View Full Version : 7 pack sets for this year?

It would be awesome if Hasbro does another pair of 7packs this year to keep the "tradition" going if you will. BBTS exclusives or not, the other ones were all internet/Ross available so whatever but this would rock if they offered these as the 7packs at the end of the year.....or with the lull in product now through the rest of the year, why not now or July/August/September?
My picks would be these:
Joe Renegades Set -
Hawk, Flint, Lady Jaye, Roadblock, Heavy Duty, Snow Job & Jinx
Cobra Renegades Set -
Destro, Baroness, Major Bludd, Mindbender, Tomax, Xamot & Bio-Viper
As far as alternates to these sets go,
Joes - Breaker, MP Troopers
Cobra - B.A.T., Arctic Cobra Trooper, Shadow Bio-Viper
We already have Duke (x2), Snake Eyes (x2), Scarlett, Ripcord, Tunnel Rat, Airtight & Law & Order for the Joes and Cobra Commander, Firefly, Storm Shadow (x2), Cobra Trooper & Ninja-Viper for Cobra.
Anyone else have thoughts or ideas for more 7 packs?

I would imagine at this point the Renegades 7 pack is the most likely, but don't count out a Retaliation movie 7 pack.
What would be awesome though would be an IDW pack. You could even sneak a Kwinn figure in there, as he has made an appearance in that run.

Night Creepers x2

Red Ninjas (battle axe vehicle version) x2 (yes use FSS dice figure and maybe give him different lower legs and knees like the ones from the Resolute SS comic pack)
I didnt choose Dice b/c we r gettn him eventually in the club FSS so that means Hasbro has no plan of releasing him.

2 sets, both comprised of the original 13, updated to fit the 30th anniversary. I wouldn't mind them reusing the PoC SE with different gear. For the 14th figure throw in Kwinn.

The main difficulty I see with 7 packs this year is that from my understanding a lot of the 7-pack "new" tooling in the past was stuff that was created for the retail line but then not released, and I'm fairly sure that the Dreadnok/Renegades stuff was in large part the last bits of "unseen" tooling. But who knows?
Personally I'd be thrilled if Hasbro did a run of "Troop Builder Packs" with existing tools: Cobra Troopers (+ Officers) - Preferably with varied skin tones, Cobra Vipers (+ Gold Faceplate "Officers"), Steel Brigade (+ Gold Helmet "Officers"), etc...
But I doubt that'll happen anytime soon.

That one up on ebay for $200 is just some overly hopeful individual.
You'll see one pop up on there auction-style, and they usually only go for $60-$70.
Still a bit pricey, but for 7 cool figures, it isn't so bad.

I vote for one 7-pack for Oktober Guard e one 7-Pack for Battle Force 2000 (now 2020 maybe).
Oh wait the gi-joe "fun-publications-I-want-easy-money-from-die-hard-collectors" club already "launched" the Oktober Guard ... now I just have to pay US$ 380,00 for these figures.
Oh wait even if I am a faithful member for the last 7 years I canīt get them because they make t0o feel of them out of fear of not selling absolute everything ... nahhh what I complaining about ... I can get them on ebay for around U$ 600,00 now.
Really our GI-Joe collectorīs club do wonders for us!
Well if Oktober Guard is out of the table... I think somenthing like 1990 greatest hits:
Ambush
Bullhorn
Freefall
Pathfinder
Rampart
Salvo
Stretcher
for Cobra
Laser Viper
Metal Head
SAW Viper
Undertow
Rock Viper (new helmet)
Range Viper (dark blue)
Night Creeper (new arms)

That always happens, that's why they offered the discounted bundle pack to get the Resolute sets with the Dreadnok/Marauders sets to help clear out the old inventory. I'm sure they would just do the same thing again.

and idk know maybe a...
motor viper/ice viper/desert scorpion/gyro viper/targat/toxo viper/crystal ball pack
or how about a redux of the original 13 either in the mold of poc wv 3 snake eyes or the zap/dg duke. i'd most want these in new tooling more resembling their original molds (and if we are allowing for new non pea sized head molds...

