View Full Version : Who was Retaliation Trooper supposed to be?

Jay West

So the Retaliation Trooper does not appear to be movie accurate. He also seems to have more in common with the POC/30th figures that the Retaliation figures. So...who or what was he originally supposed to be? His head sculpt is pretty specific for a troop builder.

Does anyone think he might have been a POC like update for a classic character? Maybe a POC Grunt?

I'd love for someone at Con to ask about his development.

The headsculpt is Sideshow Beachhead.

The regular helmet is the "Master Chief"- in the same vein as other borrowing POC favorites like "Aliens" Duke, and "Predator" Spirit, Shadow Tracker, Firefly, etc...

The patch on his right shoulder is icing on the cake.

Just a generic MW3 figure...the mohawk speaks volumes to the audience it was grasping for...I prefer the halo head...the cape is for the AD&D fans its +2 to stealth and +1 fire resistance(tan) and the (blue) is +1 frost resistance and +3 HP

Bradley Maddrox(another board member) and I were discussing this while out on our Retaliation hunt this morning,

To us he's "just not generic enough" to be NOBODY..

we just got a few diffrent Steel Brigades for Green Shirts

So he needs a name....

I was thinking of doing the Ret. 3-pack Beachhead with Steel Brigade vest kitbash too, but I think you need the turtleneck collar to pull that look off. Never thought to use Ren. T-rat's scarf.

To me, this figure is as cool as any figure that came out of the 30th. I picked up two, and with those knives, I've decided to call on Master Chef (MC) and the other Assistant Chef (AC). In my Joeverse they will be the love children of Roadblock and Rachel Ray.

He's meant to be a generic trooper.

The first couple waves of figures aren't movie accurate. The Cobra Trooper doesn't appear in the movie, neither does Duke/Flint in those looks or Roadblock.

Because of timing issues, having to get product on shelves, the first couple waves weren't going to be movie accurate.

I agree. That head is totally sideshow beachhead. Also, I freaking love all the Hollywood references in the last few years. There has been a lot.

I was planning to get at least 5 for generic Joe troopers and use the 'Halo' head then paint the mohawk a darker brown, Lifeline's m-4, 3 pack Beachhead's body (switch out the upper legs with Ret. Snake Eyes/30th Viper)...bag up the extra 4 Mohawk heads...for a modern Grunt...

When and if I can ever find one I'm using it as one of Flint's Falcon squad or whatever it was from Renegades. It's almost...kinda close if you squint your eyes real hard. Atleast that'll be my use for the movie Joe Troopers until Hasbro makes a real Renegades verison.

He's meant to be a generic soldier but in my Joeverse there is no such thing. Same holds true for Steel Brigade. If you're a Joe, you have a specialized talent and deserve a unique code name.

I just got him yesterday at Walmart while on the weekly grocery food run. I haven't opened him yet or taken the time to think of a good code name.

I bought Ret. Duke (which looks great w/ a POC Duke head) and then I went back and watched the Ret. trailer again. The armor is actually pretty accurate if you look close. It's just that the rest of the outfit should have been desert camo instead of that weird green. Flint presumably wears the same thing in that scene so his figure is somewhat accurate as well (again, minus the camo).

I almost forgot, I picked up a G.I. Trooper yesterday and, other than the soft plastic, he's awesome!

A lot of soliders (througout history) have rocked 'hawks, so it's appropriate and I think kinda of refreshing to have a new cut.

I personally really like it. The face sculpt is great by itself, and the mohawk seems "realistic" somehow; like that's what a mid-20's Army Ranger-kinda guy might actually have.

He's every military/sci-fi first-person-shooter protagonist rolled into one. Seriously, between the "Master Chief meets Ghost Recon" head and a backpack that carries a multitude of weapons....

I need two or three more. Fantastic figure and I've already figured out how they fit into my "Joe Verse."

Definitely the "Gem" of Wave 1.

But for a supposed army builder or generic soldier, it looks weird to me that all of the GI Joe troopers have this same exact haircut.

I think it's supposed to be less mohawk, more "high and tight." But yeah, unless the Joes have gotten into the cloning business or you happen to be handy with a paintbrush, the unmasked head is of limited value in large numbers.

Great for customizers though, I'd imagine.

JD Viper you hit it right on the money man. I thought it was sideshow Beachhead at first, but after looking at this pic, its undeniable. Only difference is the hair color. Its down to the chin and everything. Saying that, even Soap from MW and Sev from Killzone all look the same anyway.

I'm no Military expert by any stretch, but I've never seen any Military man have a haircut like that.

Is this something I'm missing? Why would Beach Head have a mohawk?

BH is badass and the haircut would fit, but I just thought it would be a bit inappropriate for the Military.

G.I. Joe is basically like the real-life Delta Force, and there's a lot of lenience with hair, clothes, etc. so they do not stand out as obvious military personnel.

Yeah I would have rather had him have 2 holsters, least one on his belt vs. the knife holder or one on both hips...the back pack is a huge slung together mess lol...hate the way the guns fall outta of it...thinking of gluing it all together...or cutting the holsters and gluing them to his hips...
