molded the head fins from jungle viper soft plastic and trimmed down POC fireflys head for the helmet. the Eel body plused up with alley viper upper legs and a trooper knife/sheath gave him the base look i needed then i reformated his pack/tank and some arah fins as well. (moving the pegs was a pain in the ass!) simple spear gun and trident complete him and hes ready for paint apps when i get a minute.

added a pic of the shortened /fixed neck, looks much better, thanks for the sugestion. may run longer hoses under his arms instead of the short ones, as the tension is poping his back pack out and they look unnatural flared out as such, will need to remount oxygen ports on his mouthpiece to face forward but i think this may be the thing to do; he'll look better in pilot mode without the catfish like ends flapn. also thought to run air lines inside the cockpit for him to hook up to?

update 23 Jun 12: i reconfigured his mask, so the air nozzles are front facing and i took some paintable green stuff and attempted the tapered helmet fin. cut some cabling and made the chest hoses and also sliced it to make the guantlet gauges. initial paint apps are done and hes lookn good so far.

also, does anyone know how i might achieve a scale effect, short of plying a wood burner to the plastic? not sure im going to go for it but if i can come up with a viable method with minimal fuss, i just might. thanks in advance for any input.

nice custom but I think you need to drop the head down a notch it looks a wee bit to high in the neck . other then that awesome. can't really help on the ol scale effect issue as I have the same prob I'm making a customer hydro too

Try heating up a small c shaped wood cutting tool and come in at an angle from below just slightly (top to bottom) for scales. COBRA!

I agree with tycondrius on the length of the neck, shorten it and it will look better, perhaps sculpt it out a bit to make it more muscular/masculine. Beyond that, it's golden!

Great job...do you ever sell your customs, or are they for your collection?

hey snow wolf, thanks for the interest man; up until now everythings been about just filling holes in my collection but hopefully very soon i will be able to cast, copy, and kick a few of these out to the community. Raginspoon and tofujesse have been great about helping me along and hopefully with their ongoing support i can make that a reality. my aversion to selling anything that isnt at least cast in the intended base color is that when they move paint chips and rubs and just really takes all that work down a notch. sometimes depending on the figure i can get an essentially posable piece, but about half my work is display only with limited posing. hang in there, and hopefully soon we can throw a few of these together thatll hold up to full blown disPLAY. if all goes well a limited run of the "sea demon and devil ray" will be available after joecon.
