It's Official GIJOE Retaliation Wave 2 And 3 Cancelled
We regret that Hasbro has sent an e-mail this morning stating that Wave 2 & Wave 3 have in fact been cancelled until March 2013. The only Retaliation items we will see this year is the little Wave 1 product that are currently in stores now.
Thanks to http://www.kokomotoys.com/ for the heads up.

This. I'm sure we'll see them at some point... Unless February rolls around and Paramount decides what the movie REALLY needs is Smell-o-vision to make it pop. Then we might be in trouble.

Ebay will be busy for 9 months
brock Samson
05-30-2012, 12:19 PM
I foresee the current peg stock selling out. They'll start popping up on ebay and the gotta have it now people will pay premiums rather than wait 9 months for crappy figures. The only figures worth having are the red ninja and joe trooper. Maybe the Zartan as it's a faithful mold of the renegades (which I'm not a fan) if people are willing to forgive the lack of articulation.
My predictions:
The joe trooper will probably hit $30 bucks a figure within a month from now.
The red ninja will fetch a little less since there will be loose 3 pack versions available.
The 3 pack version of roadblock will fetch a premium loose.
The 3 pack with BH, Kamakura and Rock will fetch a premium.

Damn.
For the optimist, maybe, they will add another wave of 30th ann. figures for X-mas featuring Kwinn.
For the pessimist, there will be no Joe product out for X-mas, and the line will be cancelled when the movie gets cancelled in February.
So when we don't see them at retail in March (and we won't mark my words)...we will have to wait until they hit Ross 6-9 months later.
My wallet thanks me.

And that there says it all- Retaliation is all about touching up, modding, upgrading, and tweaking.
Is there any Retaliation figure that doesn't require some kind of "fix"?
How much "tweaking" did 30th Anniversary figures require?
And with the prices figures are going for at retail, that's why I'm not too concerned about these guys getting bumped back.
A $9- $11 figure shouldn't require any touching up.

The Jinx is really comic book based more so then movie based. It's on a 25th Anniversary styled card and it has comic art on the back. Also, it looks like they have probably already made them all, so they wouldn't want to store them for a year for no reason. If they thought waves 2&3 would sell through just fine at retail right now, they wouldn't have delayed them. The Jinx will sell out, movie or no movie.

I just heard from an unreliable source that not only is wave 1 the only wave we get but the recall is being performed by the Battleship cast members. They are going home to home and snatching the figures from the hands of children and replacing them with dark 3D glasses. I guess it was the only way they could get paid...
BBTS still has the pre-orders up but I think they will just move the dates along UNLESS they have the same connections that Santa does. Luckily, they don't charge for the pre-orders.

BBTS gets stuff in that does not always show at normal retail. All of the Transformers Reveal The Shield Voyagers and Scout figures only showed up at BBTS online and Hasbro Toy shop early in the year and sold out in minutes and then later on in the year only were sold at Discount Stores like Ross , Marshalls , and TJ Maxx.

How does it make sense for a toy company to spend all of this money to promote and make thier product (G.I. JOE Toys, Action Figures, Online Games, & Videos | G.I. JOE Online (http://www.gijoe.com) still dosent even inform its customers that the product is delayed/cancelled because of the movie delay) just to let it sit for 9 months in a wharehouse? You know what thats going to cost to store all of the product and or ship it back if they have it? It makes no sense what so ever to do this. They just need to release it and make money/keep retail happy, so they dont skimp in the next line that comes after the movie for "cost saving" features...this spells certain doom for the next toy line...Lanard is going be excited it has equal competition for once in regards toy product offerings...

I do hope to get some of those Wave 1 Red Ninjas, that wacky Zartan and the 2 3 packs, though. The only other stuff I wanted was Bruce Colton, yellow Jinx, Blind Master, the black/dark blue ninja guy, a few Night Vipers and that Ninja Cruiser 4x4 thing.

