Initially I rolled my eyes quite a bit at the idea of a Joe story set at SDCC, but Hama actually makes a really good point about it being the perfect place for the Joes to mingle... Looking forward to what he does with it.

Can't be any worse then the Blue Ninjas.

The con scene has been done before in the episode My Brother's Keeper with Sci Fi and Slaughter.
There was an Angel comic that did it too.
Interesting that Hama would mix in a DDP character or two into the current series. Although Storm Shadow's miniseries was on its own really and not truly connected to the events in the main DDP title.
I've been curious as to how all this will play out since I first heard about it.

Zing!

I swear the Joes showed up at a comic or sci-fi con in one of the Marvel comics, too. Either way, I'll be buying this issue.

As for the DDP Storm Shadow characters, I vaguely remember anyone from it...but I do remember not really liking it too much. But, whatever Hama wants to do, I'll be interested in reading it.

I really thought that was a joke cover and not a real story until I read this. I agree that it won't be worse than the blue cyborg ninjas. I do wonder how it fits with the end of the last issue where Cobra Commander captured joes and the town was destroyed.

Larry Hama will always be a god to me for his work on GI Joe, but he sure as shit ain't the writer he used to be.

Is he really any worse than his 1989 self?

Is he really any worse than his 1989 self?Hmm...perhaps you're right. Maybe I've changed instead. :(

His Storm Shadow series for DDP was actually worse then the Blue Ninjas. I quit reading it before the series ended - and I never do that, I love GI Joe. I just hated it too much.

At least we can hope that Blue Ninja cyborg spider thing is dead forever and we never have to see him again - he was almost as bad as Wraith!

And it was only like 7 issues! Don't worry, you didn't miss much. I didn't really like that series, either.

So far, the Blue Ninja/death of Billy storyline might be my least favorite Hama's done.
