Shuttle and walks down the rows with Vader in the middle of all of em...so can I... and have CC walking down amongst his Army I have amassed :)it looks amazing...and once my full display is designed and ready I cant wait to see how it fully turns out.

As far as buying large amounts of any figure to keep MOC, I really really just don't understand that. I understand that people troop build loose figures for various reasons, my reason is I'm working on a large Cobra Island Dio and I need troops to fill it up. I also sometimes buy multiples of unique characters if I like certain parts that they have and I'll take them apart to use for customs.

I would definitely call it hoarding if all you're going to do with it is put it on a wall. Why anyone would want to have more than one of even a troop builder MOC, I don't understand. What are you going to do with it? Customizers will build something out of the parts or loose troop builders will put them all on display in some kind of formation.

Before you start saying how closed-minded you think I am, hear me out. If you have a MOC collection and it's on display on a wall, isn't that the same as having an attractive painting or picture? If you really like a picture or print, are you going to buy 5 of them to hang on the same wall? I doubt it, because that's just fucking stupid. So why would someone put a MOC Cobra Commander on a wall and surround it with 3 MOC Vipers, 5 MOC Crimson Guards, and 6 MOC Cobra Troopers? It just doesn't make sense to me.

If that's what someone wants to do with their collection, fine, I understand everyone's different, but I just think it's pointless.

Everything is wrong until the person deciding what's right and wrong is caught doing it.
