Cobra Rattler 2.0! (Ret. Ghost Hawk 2 repaint)

Hey guys,

So I ended up finding the Retaliation Ghost Hawk pretty early at my local TRU (5/16/12, to be exact) and reluctantly bought it and built it, but did not apply any labels- as I had a hunch it would come under the knife and brush...

Like so many others, I just couldn't handle the colors or cheap "ninja turtle-ish" look, but the ship is actually a great size and I do like the design of it. Like the Black Dragon VTOL, it feels very "Terminator: Hunter-Killer" or "Aliens Dropship"-esque to me. I thought about different paint schemes that could make it cooler, then it hit me- I'd make it into an updated Cobra Rattler! I started on this custom about 2 weeks ago but got sidetracked, so I decided to come back and finish it off last night.

The main/upper body has been painted with 2 coats of Krylon: Fusion "Patriotic Blue" spraypaint, which I then sanded and scuffed up to take most of the gloss off and give it a nice worn look. I followed that up with some light drybrushing to give it a subtle weathered, metal texture. The blaze-orange missiles absolutely HAD to go, they are painted with Krylon: Fusion matte black.

The lower body, chin gun and the engine turbines are the only things not painted, but some paint accents and minor drybrushing has been added where necessary.

I used only a few of the actual Ghost Hawk 2 decals, then added some custom Cobra Airforce decals from CobraStickers.com. I finished it off with selected labels from an unused 30th anniversary Skystriker sticker sheet.

looks cool in those colors...someone needs to come up with a better wing/engine design for this thing...I still can not get over the spring loaded missile launchers...the wings and the hollowed out rear tail sections..

Excellent!! I'm digging the customs paint jobs Tankers have done. Polishing up the turd of a paintjob Hasbro gave us. It really is a cool looking plane with the right colors. Hasbro screwed the pooch again on this one. They must have designers from the 90's still on the payroll. I hope they're looking at these customs and learning!

Great work! I swear I wonder how on earth is it that when a week after a vehicle is released, you can find a half dozen Tankers who do a knockout job on repainting, and yet Hasbro can't seem to create an in-house color scheme that doesn't look like a Fisher Price Adventure Heroes toy, or a last minute foul up at the Chinese factory where "Olive Green" and "Matte Black" somehow gets translated into "Lime Turtle" and "Old Shoe Brown"?

This needs to be a Hasbro repaint STAT! Especially since we haven't had a decent Cobra airship in a while. The Night Raven was adequate but the new Sky Striker needs a proper nemesis. The Wild Weasel and his Rattler was always a good foil to Ace and his Sky Striker.

Really sharp looking--I'm not sure I see this as a Rattler update but maybe as a cargo plane, although maybe it's not big enough for that. Anyway, it looks great.

The gun turret would be a good idea. That open cabin behind the cockpit would be a good place to have the figure sit to run it.
