Ok, I just got in the motherload of stuff I ordered from BBTS.com yesterday, and spend ALL day opening up and placing on shelves. Although I am upset with most of it, there was a few redeming things, very few. But, I'll start off with the figures. LAME, is the word best used to describe the biggest part of them. It's bad enough that we get huge missle firing junk that makes POC launchers look welcome. As in would rather have them. The launcher that came with duke was horrible. What makes these things worse is they are made with cheap plastic. The arm bands that came with snake eyes don't want to stay in the plastic harness. I bought 2 of them, both suck. Most of the figures have little to no other weapons. example...Duke. I did really like the Zartan and cobra commander, as well as the cobra and gi joe trooper. Problem? The backpacks are made of such soft plastic, they A. Don't want to go on, and B. Fall of at a sneeze. The heads with glowing eyes that came extra with Zartan are a cool concept. I thought it would be neet to set the glowing head of Storm Shadow on the extra storm shadow I got in. The problem here is Storm shadow is bright white, with bright silver. The extra zartan head is off white/gray. Blue weapons did not help. I was fairly impressed with the two 3 pack. The Roadblock is awsome, the figures were detailed with massive accessories. However CHEAP plastic caused these from being 10 out of 10. Common Hasbro? I mean after 30th anniversary quality, this is just plain awful. I liked the vehicles. I hated the drivers, but expected it, so it wasn't a total dissappointment. The awe...ninja striker thing is really cheap made. The wheels keep popping off at the shocks. Motorcycles are cool, drivers beyond suck. I think the final insult was the hiss tank. It used the same mold as the last ones, and dosen't even have the rubber tread. It tilts like a dump truck about 1/2 an inch forward for "strike" mode WTF? I know hasbro made a hall of heroes, but could they continue it for the collectors? What do you guys think?

Hello! its going to get cheaper as time and the economy goes on. Even Transformers feel cheaper than they use too. It has to been the resin their using, i heard that hasbro was getting resin or the supplies to make it from India, not china or at least that was about 6 to 8 months ago. The cheaper the materials and the process to make it, the cheaper the toy feels. Face it, its not 1983 plastic anymore.

I thought plastic was using different ingredients now.......I cant remember the type of stuff that everyone is phasing out now but that Hasbro said they are doing away with the toxic(?) part and using different components to make boxes and plastic toys....wonder if that is a issue with how the figs feel?

im honestly trying to figure out here, what hope we have as collectors. the plastic was nice on the 30th anniversary, poc, etc. so, what the heck happened here. Maybe they could take a note from mattel. They have outlandish priced figures, but look at what you get? The collectors need styff that don't fall apart in your hand. They say this is aimed at kids, but when I was a kid I didn't like toys that fell apart in my hand.

ya know, just a note, but hasbro makes the marvel universe line, and despite the lack of stands, they look better, and still are made decent. Why do this to one of your flagship lines?

OK then if the materials are cheaper both in expense and quality then why the hell are the prices of the toys themselves going up.

I got to see everything today.

Im out. 100%. They will not get a penny of my cash until I see the cancelled 30th figs I want.

I think some of the fanboys that are actually trying their ass off to justify thier purchase is doing a disservice to the brand. Ther best thing that can happen to GIJOE now, is for ALL this garbage to sit, and rot, and not be bought.

Let Joe die, go on hiatus again...And then when they get back to a 25th/POC/30th mentality with quality and figure design then release something.

I was a little embarrased to even LOOK at the garbage on the shelves. Those are the worst action figures to be called GIJOE since...shit...extreme was better. I dunno...worst ever. Dumb.

who said it was a flagship line? i love gi joe and have a ton of figures but lets be real, they are no way a flagship line. that would be either star wars, marvel, or transformers. gi joe is sort of niche line now.

Well from the figures I got I only don't like Roadblock much because the lack of articulation on the knees and feet and also the silly hand and lack of accessories.

Cobra Commander as the same issue but I find the helmet design quite good and I will be seating him anyway so lack of articulation is ok as so it the lack of accessories.

For Storm Shadow I feel the lack of accessories, SE single carded is a crap glad I got ride of him the Amazon set one is better, more accessories in the exact same figure.