Cobra-La Royal Guard (x2)
Renegades would tank? That amazon 4 pack sold like gangbusters. Why do you think it would tank?
I think they "sold out" because they were listed in short bursts. There are plenty to be had now. But it was a nice set. That Storm Shadow almost made me set up a Renegades display. :)
But I do think it would tank because current Renegades stuff is being clearanced, the show was only popular with a certain segment of the Joe population and the last time Hasbro did a toon-specific set (Resolute), they gathered dust for two years before heading off to discount stores. I want you guys to get your needed Renegades figures, but I suspect most collectors would be reluctant to spend that amount of dough on such sets, especially when they would include inevitable repaints.
Now in the same breath, I says this cartoon set would do better:
1987 Animated Movie Theme
Rawhides vs. Cobra-La
Rawhides:
Falcon - Sunbow colors
Jinx - SDCC figure plus Sunbow styled unmasked head, large dragon symbol on chest
Big Lob - Roadblock body, new head

Cobra-La Royal Guard (x2)
I say that because while not everyone likes Cobra-La, there is enough cross appeal with the inclusion of ARAH-era figures. (Also, this is like my DREAM set!) But, just like the Marauders/Dreadnoks pack, if these aren't faithful enough to the originals, then I see them being less successful.
Honestly, none of these sets seem to do very well, and I'm surprised they continue to make them. Part of the problem, I think, is the execution. But still.

Yeah, I liked Renegades just fine, but I really don't have any desire to have more figures from the show. If anything I'd like to have a Roadblock just to finish off the main team, but even then, I'm not super excited about it. The Resolute seven packs were the only ones I passed on so far, because I just didn't really have a need for any of them.

whats wrong with MASK being part of GI JOE? That brand needs some help being reborn and putting them in with GI JOE especially 3 3/4 figures POC level of quality would be wicked...and they already made MAtt TRakker in the 25th anni line..so its precedent is set :)

I think M.A.S.K. will do better as a line by itself.. Plus I thought that comic had a licensing rights name that they used as a certain umbrella for all lines forgot what the name was. Well I Woudl rather have Mask figures then more Renegades figures taking up those same slots you mention for the unmade Joes. I faced the music long ago Hasbro is either 1) goign to draw out making the rest of thso efigures at 1 figure a year or 2) leave it up to the club (IF they ever get the damn FSS going in the next 5 years) either way, those Joes will never get made much less my MAsk figures...Retaliaiton's stain will mar the future for some time now..

I am pretty certain it was entioned that whole booklet was a rouse/gimick/joke....a "what if" cocnept never intded to being created. Kind alike "remember all of these brands! yup thier all Hasbro!"...more likley they will all be made into live action mives..well thatw as before Battleship sunk the idea...so I dont think well be seeing Monopoly or Connect 4 action figures anytime soon...

That's the problem Hasbro has great lines they can do things with because they bought the companies that produced them. Just like they could redo Visionaries and while I hate zombies could put zombies in that line and would make a killing with the zombie/magic aspect of a rebooted line..

I really wanted an Oktober Guard set but that dream is gone thanks to that overpriced crap from the club! Renegades is my next choice followed by Star Brigade and Eco Warriors! A really out of the box set would be SGT Savage! Or Joe scale Sigma 6! How bout the rest of M.A.S.K. or joe scale COPS!
i want joe scale COPS too, but im talking about the fox show COPS

SS (painted in the 2000 2 pack color)
Night Creepers x2
Night Creeper Leader
Red Ninjas (battle axe vehicle version) x2 (yes use FSS dice figure and maybe give him different lower legs and knees like the ones from the Resolute SS comic pack)
I didnt choose Dice b/c we r gettn him eventually in the club FSS so that means Hasbro has no plan of releasing him.
No more ninjas!!!

At this point, I'd rather have some more army builders or some new re-imagining. Outside of sub-groups that have not been made or completed (Tiger Force or Night Force).
Would love an arctic Joe set with Stalker, Breaker, Scarlett, Duke, Iceberg, Kwinn and any of the other arctic Joes that haven't been done.
Would also love a Jungle themed Cobra infantry and Viper set...to match the Jungle Viper.
A sea-based set would also be cool...maybe then we can get a Keel-Haul and a Wet-Suit with rolled up sleeves.
It would be cool to have a SEAL set with Torpedo, Wet-Suit, and the others...maybe in land gear but have them come with flippers and breathers.
Finally, I'd take a Viper 7-pack with a gold faced Viper officer and Mercer. That would be cool.

