I just saw John Carter movie yesterday. In my opinion the movie was good and deserved some toys. Can't quite understand why we didn't see some, as far as what I could research we won't see any at least in the 4'' - 6'' scales which is bad.
Maybe it is because of the Avengers and the competition is high but we we've seen toy lines before for movies which I couldn't understand the reason for.
Golden Compass is the first that pops out in my mind although we have lots of characters I don't see kids playing with them. They were not action figures.
Second is the Avatar, its more or less the same deal with a bit more action still not so many characters to go with except the main three besides it so dam kid focused so it was doomed to misery.
The one that is more close to John Carter is the Prince of Persia, and its also from Disney. It was not a good line, but from my point of view mostly because there were not so many characters to go with or at least they didn't focus on them. We never saw a princess, brothers etc... all they did was a couple of bad guys which were not the main ones even and several versions of the Prince.
Anyway I'm guessing Disney remembered the failure and just decided to to risk it but I see lots of characters and even vehicles that could be made, John, Princess, bad guy, green guys, etc...
Just and heads up since we won't see any toys for sure specially with so many toys out there but its not understandable how Spider Man get their on toy line which has been running already over the past years either on their own or with MU and other concepts don't get any.
Given that John Carter has become synonymous with box office failure, I doubt it.
Triad Toys did this, but it's not a movie tie-in:
JOHN CARTER OF MARS 12 INCH FIGURE 1/6 SCALE (http://www.triadtoys.com/Licenses/John+Carter+of+Mars/JOHN+CARTER+12+INCH+FIGURE.html)

Just out of curiosity, who's the bigger moron? Someone who says something stupid or someone who repeats something stupid?
John Carter made some $270 million. If there were to be toys they would have been released prior to the movie launch.
Disney never made any deals for wide scale product tie-in. So no we won't be seeing any toys. Too bad because some 5-6 inch tall Tharks would have been cool.

Just not with the movie-specific designs.
There actually was an "adventure heroes" (or something like that) line back in the 90's that had John Carter and Tarzan all wrapped together in one line. From what I can recall they were pretty crappy, though.

Was that $270M gross or net? The movie cost over $250M to make.

The closest you can get, really, is this unofficial Taylor Kitsch head sculpt Hot Toys did (12").

It wouldn't be bad for a custom John Carter. It's a shame the movie did poorly, and there were no toys, I thought it was a fantastic movie. I'm going to buy it sometime soon.

You wanna see something? Go stand over by that hole in the bathroom wall. Something will come out of there real soon.

If toys were coming for the movie we would have seen them by now. The movie was decent, not something I would buy but it was worth watching in the theater, I am surprised it was a flop here. Would have been cool to at least a figure by NECA.

Ye I guess we won't see any toys at least 4'' or related scale. Its a dam shame because I think it had some cool characters to be made.

Agreed. John Carter was an enjoyable movie. It's a shame it didn't do very well in theatres. Perhaps in a few years someone else will resurrect the property and figures will be made. We'll have to wait and see.

I'd rather see a "traditional" Dejah Thoris Statue...an over 17 version.. :)
Based on Frank Cho or Art Adams artwork....

I have the Tirad Toys John Carter, I wonder if the head would fit that body.
Oh and Just for the record the Triad Toy's JC is really well made and worth the price although the head reminds me of Michael Rennie.

a $275 million movie, according to Disney, that took in just $271 million at the worldwide box office -- From this article
Despite 'John Carter,' Disney Beats Quarterly Earnings Expectations - The Hollywood Reporter (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/disney-quarterly-earnings-expectations-321661)
From the wording of it $271 million sounds like gross.

I hope there's a sequel. I LOVED the movie. and it got me interested in ERB's works.
Now I'm trying to hunt down the Trendmasters figures.
really kicking myself for not picking them up when they first came out.

The movie bombed. You guys aren't factoring the marketing which may have been close to another $100 million. Or the fact that theaters get a cut of ticket sales. John Carter was not profitable, no matter how much some people want to spin the numbers. It's only hope is longterm video revenue which isn't what it used to be.
I thought the movie was mediocre at best. Like a big budget version of one of those syndicated, fantasy shows like Beastmaster. Boring lead, not-so-alien landscapes, choppy story, lackluster-if-not-bad production design. You can't make the only distinguishing feature between the good guys and the bad guys be the color cape they're wearing. That's just sloppy.

The effects of the movie were ok, did think the ships looked awesome, but the movie was pretty bad overall.
Disney has said there will be no sequel and that the film a pretty big black mark on it, suprizing when you consider this film was in pre-production hell for 79 years, you'd think more thought would have gone into it (or maybe by that point too much thought had gone into it).

nah man, its that SW and all the other Sci Fi epics already borrowed from John Carter, so what we see now in a John Carter movie just seems like repeated stuff.
I personally loved the movie, and do hope for a sequel.
or a TV show. I'd settle for a huge maxi series of Princess of Mars and so on.
I dont need a series of figures, just John, Dejah, and Tars Tarkas.
and not even movie figure, if I could afford the Triad Toys John Carter, I'd totally buy it.

I've seen recent toys looking 100x worse, not that I consider these bad in fact I think the heads are very good and the paint apps just lacking articulation. Hello those Retaliation driver figures suck much more.

Jeez, why did toys regress so bad in the 90's? The 80s was full of awesomeness and the 90's everything sucked !

in the 90s, companies focused on the 5 inch scale.
I think the typical 5 point articulation came about because companies wanted to be able to include vehicles and playsets too.
Trendmasters, the makers of the toys above included sound effects and mission disks that can be played on the comp.
so even though theres limited movable parts, they made up for it with other cool stuff.
It wasnt til the 2000s that the super articulated figures come about. Started by Toybiz.
I personally love the figures above. For the nostalgia.

I bought all those figures when they were released (been a fan of JC since about 5th grade) and they were actually pretty bad even for the time they came out- at least compared to the early toybiz efforts and the Star Wars stuff coming out at the same time. these were a big disappointment for someone that had been waiting years for JC toys. The best product they did in the series were the Mars mini playsets with tiny figures and little opening 'micro-machine' action features. It was nice having at least 'something' john carter- but man these really sucked (even though getting a figure of the 'crab head' aliens that cut off their opponents heads and rode around on their bodies... THAT was pretty cool at least