The club FSS has been delayed until Marh 2014 to ensure the GI JOE movie can fully get back on its feet and so that the figures can be redone in 2d with less articualtion.

Wow, and here I thought Hasbro had a new incredible marketing model. Start releasing the toy line almost a year before the movie, so that the entire toy line would be out just as the movie was released to make sure the entire line would sell strong.
But no, it was just a mistake on their part.
I really thought they were on to something!

Don't count on BBTS cancelling those Wave 3 orders. They'll just fulfill them in March instead of August.

And....
they have no back-up plan whatsoever to hold fans over for nine months?
I would respectfully consider re-releasing hard-to-find and yet to be released figures/vehicles on an alternate cardback for this hiatus. The items are pretty easy to fill in:
Wave 1:
Lowlight
Renegades Storm Shadow
Slice - parts already exist, no new tooling necessary
Dice - parts already exist, no new tooling necessary
Kwinn
Wave 2:
Zarana - if possible, repaint
Flint - PoC style kit-bash with Resolute headsculpt
Beachhead - Repaint of 3-pack Ninja Duel version with 25th webgear and PoC weapons - no new tooling
Rock Viper - Re-use base figure with smarter choice of accessories and web gear from existing library, no new tooling.
Snake Eyes - Re-use the head-sculpt under the Steel Brigade delta vehicle driver with existing parts from prior snakes and Retaliation
Hit & Run - more accurate darker color scheme to classic card art, more accessories, change headsculpt to PoC Dusty, no new tooling necessary....
Data -Viper? Why Not? There's no reason to not do it. If the DG figures are being bought in high demand fashion, why not release
at lease two lines that do not need new tooling at all as a filler between now and March?
Vehicles: Ashiko Cycle & HISS SCOUT!!!!!

I just noticed that BBTS changed the release date on their website and for any already made pre-orders (certainly mine anyway) for Wave 2 3.75 figures to March 2013. They haven't touched the Wave 2 vehicles or Wave 3 figures, but I assume it's safe to say it's only a matter of time until they get flipped to March 2013 from August and an e-mail is sent out from BBTS.
Seems like a solid confirmation to me.
Which is good. Wave 3 has ALL of the wave 2 figures as well, so 10 new figures and 2 junk figures is a pretty good ratio and I'd rather just order the wave 3 case and sell the 2 duplicates.

The can't release Dice because of the FSS - or at least, there is an understanding that they won't. Of course, after the year the Club has had, nothing is impossible. I don't see a Zarana only because they would be limited in what kind of repaint. On the other hand, could easily see another Dreadnok female. The rest seem reasonable.

Cancelled the movie and the toy line.
So Hasbro gave us half of a line and a cancelled line and movie. HAPPY 30TH EVERYONE!!!!!! Hasbro Style!

Would be really awesome if they did do this, but it would piss off the club people and sdcc people off to such a degree, that Hasbro would then have those two fires to put out. I could personally give a rat's ass about the club, sdcc, or Hasbro for that matter, who ever offers the best looking product for the best price gets my money, and if you keep burning me over and over eventually I'll throw my hands up and move on,... Dear Hasbro,
In the unlikely event that the three major toys retailers lose faith in your G.I. Joe product due to problems on your end with not being able to fulfill orders, poor sales of Rise of Cobra merchandise, marketing product for investing in and temporarily discontinuing it because of a film, not having a clear vision of what figures will sell along with core characters and poor decisions in making desirable vehicles that sell at MSRP, you may want to consider the alternative. A place so grand, never complains about the items they receive that never make it to retail, sells your items at a highly competitive price to retailers that refuse to clearance it out and prides themselves to great customer satisfaction. No. No. Just probably the start of a new temporary line, called, "Like totes Joe to the max fo' sho". It will consist of African American Ripcord as it's leader, and every one of the joes under him will use a iphone or android and talk to each other in text speak, and they'll all be on twitter. Cobra the ultra bum will be all sorts of nar nar and completely cock block the whole joe party, by invading every cell phone provider and hacking facebook and therefore having everyone who uses facebook under their mind control. They will release 2 waves of figures before that is the ultimate demise of yet another unsuccessful attempt to reboot the line.
Wave1
Ripcord with datapad
Ripcord with PDA
Agent Mary Whitehouse (the newest Dial-Tone)
Samsonite who is good at smuggling suit cases past TSA
Duke
and of course Snake Eyes and Cobra Commander
Wave 2 is
Ripcord with Alpha Delta Epsilon suit
Duke with Omega device and launching arm cannon
Snake Eyes with Ninja Kata
Cobra Commander
And.... Wait for it,... Super Duper Awesome must have it chase figure Storm Shadow that everyone must want because everyone says so, and because he's just so gosh darn rad, and will go for totes a lot of money on The Bay!!!!

