Or I guess the correct term would be saya? Anyway, I started workign on these a week ago. I have a few more to make for the rest of my Red Ninjas, but I'm pretty happy with how they are turning out. Still need to go back and sand/shape some rough spouts, but I went ahead and painted them up to get a better idea ofhow they will look. They're just coffee stirrers with some greenstuff and a cut off back pack peg. Thoughts?

Very good idea that I will bee sure to steal. ;)

I'm not too sure the gold high-lights match the rest of the figure though.

Thanks Sam. I'm not sure what other color to do the gold bits in. I don't want all black, and I though red was a bit much. Gold felt like a good contrast to me. Other suggestions?

I do agree that either black or red wouldn't work too well. Maybe get some other little accessories (ninja stars?) and paint them gold and put them on him to go with the scabbard.

These look great! Can't wait to make some. I gotta say the gold or (brass) wutever its suppose to be, makes sense? However with no other gold on the fig, I think silver would look great. That's likely the route I will go. I wish hasbro would make round "saya" like this it would prevent shealthed swords from being bent over time by flimsy molds that are goofy in size, but are somehow super tight on the blades?

Thanks guys! I may try silver highlights instead, or maybe more of a gunmetal.

Very nice. I'm gonna have to find me some of these coffee stirrers that are thick enough for swords. I only ever see those tiny two holed drink mixer straws when I go out looking.

I just grab a bunch from the breakroom at work :D I've used different diameters dpending on what was available. The smaller ones make for a snugger fit, and if the bigger ones are too loose the green stuff around the throat can snug it up a bit.

Great Job! Looks really good. But I prefer to paint it black or Nato Black (very dark grey), more 'stealthy' looking I feel. :)

Target carries them, its what I used for my Red Ninja's.

That looks really good! I've done something similar for mine using styrene for the peg and straps instead. I used green stuff to fill the bottom of the coffee stirrer and for a tighter fit in the opening (like in this tutorial (http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-joe-customs-general-discussion/30097-make-your-own-scabbards-sheaths-holders-slings-belts.html#post525380)).

I'd go either red accents or just black to keep with the rest of the figure. One thing to try is to use less green stuff for the straps so they don't look as thick and uneven. I use styrene strips because they will remain even through out and it's quicker than using the green stuff.

You can also get the coffee stirrers at Panera Bread if you have one nearby. I bought a case (http://www.majhost.com/gallery/daremo/Multiple-WIPS/SE-Sword/res_se_scabbard_v2_1.jpg) of them years ago off ebay and still have thousands of them, lol.

Thanks for the tip on the styrene. I really need to order some and start working with it. I used that tutorial as my guide for these and many other scabbards so I used the greenstuff at the ends to tighten the fit. I'm eternially grateful for that tutorial :)

Bad ass Ta! These look awesome and the gold doesn't look bad, just out of place given the colors of the ninjas. Charcoal, German Grey, Flat or Satin Black would look good. Or, you could paint the straps black and then do some tiny fancy Arashikage or ninja scrolls in red on them. You can do it man, your work is insane!

Looks good but I think it's great that you have black coffee stirers. I can't find anything but brown or red.

Instead of destroying backpacks for the peg, try the inside of a cheap pen( the small tube that holds the ink). It works great and you can cut them any length !! Good luck and your sayas' look great
