Ok first off Hello Hisstank, I am TFW2005er that collects mostly Transformers and some He-man. I started an account to get some info because I can't seem to find any through google and I can't search this forum without being a member. I buy collections locally looking for Transformers. Well long story short I bought a collection from an ex-Hasbro employee that worked in Production for the GI Joe line in the late 80's through the 90's. In this collection were many awesome GI Joes Items. I decided to go through and see if their were any prototypes or whatever and found that I have 2 each of 5 out of the 6 Manimals scheduled for release in 1994. Of course the missing figure is Vortex. I talked to the guy I got the collection from and he gave me a background on the toys but I would like to know if anyone has any price points or ideas of what they sell for? They are the sealed bag versions and are not carded. They include all the weapons also. In my excitement I listed them on Ebay but I really want to get an idea of what I have because I have been bombarded by offers. The funny thing was that the same toy store, here in Rhode Island that sold that Unreleased Ninja Force figure for $3 last year or so also passed on this collection telling the owner that GI Joe was dead and they weren't buying anymore right now. Thanks a lot for any help and here are some photos

Wow really? I've had quite a few offers in the $3000-4000 range but thought only with Vortex included could it reach such a high price. I was actually going to take the auction down until I got more info and quite frankly the my e-mail inbox was blowing up

I just saw the auction. I can see this ending at $10,000 easily.

Should top that easily. There was a display last year at Joe con with all of them and the last prices they sold for. I can't remember exactly what they hit but the cheapest were still in the thousands.

I picked up two test shot Iron Grenadiers at the store I think you are refering to for about $3.00 or $6.00 a piece. I can't remember, but they were cheap.

By any chance did you get the manimals in a huge lot with tons of WWF figures? If so, I past it up and have been kicking myself ever since. I didn't know what was in it, I was simply asked by a relative to kick in $6,000 for the lot. At the time I had a baby on the way and a house purchase in the works. That's a lot of doe for who knows what.

Turned out the haul had a ton of pre-production figures, original artwork and unreleased figures. I keep telling myself the baby and house were more important, but man did I miss out :) Freaking Joe's, I'm so addicted I probably wouldn't have wanted to sell any of it!

This is great! I almost wished I collected Joe's just for these but they really should go to a collector who will appreciate them more than me. The lot was just in the basement of an older couples house that are moving away and need space and don't want to move a ton of stuff. They just decided to sell the stuff this week so before this they never really had anyone take a look at the stuff. Now I have to figure out how I'm going to ship these safely if they do go for big $$. Does Ebay or Paypal have an special policies on big dollar items?

When's the last time a set of 5 bagged went on eBay?

I'm not sure how high this will go this time of year. I imagine the buyers with big bucks will be there to snipe at the end.

Anyone think this set will go for less since the seller said he has a second set. Maybe some big spenders will be holding out for the second round.

Did he actually post that in the auction? I would have never posted that. I am guessing around 5000 to 7000 for this one.

I think that would help the seller get a lot for this set.

Very true. Higher price point or not, when do we see this? Never. Seems front page worthy to me.... Shame that I randomly had to stumble onto a grail for sale thread.

Once in a life time find OP... Kicking myself for not keeping an eye out on local sales lately.

eBay and PayPal, no. At least not to my knowledge. However there are several special handling options at the Post Office and UPS/FedEx. The PO even has one where the item is specifically hand delivered(presidential football style) by a courier. No joke. I have NO idea how much that would cost, though. Your best bet would be to head over to your Post Office and see what their advice would be, and also a UPS store if you have one nearby.

This one is a tough call. Vortex is always gonna be the missing one. But there's 5 of the 6. That's a hell of a good start. Bagged. Taped but bagged. Complete it seems. And from a Hasbro employee, not from China.
VSP's probably. MIGHT be different from others that are out there but that's always going to be the hardest thing to verify. Either way... gonna be a fun auction to watch.

The carded Vortex sold for $20,000 a couple years ago. Maybe this lot will approach that mark.

You never know who is out there looking at these auctions. I simply only have the money to support a small prototype collection. I rely on other sites to look at the really expensive stuff.

Highly unlikley.

If this thread wasn't here, I would Expect the price to be about $750 per figure...maybe $1000 each, because they're bagged and complete

Hisstank has a wild effect on ebay so I have no idea...though if this gets front paged, the Seller should probably kick $500 or so to Fran as a Thank You for the extra spike it'd be sure to get.

This actual figure is a prototype of the cancelled KB Toys 2000 set, not the 1994. I have exactly like this one along with the original one from 1994.

I really appreciate all the help I've gotten from this forum so far. Thank you to all those that have offered assistance and or bid on the Manimals. A few posts back some of you mentioned putting this on the front page. If this got put on the front page news thread I would absolutely give something back to the forum or the person running it. I'm currently going through everything else I have and hope to have some other cool rare items to put up

I think bidding may not go that high on this lot. Seems like a lot of people just don't have the big bucks this could or should bring?

Thats kind of a stupid thing to say...isn't it? Aren't there dozens of threads here that espouse the virtues of "sniping" Why wouldn't you think people who plan on "Bidding to Win" aren't going to snipe.

High profile auctions like this one are prone to having people unable to actually afford the item bidding just to bid, or to try and see a person's top bid and then retract their bid.

Also it's currently at $2300...that's quite close to my low estimate, Seller said he had private offers of 3-4K...no reason not to expect those offers to turn to bids... how much were you honestly expecting them to sell for?

Also it is coming up on Joecon. Best time ever to win bids on ebay is during Joecon...stuff goes cheap.

Yeah I guess I should have waited until after Joecon....but since I'm not a collector of Joes I wasn't really aware of it happening soon. Either way I'm excited. Whatever it sells for I'd be happy. It has over 500 views and more watchers than any Ebay auction I've ever had so it should be an interesting day. One thing I'm hoping for is that you won't see many of these at Joecon...unless of course a dealer buys my set and sells them at Joecon hahah

Ok I clearly edited the listing saying no 0 feedback buyers. This guy isn't going to pay and I have a feeling I know who is behind that bid. I have had several people try to strong arm me into selling this set to them and I was warned about a few of them from members on here. That account was started 2 days ago, do you think they'll pay? Probably not. I'm not mad about the price, I was actually happy it's just the fact that I knew this was going to happen with a 0 bidder. If they don't pay I'm keeping the damn sets. The headaches I've endured since I've listed them

Roshan did an awesome write up on him-
http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-joe-toys-vintage-discussion/168258-vortex.html
Basically what he says is Vortex was extremely fragile so they kept breaking. Sounds like the same amounts of all were made but Vortex was getting thrown out when he broke.

I bet the 0 bidder put in a crazy amount... Who ever had the 2nd highest bid is suspect. OP contact eBay so they can put in an investigation.

Yeah it's either shady -or- shadowy. Either someone created that account to influence the outcome (shady) or someone created an account to hide who they are so no one knows they won (shadowy). Would not be surprised by either outcome. Just imagine if a Vortex had been involved.
Even I might have bid then. heheh. That would have been nuts.