I'm guessing these will be like Pursuit of cobra.... As in a chance to change the figures and packaging in the nine months. Maybe with the fan reaction to the limited articulation on the figures and complaints of the card art, Hasbro will see this as an opportunity to make the most of these figures by reworking them, thus making the ones out right now a rarity. Any one share this thought?

There's no way they're going to switch gears and crank out new packaging. And a new SKU for stores to order stuff. It would barely get to stores by the end of the year which would then compete with the relaunched movie line in Jan. Stores just clearanced out non-movie stuff for the movie SKUs. There's no way they're going to change directions again.
I think they could mix up assortments, and ship some of the non-movie characters in movie packaging to fill the gap, but I highly doubt it.
I can't imagine Hasbro wanting to stop wave 2 from hitting, since it's already on the water. I would have let those orders go through. They would sell out by the time of the relaunch. Wave 2 is probably either at distribution centers in the states. I can't see retailers just wanting to sit on them for 9 months or spend the energy shipping them back.
I wonder if Hasbro would be inclined to switch the HISS to black for the relauch. It would be a cool little bonus for people that bought it now. They get a blue one that'll be phased out. And a black HISS is more iconic and better matches the film.

I suspect at least for the wave 2 stuff there is probably enough product that has already been made that you will see it somewhere; if not in major stores, maybe stores like Ross, Marshall's, and Big Lots.
If nothing else, I'm sure we'll see a bunch of this stuff from Chinese Ebayers for a while; maybe to the point of some figures becoming as common as the Elite Ice Vipers were.

I bet hasbro is more worried about the metric ton of battleship stuff sitting on the shelves at every store in the know universe right this moment. you think avengers stuff with offset all of this black hole? I'm a PC flight and racing sim geek, so I'm used to this.
Simulator fans are a niche market in video gaming, realistic combat and racing sims on the PC are an even tinier niche. So, we see very few titles.
Action figure collectors are a niche market in toy and hobby markets and military figure collectors are an even smaller niche. It gets worse when the movie tie-in gets delayed a month away from opening night.
My opinion? Get ready for a 9-month drought.

You can scratch this off the list...there is no way hasbro is going to allow product they are requesting be held to end up at those retailers, this isnt some petty street date now. Much less let it reach current retail. Hence why BBTS and Kokomo have canclled the wav 2+ orders or postponed them to 2013...

Anyone who thinks Hasbro will put some more 30th or some kind of filler line between now and the movie, are on drugs. It takes many months to plan and produce a toy line. By the time they had one all planned out and produced, it would be to close to the movie to release it. Get ready for no Joe's in stores for 9 months people.

