Cause I saw it and it wassnt bad! I mean it wassnt gonna be spectacular, its based on a board game for fok's sake! But it was entertaining.

I dont know if Paramount was dumb enough to think it was gonna earn them Transformer's style money but it was not a bad movie. Maybe I'm just a big softy for AC/DC sountracks.

Any one else here enjoyed it?

Battleship has to battle the fact that most people see it that way- as a potentially stupid movie because it's based on a board game. Now flip to GI Joe. Most people see it the same way because it's based on a child's action figure.

But they didn't have those expectations of Transformers, Batman, Spiderman or any other comic/cartoon/toy venture?

Well so is Transformers but that did well. And despite whatever Battleship's origin is, the movie was fun as hell. It had surprisingly good comedy. The action was.....well......actioney....???
The alien ships looked alien as hell (not the James Cameron approach of "just add two more legs, paint it blue and its an alien horse") The story was as good as can be asked and they didnt even have any obnoxious plot holes like the Transformers movies do.

My point is that maybe Paramount expected too much. The movie was good. But its getting slapped around for not being legendary!

or at least I thought it was good.

Spiderman and Batman have a history of movies and cartoon tie ins. The average person can overlook the fact that they're comic based because they're so well known. As for Transformers it is toy based. However the movie previews looked awesome. Cars that turn into giant robots? That's enough to attract anyone. GI Joe just looks like an other average action movie. There's nothing in the previews that makes it stand out. Battleship looks like...well honestly I have no clue. From the trailers I honestly don't know what the movie is supposed to be.

Roger Ebert said it wasn't very good, but it was better than all the Transformers movies.

Roger Ebert is 70 years old and doesn't have a clue what people outside his age group is interested in. The fact he is still giving movie reviews is laughable.

It'd be no different than asking my grandpa to grade rap (or metal, or modern day pop)music because he was a professional musician 50 years ago.

saw the movie with the family. we all liked it. corny at points, sure. great summer entertainment, sure. it was worth the admission cost in my opinion, which i can't say several others were. i don't try to pick movies apart and for the most part enjoy them for entertainment. i enjoyed battleship more than ROC.

It always amazes me that one movie critic reviews all genres.. UK critic Barry Norman has openly stated he doesn't like horror films, yet he always reviewed them on his show! When Phantasm 2 was released he admitted (with some pride, it seemed) that he "didn't even know there was a 'Phantasm 1'"...? Classical music experts don't review rock, rock lovers don't review rap, so why are movies never divided up like this?

On topic, I plan to watch Battleship on Blu-Ray when it comes out... Not because of it's 'poor' performance or perceived lack of quality: It's just that I just don't get any pleasure from going to the cinema any more.

Holy smokes I really hated those movie review shows back in the day thank god for the internet I respect actual movie goers opinions over those arm chair critics
