View Full Version : Digging the Ghost Hawk II

So I picked up Ghost Hawk II yesterday.

I was really surprised, for 20 bucks it's quite big.

Nearly 2.5 times the length of the AWE.

Only about 4 inches shorter than the Sky Striker.

Now the down side, the decals are messy and the neon orange missiles are pretty bla!

The decals take some work, but I think they look good when you get them on. The orange missiles are unforgivable... but it does make it match the Havoc.

I gave up on most of the decals, but I dig the vehicle non the less. It's fun to play with and is pretty durable...my 3 year old son loves playing with the thing and it's taken a bit of a beating. The top wings pop off really easily but they go back on just as easily.

Agreed, I was really surprised with the size of the GHII. I do wish it held more than one figure though, it would make a great transport type vehicle. And yes, the orange missiles really detract from it.

Technically doesn't it hold 2? 1 in the front and one in the trunk?

I put mine together last night, and am in complete agreement on the decals. It is another product where the effort is greatly appreciated, but the execution isn't perfect. My other complaint is that it fell apart so many times while i was putting the decals on, I almost threw it across the room. The thrusters and top wing fall off with very little effort. Otherwuse, the size and detailing are awesome, it definitely makes me with they had put a similar scale into the ROC Dragonhawk, that could have been a fantastic new helicopter if it didn't seem so tiny.

what's up with the figure that should be offered from McDonald's in one of their Happy Meals?

I was under the impression that it was the same size of the Black Dragon VTOL. But its big, pleanty big! If CobraStickers.com makes a set of decals for this thing it would really bring it to life.

I think you can fit two in the "trunk". It really needs a bar seat back there. I'm working on customizing one to seat two in the front. It will be tight, though. I also dropped those stupid mega-pod racing engines on the wings and trying to make the build in rocket launcers into engines. I wish they had made it look like those images we have seen online with the engines on the wings ala the Howler.

The Ghost Hawk II was a very pleasant surprise for me, and has become one of my favorite vehicles. The missiles are the only thing ultra stupid about the Ghost Hawk II, I left them all back in the box.

The way he's placed in the rear, he feels more like a prisoner ready to be executed in mid-air drop. =P
Nah, not counting the pilot, he is referring to the back being only able to carry one person. This vehicle would've been perfect if there was more room in the back for at least 2-4 figures through.

The green and orange paint scheme actually looks really good with the carded Duke and Joe troopers.

I was totally bummed out, got two left engines, didn't notice till I broke one of the pegs off trying to put it together. Am I the only one that got two left engines? Still haven't found a replacement yet, all sold out up here.

I bought 1 for my 8 year old son then after seeing how much both my boys loved the GHII I bought one for my 5 year old. I picked up a third one to do a custom paint job on it. I love the Ghost Hawk II, I look past the orange missles(I can paint them). For the price its big and delivers the most bang for the buck for my boys. 2 thumbs up here for the GHII.

Oh god that's gonna be tough to get replacement parts for... at least for 9 months.

And my wings/body came apart so easily, I ended up just gluing them together. Still a great vehicle... esp for 19.99.

thats what I'll probably do as well, but I'm going to give it a couple weeks first.

Agreed on all points I was surprised they could even fit this into that small box.

I TRIED applying the stickers but ended up ripping some on accident and said F it, I'll just wait for Justin crom cobrastickers to come up with something. The printer that Hasbro uses at the factory is offset and due to that the stickers are misaligned. I don't think yellow looks that good on this anyways so the stickers are no loss to me.

I use my Ghost HAWK II as a SAR craft. Would be better if the strong was longer.

Yeah, needs a little more love. Maybe we'll get a slightly improved version in a future, more 'adult' Joe line with landing gear and more muted colours.

I abandoned applying the stickers (certainly all the black panels) after multiple disasters and think it looks better without them. And yes, I had to glue the top central wing piece on too, but for all those snags I like it a lot. It's basically a lightly armed scout plane with loads of hi-tech gear in the back in my world.

I am digging the GH2 as well. It is wicked pissah IMO. My only complaint is that it needs a gun or something, because once it is out of missiles it is pretty much screwed.

Love the design, hate the decals! I found a bonus from the crappy figure as well. If you fix the hole in the neck, it makes for a badass headswap on a steel brigade trooper. It's the same mold as the Delta only without the helmet being removable.

The orange missles are awful plus they're hallow. The hallow shell rear tail is also shitty. It also needed proper landing gear.

Man, I saw two today and passed, as I'm trying to stick to a budget and I'd already snagged the Joe Trooper. Now I'm beginning to think maybe I should've snagged it after all...

I've been passing them up left and right. Maybe I will pull the trigger if I see one now.

I just said yesterday in another post how frustrating it is that Hasbro comes so close to making a great vehicle but always seems to ruin it somehow. Usually buy cutting corners.

For instance this with no landing gear and those orange missiles and crappy stickers, the POC hiss tank with its treads that don’t work properly and the body that always pops up on its own, and the ROC Dragon Hawk being way too small, etc…...

In my opinion all of those could have been really great iconic Joe vehicles but all fall short in one way or another. Seems to be the Hasbro way.

Personally think it feels a little cheap, the decals were a aserious disappointment (seriously, Hasbro, just go with tampos if you can't make better quality, symmetrical decal sheets), and the Duke figure is beneath contempt. But it looks really cool on display!

I dislike the orange because I have worked in weapons research and development my entire life. Orange is for target drones or test missiles, not fielded weapons!

I went back to Target today and they'd cleared-out their vehicles - aside from a single Ghost Hawk II, so I decided to grab it.

First impressions: for starters, it's a LOT larger than I expected. I'm amazed it fit into that box. And second, despite the missiles being TEH KIDDIE and the Duke figure being a bit rubbish, it's really a lot of fun. Although the plastic may be slightly cheaper and it feels a bit hollow, it's very sturdy and a fair size, especially for $20.

That's weird, mine will come apart if I pull at it but the rest of the it's totally solid - to the point where I think I'd actually damage it if I tried to remove the central wing mount.

So can you remove the giant oversized engines easily or will it require a scapel and minor surgery? I want to get one and replace them with the smaller engines from the skyhawk.

Mine is solid. I've been wheeeawing it around by its tail, the body and even the wings and it's remained completely intact.

The wings are assembled from five parts - two wing tips, which connect to the two engines, which then slot into a central assembly that clips into the main body. I'm not sure how you'd go about replacing the engines, unless they have the same joint/connector (which is doubtful) but if it's something you're considering tackling then I'm sure you have the skills to do it.

Nope no sooner did I read this thread and go out to get the one I passed up yesterday I found two left engines. It goes back to Target in the morning. I'd wait on Hasbro but the whole "We will send you something of equal value" line would get me a friggin wolfhound or something rubbish from ROC.

This is the one vehicle I was looking forward to the most. I'm thinking of putting some vintage Joe stickers on it, to give it more of a vintage feel though.