Here are the overall totals of each pack you can put in your cart over on BBTS, if you add up the numbers across the singles and bundles. The quantities on last year's sets make it look like something of a sales disaster, especially when I believe that BBTS started out with 5,000 of each set. They appear to have only sold about 300 Marauders and 1,000 Dreadnoks.
4684 - BBTS Exclusive GI Joe 7-Packs - Slaughter's Marauders
3927 - BBTS Exclusive GI Joe 7-Packs - Dreadnoks
196 - GI Joe Resolute - GI Joe Boxed Set - BBTS Shared Exclusive
213 - GI Joe Resolute - Cobra Boxed Set - BBTS Shared Exclusive
The Resolutes were a shared exclusive, so BBTS never had the full quantity of those. The Marauders sales show how it was absolute insanity to make Sgt. Slaughter a limited exclusive and then expect his Marauders team to sell in greater numbers without the man himself being available at the same time. The Marauders should have been the Joe Con exclusive since the attendees would have helped it sell out in the usual Joe Con quantity, and only then it might have been produced in less numbers than Slaughter himself. Not to mention all of those diehards would have already had Slaughter.
Even the sales of the Dreadnok set makes it questionable just how viable it is for BBTS to market an exclusive all by themselves. They don't seem to have the customer base to move a big enough quantity.
This seems to be a repeat of when they got the "2010 Exclusive Star Wars Plourr Ilo and Dllr Nep Comic Two-Pack" which was an exclusive that Walmart dropped at the last minute and BBTS picked up. They now have 953 left for $2.13 each. If I recall they had 1,000s more at some point before the big price drop at more like $18 a pop.

I would have bought the Noks from BBTS if the shipping wasn't almost as much as the set itself. I'm kinda happy that this blew up in their faces. Ignoring/ pissing on the international market really shot them in the foot.
Good job dorkside toys managed to score a load of sets from them and sell them cheaper, and with a quarter of the shipping costs.

I say they should just cancel the FSS, since it has now been a year since it was announced and they are STILL not available. Counting the mystery figure, thats 13.. throw in one more character...KWINN and thats 14. There's enough figures for the two 7 packs.

Trying to make the rest of the Renegades characters out of existing parts is a recipe for mediocrity.
I want a New Recruits pack, with original characters built out of existing parts. Let the designers be creative without being constained by pre-established appearances.
Basically, I want the same mentality that gave us Shadow Tracker.

Thats a good idea, dumP the FSS figs to a 7 pack and let the club offer something else 5 years from now whenever they first get the store working, the credit card secured(give them 1-2 years to hacker proof it) then plan for a year or two what new figs to offer in a few years time for the finalized and fully tested FSS system.

Hasbro doesn't own the FSS figures, the Club does. Hasbro would have to pay the club to sell the Club figures.
I really, REALLY doubt that's going to happen.

Much of the problem lies in the execution. Even the figures that were closest to their ARAH counterparts were lacking. Simply put, the designers took far too many liberties. Marauders should have been done in the traditional colors and schemes, Spirit should have been the 25th mold, and Falcon should have been replaced by Mutt or Footloose. The Renegades simply should have been done better, especially Red Dog. A lot of guys love the PoC and modern takes on characters, but even more collectors are still trying to fill the holes in the times they started with the 25th.
That's why those sets are sitting.

The 7-packs for the last three years have been great but they are not what Hasbro had planned. They were made up of figures that were originally planned for single card release that were canceled due to movie dates and/or other reasons.
The original ideas for the 7-packs were to make themed army builders using existing tooling to keep cost down, like the arctic and desert packs.
I would like to see them continue with these types of 7-packs.
I would like to see is a Cobra Jungle pack with all the following figures painted in jungle camo patterns to match the Jungle BAT from POC

Trooper (Resolute)

I hope not. This is the only reason I joined the Club.
But I seriously doubt that we'll see anything this year until the movie figures start coming out again. I can't imagine a huge beaurocracy like Hasbro has the mobility to spin something out in 9 months.