Any other figure was an easy pass all I'm missing is SE bike which many people don't like but it seems cool to me.

its of minor consequence to me. I am selling my joes to lighten my load and probably wont be buying anymore in the future...AND yah the new tf prime toys feel delicately cheap...like the sligtest wrong twist and ka-snap!

yes, weve known for a long time the lack of stands and filecards isnt cool. overall cool accessories are missing from some figures. but, just be picky about which you buy. sounds like the op wasn't.

duke? did you really think that was going to be a cool figure? the thought never crossed my mind. like i have said before, the quadmissile launcher IS the selling point of that figure. some kids gonna see that and want it.

single card storm shadow = win
single card red ninja = win

3 pack red ninja = win

I think it's like plenty of other lines; There's good figures, there's mediocre figures, and there's bad figures.

I don't have all of them, but the only one I really don't care for is Roadblock.

My only other real issue is lack of stands.

Like I always keep saying, just be happy there are Joes out there to be bought, they won't last forever. Times are o' changing in the action figure world, buy what you like why you still can. If not, buy vintage before the plastic goes to shit....

I've been pretty darn happy with the Retaliation figures I've bought so far. The lack of stands and articulation isn't great, but at the same time I have Zip Loc bags full of extra weapons and stands, so it's not really a huge issue. So far I have:
Joe Trooper -- Great figure, great accessories. His knees are a bit rubbery though, which is a bit annoying, but hardly a deal breaker.

Red Ninja -- Great figure, but I wish he had more weapons. One sword, a set of nunchucks, and one bo would have been great. That way when you army build them, you could have different looks.

Cobra Soldier -- I bought him just for the parachute, and ended up really liking the figure. I don't really even mind the missing ankle articulation as much as I would have thought I would. Even with the missing articulation, he moves better then a lot of the 25th Anniversary figures because what articulation he does have all works great. His rifle/flame thrower thing is just ok, but the parachute and webgear are top notch.

I guess the biggest thing for me is that while I understand that these aren't quite up to the same quality level as the 30th figures, they still blow everything else currently on the shelf out of the water. Have you looked at those new Batman figures? Now those are some real turds.

Tai-Pan
05-30-2012, 07:39 PM
For the most part I agree, really kind of offended by the overall quality and accessories with these figures. I know times are tough and production costs have gone up, but please these figures are an insult and I really wanted to like them.
Zartan- good idea with the heads but overall I think it could have been a better body sculpt. And really the color of the weapons.?
Red Ninja- I like but more accessories rather than the pack in he came with, plus his left hand has problem holding his sword
Cobra Trooper-just boo!!!! A rehashed paraViper would have been better, cool gun though
Cobra Commander- like the head
GI Joe trooper- the backpack could be sturdier, but overall the best out of the wave 1 carded
I like the dojo set (the only one I could find) but I dont need anymore subpar snake eyes and storm shadows to bother getting the other 3-pack. I liked this set, beachhead is one of my favorite joes so always nice to get a decent version of him. The vehicles I am very disappointed in. Cheap plastic-fail, no stands-fail, lame pack-ins-fail. Overall, not Hasbros best work, frankly I would rather have RoC figures again, but that is my opinion.

The extra ss head that came with zartan will match in color with the 3-pack ss much better then the single card ss as the the 3-pack ss is off white to light grey. I am loving the 3-pack figures ! I have some hope that the movie figure line will be cheaply made but the line after the movie figures will return to the higher quality that the 30th line had.

This is a fail...the head sits horribley on the body and in no way matches that 3pack storm shadow body's color what so ever, not any better then the single carded one nor the amazon one either...you had me all excited I could use that useless head for something :( sigh sad panda

