The solution is just do not buy it from them.I think that the price is what it is because the market demands it.
Doesn't seem like a bad deal to me. I don't have any DG's around me though.

I know. You're right. I had no intention of buying it. But I saw it and had to allow myself to be appalled.

Don't get me wrong. I get pissed when I see stuff that is OUTRAGEOUS in price. I simply laugh and move on. You have to remember that the guys in foriegn countries pay a lot more than we do because they cannot get them at all.

Yep. I'm feeling like one of them due to my need for the pushed back waves of Retaliation figures.

no DG around here.
i bought 2 scalped DG officers the other day. $20 each after shipping. should be here soon.
how long should i wait for a friendly tanker to hook me up before i take matters into my own hands and pay a mark up?
i remember when i figured the renegades storm shadow was going to be hard to get and paid for 2 at $14 each plus shipping on ebay. when i got back from vacation a month later they were around $40 a piece.

This reminds me of a thread (http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-joe-toys-modern-general-discussion/239085-got-rid-club-dial-tone-footloose-today.html) where a fellow tanker got lambasted for trading out a club Dial Tone and Footloose for a handful of vintage figures.
Which is it kids? Scalp or trade for what you bought it for?
Make up your minds fools!

but are we all not scalpers? or the better question is what is or defines a scalper?
lots of us bought sky strykers for 10 bucks I bet no one would sell it a show or con for less than 20? is that not scalping?
exclusives like dialtone and alpine are sold for hundreds and they are not worth it I dont care how rare they are they are not worth it. is that a joe scalper?
what about a 25th vamp MIB that is sold for 40 dollars? is that not a scalper?
every comicshop and toy guy that buy at retail and sell at a mark up is a scalper. RIGHT?
I define a scalper as one that prevents ME! from getting what I WANT at the price I WANT!

I was going to say the same thing... that pricing is actually fairly reasonable given what they have been going for.
I understand the frustration, but this is really DG's fault. They need to distribute these better... they are creating the extra demand by not stocking anywhere near enough of them.
Of course, if Hasbro would let Kokomo and BBTS order them, that situation wouldn't be anywhere near as bad either.

I think these figures were not mass produced and we won't see many more of them. Which means $15.00 will be damn cheap. Of course that's just my opinion and we all know what that's worth.

I was looking at the prices and thinking hmm if they dont kill us on post its not actually that bad!!
Just out of interest how much are they retailing at on average?
Any Joes that Make it here to a speciality toy shop usually retail at around £10 which probbably equates to about $15

Another one of these threads? When are you people going to learn that the "scalper" can only do what he/she does because people are paying the price! Be mad at the buyers who are driving up the price on your sought after figure. Don't be mad because someone is trying to make money. Message all the people who are bidding and call them scalpers because it is they who are driving up the price, not the guy standing on the corner/opening a store on EBAY with product.
And when you message your fellow JOE fans who are driving up the price and enabling these 'scalpers' make sure you show your disgust at how much money they have to burn on the hobby we all chosen to love.
Then go ahead and email the guys over at BBTS, SMALLJOES, and Kokomo Toys to let them know your disgust at their scalping practices because they too sell figures for above retail costs, just like the individuals doing it on Ebay.

No, we haven't been Capitalist in the United States since the industrial revolution. We now have a mixed economy in the US and we see how well that is working out for us. :)
The high prices has everything to do with supply and demand.

How do u know that? How do u know other stores will have them? Do u know how many were produced? These could have had only a small amount produced for only Dollar General. These weren't even offered to online retailers.

Ya I don't think these are showing up anywhere else just at DG. It's going on 6 weeks and no other stores have them and the only other store really would be Family Dollar and Ocean State Job Lot (and that would be a long shot...)

There's a HUGE difference between a retailer that purchases full cases and has to make up for the losses they must take on the unpopular figures and a "scalper" that raids Target and Walmart every morning to cherry pick all the hard to find figures.
I think people are far to quick to cry "scalper", but there is just no way that BBTS/Kokomo/SmallJoes would qualify.
They would be instantly out of business if they offered all the hot figures at the same price as the lame ones... because Mom and Pop aren't coming through and picking up the leftovers at regular price.
Give me a break.

If you put it in the same context as my argument then yes they are aaaaaaaaaaaaaand all the people who cry about scalper this and cherry picker that, need to be consistent in their bitching is all I was saying. I order from BBTS a shit ton. Their business practices obviously don't offend me. I am all for people making money and I am all for the market setting the price.

Plus, stores don't buy figures at retail cost, and then sell them at a higher price because they are no longer on the shelves at retail.
Stores buy product at wholesale (not removing it from store shelves), and then sell it at a price that nets them a profit which is used to pay for overhead. People can choose to buy it at store A or store B depending on their personal weighing of price vs. convenience.
Scalpers remove that option by creating a monopoly.
I can't believe that there are so many people (not just here) who can't grasp the difference between a retailer and a scalper.

If you always have a retailer/etailer to go to who also sells figures at above retail cost, then this contradicts your argument. Remember you can also buy from BBTS, Kokomo, and Smalljoes. There is no monopoly even in this instance. How is BBTS marking their product up to cover their costs any different from your 'scalper' trying to recoup time/gas/effort??? It's not. But all that aside, I can't believe how many people just can't come to terms with the fact that it's the consumer that enables to scalper. If you don't like the price your option as a consumer is simply not to buy the product. I can't believe there are so many here that can't grasp that fundamental law of economics.

That's just the thing Headman. The scalper is more often than not alluded to as the outlet of collector hate, when it is the very same collectors who enable their behavior.
Your statement is 100% true though. I feel the exact same way. But if it's a figure that I simply can't go without, then I go Ebay. So yeah call me an enabler. :)

I mostly shop online and have never encountered this situation, but if I randomly found 5 Renegades Storm Shadows on a peg at Target, I think I would buy them all and sell four of them on eBay.
Does that make me immoral? Lacking in personal ethics?
I'm not sure.

Another one of these silly threads.
I love how small time retailers, mom and pop shops and e-tailers get thrown in the same boat with the likes of Wal-Mart or even Dollar General.
These mega retailers do not rely on those Joe figures to stay in business. Wal-Mart could dump their entire toy department and not even break a sweat.
There's a reason why these types of stores sell thousands upon thousands of different items. It kills competition. Plus, they don't care if the figure you want isn't there.
I don't hear anyone here saying that Wal-Mart should be done away with b/c of all the businesses they've put out.
