View Full Version : Retaliation Toys: What will we find now?

After reading the letters from Hasbro, the various articles on news sites, and the other post, it is clear that the Retaliation well will be a bit shallow for a long time. Around Corpus Christi, Texas, folks have found a smattering of Wave 1 figures. To my knowledge, no one has found 3-packs or vehicles.
Here are my burning questions:
What toys will actually make it to the shelves at this time?
Will the vehicles (HISS tanks, Ninja Cruisers, etc.) make it to shelves now?
Was Wave 2 far enough along in distribution that the figures might make it to store shelves?
I would love to read all information, snippets, comments, and questions all of you have about this topic.

The following items have already made it to retail:
-Wave 1 single card figures (9 of them, 11 if you count variant CC and Joe Trooper)
-Amazon 4 figure preview pack
-HISS tank with CC
-Ghost Hawk II with Duke
-Fang Boat with Swamp Viper
-Ninja Commando 4x4 with SE
-Firefly and SE with Motorcycles
-Ninja 3 packs (SE, SS, Red Ninja) and (Beachhead, Kamakura, Roadblock)
A handful of single card wave 2 figures have shown up from Asian sites, so it's safe to say they are already produced, but if they haven't made it to US distribution centers yet, we may not see them until Jan/Feb of 2013.

Many stores probably have most of the toys you listed in their storerooms, but the new rumor is that the toys are going to be shipped back to Hasbro or held for later.
Do you think this rumor has any merit?
I think the costs of shipping items back would be prohibitive and that stores are unlikely to allow stale stock to take up space in their storerooms. However, there is now reduced interest in the product.
Will the stores that have the product still put it on the shelves at this time?

In short, no way.
Hasbro may not send out more product until the movie once this stuff sells through, but there is simply no way that every Target/TRU/Wal-Mart/K Mart, etc. etc. is going to mail back one case of figures or one case of vehicles. They will sell through what they have over the next couple of months with Roadblock, Duke, SE, and SS peg warming for a bit (like they already are in some places), and that will likely be the end of it for a while.

10. Keep posts in the appropriate forum.
For example, don't post a topic about the toys you bought this morning in General Discussion, that sort of thing.
- As this isn't news and/or rumor, it's been moved to the appropriate forum.

Thank you. I was unsure of where to place this. It is a news-story based discussion, but it is about finding the toys specifically.

the distribution chain works like this:
Hasbro ships to US in cargo container, cargo container loaded onto truck, truck goes to (Target Walmart Toys R Us) Distribution center, Distribution center uses (Target Walmart Toys Rus) trucks to ship to stores.
Those trucks make return trips to the Distribution Center every week for a new load, when they go back they take a 90 percent empty trailer other than the merchandise sent back for salvage and possibly some pallets.
(Target Walmart Toys R Us) tosses unopened cases on the returning truck, and since it was going back to the DC anyway, it does not cost them anything to ship it back, then the DC will load up all the boxes onto pallets,(and will probably get re-imbursed by Hasbro for labor) call Hasbro and Hasbro sends a truck (line hauler probably) to pick everything up.
If anything it is Hasbro who will pay a bunch for a recall.

No worries, WJW. To chime in on your topic, T.I.C. hit the nail right on the head. Wave 1 has become available at most "big box" retailers, along with most online shops.

Tough to say. If you have a Manager that sticks to their instructions, then product will be shipped back. However, I agree with T.I.C. that it'll be doubtful that retailers will actually ship back product that's already in their store room and/or on shelves. They'll more than likely sell through whatever product has been received and cancel/return any pending shipments.

Indeed. With the position that this scenario is already putting Hasbro in, I doubt that they would insist that the retailers pick up the tab, especially when they have 40' trailers completing milk runs from DC's back to storefronts.

The stores would not want to sit on the merchandise in their Distribution Centers for 9 months either because they are paying interest on the merchandise.

Thank you for the detailed explanation of the supply chain. I can only hope that the store managers in my area decide to put the stock on the shelves.

So Hasbro distribution is something like this then.

First thing that poped in my mind when I thought of Hasbro.

Just got a set of 9 at Target. I literally was hunted in store. I tricked a stock boy into selling them. The manager found me at the register and went off on everyone. I had just swiped my card. She wanted the figures back. She stated they had to returned to Hasbro. I told her they were mine since I paid for them. She had to conceed. I bet every will be told no more pulls from the stockroom.

I plan to try that with the stores I visit. Maybe I will get lucky. I am glad you got your set.
I bought two of the Cobra troopers but I plan on upgrading them with Viper's vests and some marauder assault rifles as the figure itself is good minus the silly blue and supersoacker water gun. I also got Zartan and Storm Shadow and the Cobra Hiss.

If you can find figures, I'd advise picking up this weeks Toys R Us sales ad to carry around. It has Buy 1, Get 1 50% off on GIJoe(Retaliation Duke shown in ad), Star Wars, and Marvel action figures. I got TRU to honor it on the 3pks as well but they wouldn't do the vehicles. Target and Walmart do price match if you have the ad.

I stopped by a Target today whose pegs, once reserved for Retaliation, now have Halo price labels.
I bought one of every carded figure at Walmart but I would have liked to have found the black CC and tan trooper now it looks like everything Joe is gone in my area.

With the new reports on HISS Tank and GeneralsJoes (and others), it looks like Wave 1 will hit the shelves as planned. Maybe we'll even get Wave 2 as well.
I found what looked like the remains of 2-3 cases of Wave 1 figures at my local Wal-Mart.
Happy hunting to all.