Tonight my wife and I stopped by Walmart to pick up some stuff and like always, we did a quick run through the toy aisles to check out any new merch. To my excitement, I saw Joes! On the shelves, not Renegades CC or SE and not left over ROC figures. These were actually the new Retalliation figures! I started sifting through the pegs to see what was there. At almost $9 a figure, I was gonna be very choosey. So I finally decided on 3. Cobra Trooper for possible troopbuilding, Zartan because my wife thought he was cool looking, and Roadblock because outwardly, he looked like a cool figure of THE ROCK and I thought it would be cool to have THE ROCK hanging out with my real Joes. The first figure I opened was Roadblock. After pulling off the lame shoulder pad and tossing that spring loaded jetliner he came with aside, I began studying the figure. Not a bad sculpt. His arms even had the veins sculted into them. Okay....now to remove this doohicky from his ha....Waitaminnit...IS THAT THING MOLDED TO HIS DAMN HAND?!! Grrrrr...no problem, there's gotta be a second hand included in the....WHAT?! No hand? You mean he comes with a rocket launcher bigger than Rhode Island and doesn't have a 2nd replacement hand? He's stuck holding this....this....THING?! And why doesn't he have the new foot joints? Or the extra knee joints? What's going on here? From there it was only a little better concerning the other 2 figures. Most of my complaints would be just echos of what's already been said in this post. Zartan, however, looks kinda cool.....but not as Zartan. I actually put the Storm Shadow head on him and plan to use him like a modern day Assassin's Creed style operative for Cobra. But all in all, I was horribly underwhelmed and probably will not purchase any more Retalliation figures....Unless I find Red Ninja cheap or something. BUt seriously, I can't justify almost $9 for this stuff. It felt like some sick ruse. These figures are like cheap knock-offs from Mexico or something.

If these figures are any indication of what the flim will be like, I might have to skip that too. And I was actually looking forward to it despite the deep wounds, still fresh, from the last movie.

Well, i like them, tc. So there.

Not, "like" in a, "Good enough" way either. I'm not kidding myself or being sarcastic. They remind me of when toys were allowed to be toys, and i think that's pretty cool. In spite of what some grown men collectors are complaining about, these come off as more arah like than anything since spytroops, imo.

I dont even have a handicap that im aware of, tc...although,admittedly, i am kind of a prick.

Ya know...I haven't been on this forum for probably a year. Thanks for reminding me why Mr. Know-It-All.

Geez! I don't have friggin time to sit on this site and read through every single thread like, obviously, SOME people do. Some of us have to actually do work at our jobs instead of dinking around on social media all day. I haven't been on this site for some time but when I bought these sub-par figures, I felt coming to Hisstank to see what's going on and state my thoughts on the figures. FYI:

buy a storm shadow, you'll fell better. :) awesome ninja figure.

try to pick up a complete roadblock from the 3 pack, then switch his hands and gear. the only problem is the ankle articulation. i dont mind too much because he's just posed with his big ass gun that came with the 3 pack anyway.

red ninja and joe trooper are the other figures worth it from this wave. much of wave 2 and 3 are passes as well.

Having a strong sensation of deja vu, like I've read all of this before in other whine rant threads, pretty sure I will read it again in threads with different names as well. It is tiresome I must say, don't like it then don't buy it, no complaining then and life can be better for it. :)

Yeah because I totally got to play with the figures before I purchased them and should've caught the flaws then. I guess I duped myself!

Maybe some of us bought the last wave of 30th Anniversary figures and assumed the quality would be the same, don't sit and read collector reviews about figures and toys all day, and actually have a life outside of action figures!

Do you guys even listen to yourselves? You whine about people whining about things you already whined about!

I've actually had none of the big 'issues' with the toys, simple fixes to hands or gear swapping and extra stands I have to use for them. I just think, people want movie figures to be just like non movie 30th/POC figures which being cheaper made movie figures was never going to happen with these. Actually, the ninjas with their extra articulation are on par with 30th and the Red Ninja is the sought after Renegades SS repainted so there are good figures here.

Definately keepin my eye out for Red Ninjas. The pics Ive seen of them look pretty cool.

I know movie figures aren't ever as cool as original stuff but I didn't think the quality on most of the ROC figures was too different from the 25th line. There were some decent looking figures in there that were worth puchasing for extras on base. They mostly had the same current articulation that Hasbro was producing at the time at least.

This thread seemed like the place to do that! Apparently, for some folks who are SO IN THE KNOW already, this is just too cumbersome to endure. So sorry....I didn't know how much torture my posting would be to certain folks on here. I'll make sure to check with you first before I post next time.

Great points. I find it sooo funny that certain people post" Oh great another one of these threads" or "who cares about what you think" blah blah blah. Yet if you feel that way WHY ARE YOU PUTTING YOUR 2 cents in?????? If you are so annoyed by it then DON'T POST YOUR ARROGANT comments.

i see each figure needs to be evaluated individually. some are geared towards collectors and some kids.

the red ninja mold, storm shadow, snake eyes, and joe trooper are all excellent molds worthy of the highest praise.

