Have you ever looked at how much some people are paying for joes? The assualt on Cobra Island just went for almost $100. Sometimes I tell myself in the end they are just toys.

How do you decide what your cut off point is?

I have pretty much limited myself to only things I want. Most times 1 open and 1 for card. Sometimes I end up with a few extra on card.

I just recently started getting into troop building but I don't plan to go over board with it.

Your thoughts on how you or your significant other controls your spending?

I troop build, but only limit myself to a couple (2-5 max) & only the ones I like. (Blueshirts are the excepotion I got a sh it load of them.)

I get why some people like mib but I never want to be that collector, because I'd rather have the toy than the box. Not putting anyone down who enjoys that.

To much: If family & friends have been lost in Toy avalanches & not been recovered then that too much.

If you can't buy groceries and the power gets cut off. I don't have room for vehicles, only jets. They hang on the ceiling.

I won't pay more than production costs of a figure. Profit is scalping.

I think it depends on the person. I can't see paying $60 for a Zarana...that's why I'm going to wait around until I find a great deal. Are you collecting MOC or Loose. That is something to consider.

I think a good thing to is to limit yourself to what you really like. Make a list and follow it. Stick with it.

I was up around $180 bidding on a built to rule grizzly tank when I finally gave up. I don't know how I got there, lol. I just knew it was time to stop bidding. Call me a quitter if you want, it just became too rich for my blood, lol!

I don't have an answer for this. Lately I catch myself thinking about paying $50 for an exclusive as reasonable and then I slap myself and remind myself its a tiny piece of plastic. I got into collecting these because I saw Dragon Storm Shadow in walmart for $4. For $4 I got to mess with a figure I never got to have as a child and it was badass. From that point on though forget it, I've just been buying stuff and most of the time I can't really justify what the hell I am buying.

Production cost? Where do you find Joes for $1?

The whole point of money is to spend it. If you want it, then get it. I did just that when I paid 70 for a Mass Device. Now if you find that your phone is cut off and you are buying hydrox instead of oreos, then it is time to cut back cause you are spending way too much friend!

If you can afford it then its not too much. If you buy your kids generic off brand toys and spend big bucks on toys for you then that is also bad. I do not feel there is a specific crazy price for the figures as long as you can justify it and it is worth it to you. I paid $350.00 for the two SDCC Slaughters, Destros, Cobra Commanders, and Zarana's and felt like I got a good deal.

I would call that a good deal as well.

It's funny because my girlfriend will be moving in soon and she only knows about the Flagg. I haven't figured out how to explain everything else to her yet....other than saying surprise! its for the future baby...

It's your collection at the end of the day. Do what makes "you" happy. Sometimes you do have to spend more to get what you want. Other times, maybe you find a good deal and It all evens out in the end.

It depends. I feel that some figures are under valued, and some are over valued. Its hard to gage. What I don't like is when I over pay for a figure I can't find just to have hasbro re-release it in another wave like I did with the poc ig. It was an amazing figure. I think I paid like 15 bucks for one cause I didn't pre-order, and couldn't find it anywhere. Then next thing I know there are litterly thousands more out there. With that said there are plenty of figures I feel are worth more than 15 bucks. If your not willing to pay the value of the figure you should be able to except not having that figue in your collection... that's why I don't have a cold slither zarana yet, just not willing to pay 65 or 70 bucks for a figure in black instead of pink.

I will not spend more than 8 dollars for a single figure.

That means I wont be buying a single Retaliation figure until they hit the discount stores.

As for exclusives. I like to try to find them loose if possible.
but 30 bucks is my limit.

If I were bidding on something on ebay, I take the shipping price into consideration too.

Just the other day, I was bidding on an A.W.E striker with Leatherneck. The price was 10 dollars for days, suddenly it went to 17 with 8 for shipping. 25 bucks is too much. So I let it go.

on the other hand I won an auction for a Night Spector with Grand Slam for 5.99 with 6.00 for shipping.
THAT I consider a good deal.

Ditto for Joe figs.

Big Jim figures on the other hand, specially the Italian exclusives I've spent up to 65 for one.

I only buy what I really want, and have left figures on the pegs simply because I didn't want them, or didn't want them enough to pay what they were selling for. I rarely get a current figure online, and would not pay more than 20 bucks for one no matter who it is... 15 is even pushing it a lot. I expect to pay about 10 for a typical figure online, but think paying that much in a store (like currently at Target) is really too much. I don't buy many vehicles these days, as I find them too expensive, period. I may pick some up in stores, but not online.

The most I payed for a single figure was a SDCC Zarana for $60.The second most I've spent for a single figure was a MOC 87 Cobra Commander that I got for $20.

It depends on the figure/circumstance. I'm not a completionist, and only get stuff to open. I army build, but not to the freakish extent some of the weirdos here do. 3-6 of each Cobra troop is enough for me. I usually have a set aside amount that I can spend on collecting. I try not to ever go over it.

Some examples of "how much is too much": I still haven't seen a Renegades SS...and won't pay more than $15 for him. Not about to pay $30+ for him, but easily paid that for the SDCC Slaughter (USA) MOC, which I missed out on and didn't buy online until well after $30 was the going price. There's still a chance I could find Ren. SS for $10 or so, but there was no chance I was going to get the Slaughter for less than $30, so there's my logic. When all the Ren. SS dry up at retail and the only option left is to get him from eBay for $30 or so, oh well. I have enough figures of that guy already anyway.

Another example- I put $350 aside for the JoeCon OG set...I am not attending and missed out on the Homegrown or Hometown or whatever Heroes deal email announcing when it was going up, and it sold out. Missed out on it by a few hours. I know I won't ever see it for that price again, and don't want to pay any more than that, so I guess I won't be owning a Joecon '12 OG set.

On a side note, as soon after I lost my chance to get one, I took a good look at the figures and realized they weren't all that great. There's some really nice customs pictured here that I am going to use as a basis to make my own set (of the OG, at least...not interested in the IG and Voltar). I have some of the parts already in my fodder box, and whatever else I need would surely cost well below $350.

How much is too much? I've been asking myself the same question over and over since I missed out on the non-attending Oktober Guard set... Selling off other stuff from my collection to bolster the paypal account for what I'm going to have to pay for it. I don't even want to think about it. I typically am fairly cheap when it comes to figures, but I've wanted the Oktober Guard since I was a kid and I can't say no...

You must not own any Joes then, since it probably cost .20 or lest per figure to make. :)

I won't pay more than production costs of a figure. Profit is scalping.

Me too, along with the so-far-unreleased Kwinn. If I could get the original OG team (along with Dragonsky), their 6 wheeled vehicle, Kwinn, the Soft Master, a Vietnam Era SS, SE and Stalker, and a civilian SE figure, I'd be done with all the Joe characters I really want. Maybe a Bongo the Balloon Bear, too.

If I have to stop and think, "Can I afford this?" then it's too much.

Most I've paid for a single figure has been around $500, though it's currently worth more than that. I have very few pieces that are worth less than I originally paid for them, so I look at them as more of an investment than just money spent.

I don't collect many vehicles anymore, no room to store/display anymore.
