Not a bad way to pick up waves 2 and 3 in one case.
If it gets canceled, oh well, it'll be relisted later.
If it makes it through to shelves, so much the better.

And, yeah, I'd rather pay $14 each for the 1 or 2 figures I want as opposed to buying a set or case for $70 - $100.

With the exception of the odd carryover of wave 1 Snake Eyes, this is a pretty solid wave for me.
Has all of wave 2, all of wave 3, and the only "extras" are the aforementioned wave 1 SE and Battle Kata Roadblock, which I'm sure I can get rid of either through trades or a sale.

I put a case in my cart, upped the quantity real high and it corrected it to 470 cases. 10 seconds later when I tried to check out with one case, it said the product had sold out. And both the case and figure set pages now say sold out after I had just been on them as in-stock a minute ago. Seems like either BBTS pulled them or some enterprising individual pre-ordered a huge quantity.

It's not the first time BBTS has had listing up and not in the right spot. For example, they had their Avengers/Marvel legos listed for ages and you couldn't actually find them on the site, you had to use google. Same thing with DKR stuff at one point. It's nothing to theorize about in other words.

Hard to say. I'd be inclined to agree with you...-except- for the fact that they added the picture after the fact. It's not that hard to simply remove an item from their listings entirely. If they're just canceling the orders/they shouldn't have gone out...why add the picture?
I think someone may be attempting to mega-scalp this wave off of BBTS.
Though honestly with everything going on, I could see them "legitimately" selling out pretty quick too. Look how many people here were ordering multiples. It'd only take a couple or three hundred Joe fans to wipe out 500 cases/sets, and word can travel fast through the websites.

Between the time I had 470 in my cart, switched it to 1 and tried to check out, it was about 30 seconds. So I think it's either a mega-scalper or BBTS shut the listings down to assess the situation.

That can be a pain in the ass though(and given the innitial cost of getting a ton you dont need IE Roadblock/Storm Shadow and wv1 nake eyes), i still have around 45 POC figures I cant offload..people keep balking and changing thier minds lol..and with the extras in this case and then setting up to ship/recieve money...no ones gonna want some of these anyway since they are mostly troop buidlers which of coure i will keep and carry overs from wave 2 which people will already have ordered from the 5 pack BBTS offered for that wave.

Of course it can be, but that's part of it. I'm sure demand for Retaliation figures will hold steady through the upcoming drought so I'm not worried about buying a couple of cases. Worst case senario? Custom fodder. No big deal.

That's a BBTS quantity too. I mashed the keypad to test the quantity and the back button shows I tried to put 1144 in my cart. BBTS adjusted it down to 470. I adjusted it to 1 and then went to take a closer look at the 5-figure-set and case pages to see what else was in the case, and upon refreshing them saw them switch to sold out status. Tried to check out with the 1 still in my cart and got the message about the quantity no longer being available.

It is if your done doing customs...that is a big deal and a waste of good money...my fodder pile is REDONCULOUS and i will never ever make that many customs with all of the millions of parts I have collected over the years...theres not that many figures left I want even to make them since hasbro wont...that list is getting very very small now..and will require some super tooling and head sculpts to get done anyway that none of this will offer in custom fodder.

Yeah lol they are more concerned about us NOT buying them then actually trying to sell them...really at this point none of the figures they are offering spoil anything, they are all either off screen figures no where near the movie verse or characters already shown in the trailers. Even at that, they look nothing like their onscreen counter parts aside form the actor likness in the face...so i dunno what the deal is. Just make new product for next year and release all of these figures now while the demand is high for em and they have time to get some figures in the pipeline.

Cancellation doesn't necessarily mean "nothing but Wave 2 until next year." It could also mean "the assortment is being reworked."
We saw this happen earlier this year with the DC All-Stars figures. I could see Hasbro putting out a "wave 3" that didn't include Colton or Lady Jaye and might "sub in" the Crimson Guard and/or Night-Viper. Basically giving us another "troop builder wave" like PoC waves 5/6 were and technically sticking true to their "The majority of the MOVIE product will be held back" statement.
But that's purely speculation at this point, and would undoubtedly lead to the product being delayed a couple months.

