D.C. has outed original Green Lantern Alan Scott (earth-2) thus erasing his superhero son Obsidian, also openly gay, from existence.

TRIVIA QUESTION. everybody knows silver age G.L. Hal Jordan's ring was powerless against yellow, what was the original G.L's weakness ?

Being gay doesn't mean you can't father a child.

I swear you know what....I just don't care.

I mean does anyone REALLY care about the sexuality of a fictional character? So much so that its a media event?

I mean ok maybe it was a media event when they outed Northstar, or when Ellen came out....but seriously this is really an event still?

hell no i don't care, as in one way or another, but when i heard it the first time that it was G.L. my first question was "which one" my first guess was Guy Gardner. but it was a media event, i heard it all afternoon on news stations. i would not be suprised if trash news ie E.T., TMZ pick it up before to long.
was it a media event when Northstar came out? i guess i was a little less plugged in back then.
this has been done before. it is not ground breaking, Starman, Apollo, Dr. Midniter(Warren Ellis of Resolute fame to joe fan's) Rawhide Kid. and that's just D.C.
somebody at D.C. let this out as a press release so they thought it was an event.
i will admit i do have a hidden agenda. tired of one hundred posts of retaliation sucks. trying to get a new ball rolling.

I would think being outed as a super hero would be a bigger deal.

It really is a non issue. I am more concerned with no Jade or Obsidian.

lame.......make Hal gay.....making a hero less and less people care about gay to make him "relevant" is cheap.

Re-writing straight heroes as gay is also cheap in my mind. Make a new hero...make people care about him/her and then reveal that they are gay/lesbian down the road after people like them. That's storytelling. That is if you want it to be 'shocking".

Making batwoman lesbian was well done as she is a new character, and it makes sense to not change her sexuality half way through the story...Obsidian being gay--it fit in the story of the character.
Some of this stuff just feels so forced to bring media attention. IMO

They're treating this rebooted version of Alan Scott as a new character. Kinda like how they did with Batwoman, who is also not a "new" character; either as Batwoman or Katherine Kane.

I'm looking forward to the time when being gay or straight is simply a character element and not a function of the storytelling at all; "shocking" or otherwise.

Sigh....who gives a shit?

EDIT: That post ^^^ should be read as: I don't give a shit if someone is gay or not. I hate that the media has to make a f'n spectacle/circus out of everything.

i saw this report a week or two ago; that a major, male character in the DCU would be outed.

i'm more surprised that alan scott GL is a major character than i am that he's gay.

Northstar coming out was a media event because that was the first acknowledged gay hero in comics.

Now? It shouldn't matter or be a big deal.

This was planned at DC, but they weren't going to make a big deal out of it (the course they should have taken) until they felt they had to one-up Marvel who got headlines with the Northstar marriage.

Well on the Batwoman thing--there really wasn't a post-crisis Batwoman so she was essentially new. I guess you could consider this alan scott new, but really, how long before another DC reboot?

I think he was more known for his position in Checkmate than as GL lately. The original script for the GL movie gave him a cameo at the end.

I'm still trying to figure out why it matters. Do gay super heroes get different powers or something? Like honesty how is the character affected by liking dudes? But weren't Hulkling and Wiccan from the Young Avengers gay like 10 years ago? Really who gives a crap anymore?

My, how "progressive" of them... I no more want to see homosexual slurpings in a comic than I do heterosexual... Soap opera hand-wringing of any kind turns me off a title.

2-3 years on average. We'll see how long it goes.
