I wonder if he was a return or if he's been in hiding the last 13 years?

They probably found it under the gondola where some collector stashed it.

It has become a thing in the collecting community for thieves to print fake barcodes on sticker paper and attach those over the barcodes of older action figures and return them to the store.
A while ago someone posted a pic of a Walmart with the Star Wars section full of old Power of the Force 2 green card action figures with fake barcode stickers on them.
Thus far stores don't seem to care that this is done. I think eventually they won't accept returns for "collectible" items, brands such as Star Wars, Transformers, GIJOE, Marvel, Lego, etc. - all sales will be final.

Makes me think of that guy who went down a few weeks ago for scamming a Target out of thousands of dollars worth of Legos with fake barcodes.

Yup, if that Maul is due to a barcode scam he'll probably get arrested if caught.
OP needs to go back and check the barcode. Is it a sticker?

I worked at K Mart as a kid and wouldn't be surprised if it was just sitting in their overstock room all this time. I remember there being some pretty obscure, and old stuff in our overstock room back then.

This is my dream... IMO they should also increase the penalty for barcode swapping to absolute death.

Bar code swapping ... news to me.

I saw a few like this at Walmart and Target. They were using the sticker barcode that was on the Vintage Phantom Menace wave. Sneaky bastards

What do you mean, isn't that part of the Vintage Collection? Just kidding.
If somebody did return this, what a shame. It's amazing how low some people stoop.
Maybe it was under some shelf or racks for years and was somehow just found. I remember back in the 90s when I collected comics, at the local newsstand, I found a Batman comic from 8 years earlier that somehow fell behind the racks and was never noticed. It wasn't a comic worth anything but it was cool nonetheless and the store sold it to me for cover price which was like 50 cents back then.
Sooooooo
If you buy it
and sell it for $10
Does that make you a scalper??