This is what I want as well

They need to get something out to tide us over until Retaliation hits again in March (and even then I won't be picking up much unless it's been clearanced). I vote for the Oktober Guard and a Special Missions Joe team set. OG is out of my reach as a con' set, but I'd REALLY love to have it. A Special Missions set would be based on the Marvel GI Joe SM comic and feature some prominent characters from that short-lived series. Or reissue the Special Mission Brazil set.
OR, it would be nice to get an updated 30th original 13 set plus Shooter. I mean, most of these parts are already available. Come on Hasbro - you owe us.
(edit - someone already called out my last idea, but I heartily endorse it.)

I thought that they too were shared exclusives, RobotKingdom has them.
But you are right, doing the Marauders set was insanity with Sarge being an exclusive, short run figure. I own Sarge, he set me back 65, admittedly not as much considering Joes, when available, are 18 here and Sarge hits about 100 these days, but I payed over three times the normal price, why would I open him? By extension, why would I open the Marauders set? Yeah, I need LowLight, and that guy is freaking expensive now if you want the superior PoC version(Over 40 for Not-Americans? Jeezes... he's not even an exclusive.), but the rest of the set I either have, or like you said, they need Sarge to 'feel right'. I only picked it up because I thought it'd look nice displayed with my sealed Sarge.
Keep in mind, the Dreadnoks pack isn't much better;
Buzzer? Well there's 18 minimum.
Monkey Wrench? What's he go for these days, around 30 open? 55 with TunnelRat? And he's pathetic. Although I believe Americans will sell them far cheaper to other Americans, like Low Light.
Zarana? Well there's 40, unless you're happy with the SpyTroops one like I am.(Own Pink SDCC, but not opening)
While 100 for one figure, the current going rate for Sarge, is expensive, the total cost of the Dreadnoks is quite considerable too.

If we see 7 packs this year, it would probably be Renegades. I don't see movie related, as the 7 packs generally lean toward the collectors.
If we don't see Renegades, I think they could do a set in the vein of Pursuit of Cobra...meaning environmentally specific Joes and Cobras. For example:
Joe set:
Muskrat (jungle)
Spearhead & Max (Desert)
Iceberg or Blizzard (Arctic)
Any unreleased Night Force Figure (City Strike)
Any unreleased Pilot (Air)
Depthcharge (Sea)
Payload or Countdown (Space)
Cobra:
Jungle Viper (30th Viper Repaint) (Jungle)
Desert Scorpion (Desert)
Ice Viper (Arctic)
Saw Viper (City Strike)
T.A.R.G.A.T. (Air)
Undertow or Hydro Viper (Sea)
Astro Viper (Space)

I don't care what they make just give more 7 packs:)
5000 of each set sounds low, I'm guessing it's closer to 8-10.
I think it's way too early to say it's been a sales disaster they've only been out for 6 months, lets see how many are left in year.
If they did buy 10,00 and it takes 2yrs to sell through then I'd say that it has been successful exclusive.
Also you can't account for how many sets BBTS sold to other retailers. When you see them for sale at toywiz, pastgeneration, or guys like me, we've all gotten them from BBTS.
It's fair to criticize the character selection, but it's unlikely BBTS had much imput in the process. Hasbro makes the exclusives and then solicits them to individual retailers. Personally, I think they should be applauded for stepping up to the plate and making them happen.

In Hasbro's wholesale agreement, IIRC, 5000 units is the least amount for a shared exclusive and you have to buy 20,000 or 25,000 (can't remember which) before you get a solely exclusive Hasbro toy.
BBTS is the best thing to happen for many toy collectors, especially those of us in the sticks who get a chance to buy sets like this that otherwise we would never see. Even if some end up at Ross (which I doubt) I won't feel cheated for paying BBTS's asking price for them. There's too many cheapskates here who want everything at clearance prices. Hasbro's "mainline" retail practices for GI Joe right may be questionable, but compare the cost of the 7 packs to something like an SDCC exclusive and it's not bad at all.

I guess they could release a missing Viper set-put in the defunct wave 5 Crimson Guard and Night Viper along with some of the other figures that they could make with some parts and added gear.
Overall though I don't think we are going to get anything this year. I think Hasbro expected the year to be about Retaliation and about movie sales. Maybe next year we'll get some 7 pack stuff.

well why not not make skystriker figure? its just wild weasel with a different head. but the cobra pack, thats kind of a weird mix. crystal ball and raptor would be musts! you need more than just vipers.

