Hey guys, I finished my custom G1 Skywarp Skystriker a few weeks ago and finally got around to sharing him with you. I decided on a more nostalgic Sunbow Cartoon-style look, (like my earlier Thundercracker) with brighter purple accents and a translucent yellow canopy instead of the dull G1 toy version.

The main body is spraypainted with Krylon Fusion for Plastic in black, and I made the canopy yellow by dyeing it with Golden Yellow Rit dye in boiling water (be careful, the canopy can warp [*no pun intended*] easily so watch it carefully). The CobraStickers set for this guy is fantastic and really gives him that perfect finished look.

Hope you enjoy. Yo Joe!

Nice job, was going to do this as well, but then i remembered how much I prefer the seekers as F-15s..:) Starscream will be the only one in my collection like this (plus there is just no room fo all of these)...I'll leave the seekers in Takaras cabale hands (especially since they fully transform lol)

Cool paint and sticker apps though.

Sure, I used 2 coats of Krylon Fusion (for plastic) for Thundercracker, I believe the color was "bright blue"(?) but I'm not 100% sure. Pretty easy to do and the texture isn't too glossy either, nice smooth factory-looking coat for both him and Skywarp.

What color is that for the purple on Skywarp? What is so awesome! I need to go ahead and get this done when I get free time.

hey, awesome! Can you tell me what color and type of paint you used on Thundercracker, he looks awesome too!!!

*update* I checked the can when I got home and the actual color blue that I used for Thundercracker is Krylon Fusion "Patriotic Blue/Safety Blue". Hope this helps!

What color is that for the purple on Skywarp? What is so awesome! I need to go ahead and get this done when I get free time. Thanks! The color is Tamiya TS-24, sort of a light lavender-purple color.

I don't know what taunts me more, those awesome seekers or that Ren SS. Great job, now i want more Skystrikers. Thanks! Because we all know, ninjas are also jet pilots!

this is kind of why I never bothered to go after the cobra sticker sets.. I've had people want me to build them TC, but without someone supplying the jet to me, I didn`t finish the second project. Now they are rather hard to find. ahh well... some other time I suppose!

As for Air-Tight. Beautiful job on them! They look real good! Nice to see all three together. wish I had the room for all three!

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

Awesome- who else did you do besides Starscream, Thundercracker, Skywarp, Dirge, Ramjet & Thrust? ...Blitzwing? Thunderwing? Silverbolt?

I ordered the Jetfire set last week as well, the jet is all painted up and ready to go.. can't wait to get it done!

I just wanted to add something- I recently got a message asking how I did some of the paint application/Canopy coloration on these seekers, and figured that what I sent to the asker might be helpful to others too, so here you go:

•How do you prep the plastic?• Actually, for these guys- I didn't even have to! I used a really awesome type of spraypaint that doesn't require any sanding or primer (see below).

•How do you paint?• I use Krylon: Fusion for Plastic spraypaint, available at most Walmarts, hardware stores and craft stores. Rustoleum also makes a great direct-to-plastic spraypaint, which I've just used on Jetfire and Starscream's bodies. Make sure you get this type of direct-to-plastic paint or it may not hold properly!!! Then I touch up any details and drybrushing with regular acrylic paint after it's dry.

•What type of paint do you use?• (See above).

•How many layers?• 2 layers of spraypaint (on each vehicle). Let layers dry in between coats for best results.

•How do you build them up for a smooth decal worthy finish?• The best way to do this is to spray smooth strokes from left-to-right, and backwards. Never spray directly onto the plastic, it can pool, bubble, spatter or drip and that never looks good. Start spraying off the jet, then on, then off again. Look carefully to be sure you've covered all crevices. Particularly with the skystrikers, under and on top of the wings (both when deployed and closed), inside the jet intake engines in the front, and the panels and various corners on the back might get missed on the first coat. Once dry, examine the jet to find any spot you might have missed and then be sure to cover it during the second coat. The best part is that the Krylon: Fusion paint dries in like 15 minutes! If done as I've instructed here, you should be in great shape!

•How did you change the color of skywarp and thundercracker's canopy?• Ahh, glad you asked- it's VERY VERY tricky... Technically, there are 2 ways to do it... I did it the hard way, which is to boil a pot of RIT brand dye, and then dip the canopy in. The plastic will expand in the heat and start to absorb the tint. HOWEVER, BE WARNED!!! After having done this twice, I really do not recommend it... The small window of time that the canopy can be submerged is very short, and then the thin canopy will immediately warp and shrivel. Once this happens, it's basically trash and cannot be reshaped, and you're stuck without a canopy. I got lucky with mine with minor defects, but I can't say I'd recommend it for anyone else. The other option is to get ahold of some type of paint that will dry translucent, and apply that to either the interior or the exterior of the canopy. That's what I'll be doing next for Jetfire and my updated Starscream.

Anyway, I hope these tips help you out, and I wish you luck on your customizing adventure! If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Take care!

Neat. Need to paint the frame on starscream black so it looks more like the other 2. But can understand not wanting to customize such a high priced item.

That is awesome. Skywarp was always my favorite of the original three planes. I know they pretty much had to do Starscream for SDCC, but I would have loved a Skywarp Skystriker.