At the end of the day all this really says to me is no one has faith in G.I. Joe, and that they don't care about G.I. Joe as an intellectual property or what it means to people. Were the people watching the screen test fans? I highly doubt it. For all we know it could have been a great movie that fans would have loved, maybe not. We wanted Duke dead, they listened. Honestly, it seemed like a way to correct that mistake of letting him live back in the 80s. Let the property move forward, etc. No, what Paramount and Hasbro care about is money, and that's it. There is nothing else that matters. They don't care about how good the movie is, about the people who buy the toys, about what anyone thinks, they just want the movie to make money. They don't care how it makes money, just that it makes money. That's what the problem is here. Look at Marvel, that's a company who cares and wants to make a good product, not just money, and it's paid off.

I agree...i am just not a huge Marvel fan or Transfomers fan...it just not as interesting as GI JOE is and was..it sucks that I have to be a fan of the collection that Hasbro likes the least :( they didnt act this way when Joe was thier bright child...back before Kenner had to flatulate and implode themselves and drop Star Wars...panzies...

Call me an optimist, but I think some wave 2 will sneak out to retail. At least to some direct market customers. Granted, their prices will skyrocket on the aftermarket.
You're an optimist.
And that Firefly with the transluscent arms everyone was bagging on a few weeks ago? The 100 or so of that slip out early in the next few months will be $85 a pop on Ebay. Watch.

As much as I love Marvel, and it's the biggest of my passions, G.I. Joe is something that just grabs you and never lets go. I was into TF more than G.I. Joe for years and years as a kid, and honestly, I could care less at this point. No matter what they do to the Joes though, I still love the property. At this point I can't see them ever fixing it. It seemed like the 25th Anniversary was a step in the right direction, they fumbled a bit with ROC, but it brought about a lot of cool stuff. Now, who knows, they don't care, just drop it and move on. Let it rest, stop #($(ing with us already!
Also, I've already waited a long time for these new Joes, I actually LOVE waves 2 and 3, warts and all. It's so hard to accept that they are mere WEEKS away and now I have to wait another @#_@ing YEAR.

They should have just stuck to the schedule a released the figures they have up until the end of Q4. Then came back in Q2 with new movie accurate figures. How much harder is it to sell these figures than POC/30th Joes honestly? Probably not any harder.
If it is still being released...

Can they at least start producing some of the cancelled 30th figures for a Christmas release?
...or at least throw us some rewind waves that have some of the harder to find figures from 25th (they already did something like this with the 25th), and some POC (minus Arctic Destro & Desert Duke)...it seems like walmart, target and toys r us practically refuse to restock any GI Joes even when new waves are released...I'm sure everyone's heard me rant about not seeing anything from POC wave 4 up to the first Renegades wave, then zilch after that for months...

I'm absolutely floored at the batsh*t crazy theories some of you guys have.
The movie was delayed so the toy line was DELAYED. Why is that so hard to understand?
There is a good reason for this... retailers will not order lots of product based on a movie that is not coming out until next March. So of course it makes sense for Hasbro to hold the product and release it when they can piggyback on all the movie's promotion.
No one has cancelled the movie.
No one has cancelled the movie toy line.
They will not send the toys directly to Ross.
In what world would any of that make any sense business-wise? While I hate the delays, they all make sense from a business (and yes, money making, which is what businesses are designed to do) point of view.
People need to grow up and think logically.

But didn't you hear because the movie got delayed, they are in panic mode and have announced the following line changes.
• All races will change. White Joes will become Chinese, African American Joes will become Arab and all other minorities will be Mexican.
• Accessories will now be sold separately and be priced 1.25 each. Available only through the collectors club and be limited to 250 run for each piece.
• Only neon colors will be allowed for all paint applications.
• GI Joes will now only be sold in Dollar Generals east of the Mississippi.

Anyone that thinks that Hasbro will release these figures come March has rocks in their head.
If you think this, then it shows that you have not been paying attention to what hasbro has done to jack with GI Joe in the last 5 years alone.
How crazy is it that Hasbro will be previewing the same GI Joe toys at the NY Toy Fair in 2013 that were viewed at the previous Toy Fair in 2012.