On the one hand, you have to admit it makes sense to pull the toys for the movie next year. Just because we might want a few of the figures, they need to have something to support the movie next year. The problem with a business plan is when the plan gets upended - and this certainly has done that to Hasbro's Joe plans.
On the other hand, it would be far, far easier to release the figures as planned to give them time to create something for the movie next year rather than have NOTHING on the pegs for 6 months. And there are many characters that are not supported with figures that could be created - movie Duke, ambush Flint and Lady Jaye, The President, repaint/redo Hiss, Mouse, and the President's Aid/Zandar. Redux the Ghost Hawk II into either a transport or the Rattler II (that's what we thought it was when we saw it in the trailer anyway!).
They have three decisions and none are easy: no product, go ahead as planned and add more product, or come up with a filler line ala PoC right quick. The DG figures show that they can do amazing stuff quickly and easily with the parts and accessories on hand. (I wish the Club did as well as that!) Maybe they will create more of these type "classic" figures.
But if they decide not to ship wave 3 (or even 2), it is understandable. How they proceed from there will be what will suggest the future of the Joe toy line.

I don't know that we can be sure how quickly the DG joes were developed. At the very least Hasbro has said in the past with the Star Wars line that even a "repaint/rerelease" wave takes 6 months to go from drawing board to store shelf, which if that holds true for Joe means they wouldn't get anything out in time to do much good anyway. Maybe one wave before Christmas and that'd be it (because then it'd be time to re-release the movie stuff).
Releasing the product as planned is very iffy. Without the movie to support casual and new buyers, we're faced with a movie "push" volume of product with only existing collectors to support it. While it looks like Retaliation product has a much lower volume than RoC did, I recall that even RoC sold well in the first couple weeks as collectors got their fill. We might very well run into a "can't get past Wave one on the shelves" scenario inside a month. Realistically it'd hit at least wave 2, but beyond that? Very iffy. Then retailers end up with a backlog of product prior to the big "re-release/re-push" for the movie.
Finally, I think the major issue boils down to money: For Hasbro to make new product to coincide with the new release date they have to spend more money on the line, and at this point I think Hasbro believes it's simply more cost-effective to hold product back than to make new stuff. And of course this means that whatever their post-movie plans were, they're likely getting pushed back a year ala PoC.

Well bbts and ee both have these sets listed early, the Hasbro pre-sale date for retaliation wave 3, 2012 marvel universe wave 1, and sw vintage wave 4 starts tomorrow 5-30. Hasbro may have simply asked them to pull it down until then.

Well bbts and ee both have these sets listed early, the Hasbro pre-sale date for retaliation wave 3, 2012 marvel universe wave 1, and sw vintage wave 4 starts tomorrow 5-30. Hasbro may have simply asked them to pull it down until then.
Ah, good point, things for the insight dorksidetoys! You're presence here in the community is great. I'm sure hope so, that would make my day. :)

To be fair, Hasbro hasn't really seemed to mind having nothing on the pegs for the last six months, so I don't think there's any guarantee that they will have a problem with the next six months having bare pegs too. My guess is that we will have what we currently have for a while, and then come Christmas time they will start pushing the movie figures again.
I'm only looking to get Snake Eyes (ninja Duel) because he's a better version than Wave 1 and maybe Firefly. Although he wouldn't be Firefly in my Joeverse but another Cobra operative.
The rest are uninspired or just plain terrible. Roadblock has those giant ammo clips on his legs, Lady Jaye is a simple repaint, Bruce Willis looks awful with the one knee pad and hunched neck, Dragon Ninja is out because I'm burning out quickly on ninjas, Wraith never interested me so I'll pass on this "Cyber Ninja" repaint, and Alley Viper's paint scheme and lack of accessories or flak jacket bothers me.
I'm waiting for Wave 4 & 5. But with the slim chance these are widely released and the anticipated high demand, I'm expecting to pay a premium.

The 6 month number is a fair one when talking about new tooling/new molds. The DG figures were simply very clever repaints. The start up time for those is significantly less - as the Club has shown. If they wanted to make a ... say an IDW Crystal Ball, that would take a while to put it together. If they wanted to make a Black CG, they would be ready to go tomorrow with that. Or another Greenshirt/Grunt type of basic figure. Even a clear Zartan.

