Have you ever seen a movie and thought 'this movie has something very Joe at its core' or that it had an element that would have made a great Joe movie?
Sure you have. What are your top 3 and why?
1) Spartan by David Mamet with Val Kilmer: Agent Scott came across like a he could have been a Joe and the training at the beginning felt like it came right out of a Joe-book. Mamet went on to create The Unit, which felt like the closest real-world Joe show ever.
2) The Bourne Identity: Although he was just an assassin, it wouldn't take much of a re-write to place an amnesiac Snake-Eyes trying to evade Cobra assassins across Europe. Bourne didn't talk much anyway :)
3) Body of Lies by Ridley Scott with Leo DiCaprio: Imagine Chuckles from IDW's GI Joe: Cobra title being used by his handlers and stuck in the middle east.
Cheers,
Jason

Closest to a Joe movie:
Megaforce - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megaforce)
Nothing else fits all that makes Joe joe and not a military or spy adenture.

It doesn't have to fit all that makes a Joe movie, but maybe there's a hint of something or something substantial that you think would work in a Joe movie.

Get ready for every military-esque movie ever made to get mentioned.

Sorry. Just because a movie has military elements doesn't make it a Joe movie.

But don't you think there's something else besides being military-esqe about GI Joe?
As well, there are so many story arcs from the Marvel comics that don't exactly fit the GI Joe norm, like when Destro, Fred, and Firefly head up to Snake-Eyes' cabin to kill him. It would never be a stand-alone Joe movie, but it still worked as a story within the Joe-verse. Maybe you can include something along those lines.

Right. Which is why can't really just throw a military movie or show like the Unit or Tears of the Sun out there and say "Joe".
Joe has so much more that sets it apart.
The Hot Shots movies are totally GI Joe.

When I watch the Expendables, I often think this is what a Joe movie should be like, but scaled down on cursing and violence.

Team America
You know which movie really feels like GI Joe though? Street Fighter. I don't think any other movie gets closer.
Van Damme = Duke
Kylie Minogue = Scarlett
Raul Julia = Cobra Commander
And the array of vehicles, weapons, and bullet catchers. And everything is colorful and a little silly.

You know I really don't like that flick, but you might be on to something. I could picture it like that if they went that route.

Sagat was Destro, Ken/Ryu was Alpine & Bazooka, Blanka was Serpentor.

Team America
Honestly, all they would have had to do was vary up (or "village people up") the costumes and make it 2D animation and Team America would've seemed like a total G.I. Joe parody rather than a Thunderbirds parody.