About as crazy as cancelling a ton of ROC figures towards the end of that line to distance themselves from the rushed film only to have half of them end up on POC cards only to have POC postponed for 8 months only to turn into the 30th and Renegades (based on a cartoon canceled to make room for the film) which were then put on hiatus for the film being moved forward only to have the film then moved back putting the line on some fucked up partial hiatus that then puts the speculated return of the 30th on hiatus not to mention what will happen if the Retaliation film and or toys and or both just completely tank regardless, in the end, in March?

Ummm... actually I think most folks think they will re-release wave 1 in some form in March. These are some of the core movie characters plus some popular army builders. Many of these same figures are in wave 2 so they might move forward in that way, but Roadblock, CC, Duke, SS, SE will all be on the pegs come March because these will be the characters kids will want to buy once they see them on the movie screen.
What looks like might change is additional Duke figures if the character's screen time is indeed increased. Don't expect them to cancel waves, recall toys, and mess up store plans just to change their minds in a couple of weeks.

Yes, but will the retailers order more product for 2013 given the 2012 turnout. Also, would Hasbro dump it's current figures into discount chains to develop different figures.
All of this is virgin territory. It's going to be interesting to see how this plays out.

I have really shown my butt to Hasbro over this. Their replies are pretty much "forwarding you to the never heard from again department." Here is my most recent reply to their endless spewing of blahblahblah garbage:
No, I have more to say. I have put a ton of money on Hasbro's bottom line over the years. I am an adult with a paying job who buys your product. Hasbro, as a company, has gone out of its way to disrespect collectors like me so it can be the flavor of the month for whatever six to eight year old begs their parent for a toy. If the movie is a success, that child will buy a few toys, treat them badly, put them in a yardsale or throw them away, then move on to Ninjago or whatever the trend happens to be at that time. I have been a loyal Hasbro customer all of my life. All I get is mentioned to a "cosumer affairs" department filed between a focus group in an Indiana mall and a survey on a cereal box? Not good enough.
I know I am a fool to expect anything more, but I really thought this company was better than that. So much for giving back to loyal customers.... little Billy might need a new toy to destroy!
Overreation? Probably. I don't care. They're being jerks.

Thanks to Kokomo Toys & Collectibles (http://www.kokomotoys.com/) for the heads up.Time to argue semantics...

Yup..shitty, but nothing we can do about it. I'll use to time to give the wallet a bit of a rest, and snag a few 25th vehicle sets and/or SDCC exclusives then.
Besides, I'm only buying a few figures here and there from the movie line as I got alot of what I wanted from wave 1. I'll grab wave 2 Firefly, Flint and RB, and Colton, Lady Jaye & Black Dragon ninja from wave 3, once they are out. I am undecided on the Ninja combat cruiser and ripper tank though.

Waves 2 & 3 will come out earlier than March 2013. They have to, simply because the Summer and Christmas season are major ordering intervals for big retailers like Target, TRU and Walmart. To sit on top of cases that have been ready for shipment for nine months is idiotic. If Wave 1 sales meets Hasbro's expectations then they will not just stop the brand for a hiatus or continually manufacture the same product for it to over run its course and become stagnant/non-profitable in stores.
Wave 2 is delayed but I'm willing bet money that we'll start seeing it by Christmas since its already been packed and sealed up in new cases slated to come out later this month. If Hasbro has absolutely nothing new to ship Joe wise for retailers for the fall they wouldn't capitalize the opportunity make thousands for a busy season which isn't like them. If it isn't Retaliation then it has to be something in its place for this announced hiatus in new Joe related product.
I'm anxoius to find out what Hasbro's backup plan is. It should be a no brainer to re-release HTF PoC and 30th Anniversary figures along with some kit-bashed figures to make new characters for two or three new waves to hold us over until March of next year. It could be on alternative non-character themed cardbacks at a lower MSRP of $7.99. Place Kwinn in here and thats a smart way of getting him out there for us to buy.