The big problem with continuing the line is that the plan-o-gram is probably going to be reset in 3 months for the holiday season. Joe cannot continue past August at Walmart and Target unless Hasbro keeps producing movie toys through the end of the year, which seems unlikely.
If production stopped right now, Hasbro would have about 2-3 months worth of product still in the pipeline. They'd have enough to go through the end of summer. Retailers are likely to stop ordering probably even less than 2 months from now, since they won't be placing orders in August if the toys are just going to be clearanced a month later.
I would be surprised if TRU did not want G.I. Joe on the shelf for the holiday season in some form. I could see any remaining stock of Retaliation becoming TRU exclusive for the rest of the year after the other stores drop it. However, the movie studio may not want Hasbro to have anything out there after the summer, as we saw they wanted a 6-month blackout on any new toys this year.
Chances are whatever the final wave is to ship, will be a pretty rare wave. It simply won't have been in production for as long as the others and its characters won't get to be repacked in a future case. Whether that's Indy Last Crusade or Indy Temple of Doom quantities, we don't know.
We won't know if more will simply be produced next year or if the releases next year will be revamped/redone in some way.
I'd like to see something like the VvV single figure line - maybe some of the better or rarer RoC and 25th figures, or vehicle drivers without the oversized missile weapons at a bargain price.

No, Hasbro's statements in the past have said that it's actually 12-18 months for new tooling/new molds to go from drawing board to store shelf (though this was for an "all new" figure).
The Club is a different animal doing runs of at best a couple thousand figures they sell directly to the consumer, often in a single box or without unique packaging. Hasbro's timelines take longer as the product is for mass-retail, and they have to get the retailers to commit to buy before it has any real chance of hitting shelves...another daunting prospect given the current situation.

Retaliation Firefly for me is going to be Glow-Worm...he was a worker forced to clean up Chernoybl and has thus been horribley infused with radiactive material that he is a walking hazard. thus why his arms glow nuclear green.

The 6 month number is a fair one when talking about new tooling/new molds.
No, Hasbro has said in the past that a new figure takes about a year or more (granted, Joe might take a tad less time with the reuse it does).
As Jmaq said, REPAINTS take about 6 months (at least a third of that is shipping time).
And don't forget that it isn't just a new deco design, Hasbro contracts multiple factories, and they still have to locate tooling, test the deco, design packaging, get shipping lined up (don't forget Hasbro is also shipping Transformers, Star Wars, Avengers, Spider-Man, marvel, My Little Pony, Littlest Pet Shop, etc)...it's not just "flip a switch and make toys".
Again, the only major thing I see before Christmas is a reworked wave 3, a shuffle of figures from the different waves. I don't see them having the time to do anything close to "new product".
Again, unless Hasbro knew about the change several months ago (which it doesn't appear that they did) they just don't have the time to "throw together" new product by the time the movie stuff will have to hit (I'm certain movie stuff will be launch right after Christmas to ensure saturation by the movie's release)

I e-mailed BBTS after the sell-out and just got a reply from Jessica. Mystery solved...
"Hi, We did have to remove the case and set from the website due to Hasbro's request. We will have it listed once we are told we can."
I think this comment might getting missed by folks. That's a pretty open-ended response, as when "we can" could be March of next year. The fact that they asked them to remove does not sound like something that will be fixed tomorrow.

There has been plenty of hard-to-find movie merchandise from Hasbro lines lately. Usually the tail-end stuff...look at Iron Man 2 Mandarin wave, Thor Lady Sif/King Loki/King Laufey/Heimdall waves, Indiana Jones Temple of Doom wave for some examples. Even when some of it shows up on the closeout circuit it's not enough to impact demand very much.
We're also in totally uncharted water with this movie postponement. Hasbro could have cut production on some items at a very arbitrary point in time, and we don't know whether they'll reproduce the same items next year, revamp the line or even cut the line back due to being released in the toy-unfriendly month of March.

It also doesn't help that all of the marvel movie lines contain an abundance of core characters that are heavily present in the comic line. I'm sure staring at a wall of Iron Men has a lot to do with the later waves being scrubbed. As much as we hate the amount of SE and SS made, they still don't come anywhere near the marvel lines

If we get confirmation we will announce it and we will have lower shipping costs and lower prices per case than what is currently out there.

Thank you for your understanding during this rough patch.
Guess I am emailing that person and asking for a refund then..I dunno why I didn tget that email ...

Nothing from BBTS here. I assume they just keep them on pre-order for you. They don't charge you until your ordered items ship. No biggie.

I like it how Hasbro wants to cut costs by merely reconfiguring some of the old stuff, then repainting it, and then thinking we are stupid enough to buy that crap. Cuz that's what it is...Crap!
It doesn't matter anyhow, I wont buy a single piece. Not unless they return to Pursuit of Cobra standards.
I actually feel insulted.

I got the same message from Kokomo, and my preorders for the ninja combat cruiser (wave 2) and the wave 3 case says March 2013 at bbts. I am hoping that bbts may get some in anyway. A fella can hope.