MORE SS and SE, I know, but...
I REALLY want a Vietnam pack with SE, SS, Stalker, Dickie, Wade, and what's his name. Throw in a col. hawk in dress greens to round out the set.
Also, would LOVE an updated Arashikage/ninja force pack, including faceless master, professor onihashi, zartan, etc. An updated Ninja Force SE done well without battle attack and drooping shoulders could be a gem...

OR, it would be nice to get an updated 30th original 13 set plus Shooter. I mean, most of these parts are already available. Come on Hasbro - you owe us.
Yes, WITH Shooter!

Proof positive that it's impossible for Hasbro (or any toy company) to please everybody. I would buy very little, if any of these ARAH rehashes that have been suggested the last few pages. In fact, I think the OP's suggestion was the best one so far.

Agreed. There are lots of ARAH completists here who lust after figures that barely a handful of people even know exist. The best part of POC was the new direction they went in creating characters like Shadow Tracker, and like it or not, (and I DO like it) Renegades is current canon for many and unlike the movie, at least has SOME presence right now. All those weird teams and day-glo monstrosities from the 90's need to stay there. They didn't sell then and sure as hell wouldn't now. For as much as the past is important, not everything in ARAH's past deserves to be remade and it's time to let the newest incarnation of a kids line have some legs.
Renegades 7-packs would sell much easier to kids and parents and if 30th proved anything, it's that people OTHER than collectors took a small interest in the line. Anything that pegwarmed did so only because it was double wave packed. I'd love to see the Renegades line expanded, figures, vehicles and the whole bit.

You just need to respect what other people prefers and in fact you are contradicting yourself at some point. Some people like to see some figures remade others prefer new ones but the funny part is that in POC you have ARAH based figures like Low Light for example. And in the Renegades you have Airtight and Law & order.
So as you see we are talking about the same. And the list I gave you can find several success figures like Night Viper which we will have eventually Undertow or TARGAT, Freefall and Fast Draw.
Off course I don't want them to be a copy of the ARAH ones like the 25th mostly was but use the name and spirit in a more modern look. Low Light, Airtight and Snake Eyes are good examples of this. Yes I said SE which is inspired on the commando version and is probably one of the best figures made.

What's important is updated figures of caracters not previously done and NO Duke, SE, SS or CC, i'm sick of them!
Problem is that those annoying joeclub have allready decided to release some high wanted grrrr
If we do go for repaints i want:
Tiger Force (outback, lifeline, tunnelrat, roadblock, , dusty, recondo and hit-and-run)
and
Python Patrol (viper(30th), range viper, rock viper, cobra trooper (30th), Lamprey, croc master and techno-viper)

I think that is true, truth be told I think the majority of us would buy a set that looks good and has some effort placed into it. Whether it is ARAH update, brand new characters, etc. POC was a great line because finally Hasbro remembered what GI Joe was about-characters, weapon specific to the characters, and interesting ideas that spark imaginations.
After discovering what was a hit...they...of course decided to stop doing it.

Why? I never said anyone was not entitled to his own preference, just that I disagreed with the majority of those presented in this thread and offered up some supporting reasoning.
and in fact you are contradicting yourself at some point.
As a matter of fact, no, I am not. I commented on the creative aspect of POC's new characters as a positive attribute. POC was also successful because it re-presented familiar characters in very high quality figures instead of the the standard crappy resculpts and repaints that Hasbro had been coasting on since the late 80's.
25th was the necessary step of taking the original o-ring designs and re-making them in ME style and reigniting many dormant Joe collectors, but it was POC and 30th that reestablished GI Joe as THE preeminent action figure line in terms of quality.
Going backwards and focusing on obscure and mostly irrelevant characters may make a couple dozen hardcore collector happy, but a couple dozen collectors aren't going to buy 25,000 7 packs. I'd actually like to see the line gain ground outside of collectors and Renegades is pretty much the ONLY currently viable avenue for that. And yes, I'd like those figures for myself.

You misunderstood my point completely, and no, we are not talking about the same things.

cobra: crystal ball, raptor, night creeper leader, saw viper, metal head, targat, annihilator