I can understand that and I liked the ROC figures too, do wish the drivers were articulated like normal. They just sit in the vehicle though, so not too big a deal to me anyway.

Sure, but when someone says, "hey, Roadblocks hand is perma-casted with this thingy in it.." One should take note. And my point is that there should have been no surprise... just a "Hey, they were right" kind of response. Not a WTF, I can't believe this!

Yes, this is correct. What was I thinking, where is my Hisstank notebook at where I can write down all the posts from 1,000's of Tankers daily. Then I can flip through hundreds of Hisstank notebook pages and look for the Tanker that talked about Roadblocks hand being perma-casted.

Because I've bought GI JOE figures for almost my entire life and just enjoy buying figures in the stores when I see them because I've grown accustomed to a certain standard that Hasbro has presented to me in the past. And...it's an action figure not a car! Going "all in" on 3 figures is not like buying an AMC Gremlin in the mid 70's.

I'm not like alot of collectors on here who collect several different toy lines all at once and by the case and I don't squander the grocery money to buy my toys. I buy them for fun.

I thought plastic was using different ingredients now.......I cant remember the type of stuff that everyone is phasing out now but that Hasbro said they are doing away with the toxic(?) part and using different components to make boxes and plastic toys....wonder if that is a issue with how the figs feel?

Well, like one of my old teachers used to say, "it's the good stuff that'll kill you".

Even so, the hands I'm sure could use a stiffer plastic without increasing the toxicity. The hands with weak grip just wreak of cost-cutting.

Ok, I think a lot of you missed the entire point of my post. Was I surprised? Yes, despite the warnings and reviews, I wanted to make my own decisions, and give the new Joes the bennifit of the doubt. As for those that complain about the posts on here, It's real simple, If you don't like what is posted, then don't read it, much less reply to it, Doh! I have a problem with using the extra stands, buying extra figures to make a good one, etc. It's the money. So, I have to buy an extra 3 pack at 30 bucks, to fix the 10 dollar roadblock I just bought. Hmmm, Is it really a figure worth 40 bucks? NOT! Yeah, I expected some of what we got. I know movie figures usually suck, but I was shocked as just how bad the craftsmanship really was. As for my last issue, I would like all of us, ALL of the fans to complain to Hasbro, and demand a continuation of the Hall of Heroes, or 30th anniversary line. Direct to consumer line for those of us that LOVE collecting. I mean, thats the whole point of this site isn't it? It's ALL about collecting GI Joe.

Here's the issue though, for the people that are on Hisstank a lot it gets annoying having to wade through thread after thread of the same content. When all that needed to happen was the original poster could have taken a few moments to check and see if there was already another thread going on the same topic. That's just common message board courtesy.

If you posted your thoughts in one of the many other threads that were all pretty much the exact same thread, then people would have read your comments and moved on. By starting an extraneous thread, you draw more attention to yourself.

storm shadow single carded
red ninja single carded
red ninja 3 pack
snake eyes 3 pack
joe trooper (tan)
the rock (kit bash)

these figures are all win.

i wont even mess with the others in wave 1 and i dont see to much more coming in the next 2 waves i want anyway.

but i think the criticism of this line has gotten out of hand...

Tankers constantly coming down on other tankers who might not be as up-to-date or forum-savy makes these threads come off as instantly hostile. If you're posting a comment about something that has already been addressed in a previous forum, WATCH OUT! You get passive-aggressively chewed out for being ignorant and late to the game. Instead of chastizing someone for daring to post something that you've already addressed or have seen addressed and are wanting to not be bothered with anymore, why not just NOT say anything and, better yet, NOT troll those threads looking for someone to punish for the sin of boring you. Because it really seems like many tankers are looking to tear someone down on threads like this. Probably gives them a superiority high.

To both questions, yes. No one is sure what to call those figures' colors - was it a running change or just a variant that Hasbro was planning? Depending on stores, geography, etc., will determine which one you think is the original. Based on photography, it would seem the blue cc and blue trooper were the original but I've seen about 50/50 of both and when you look at the reports as a whole, that seems about right.
