Isn't it a bit interesting that they were having all these difficulties getting registration going when it seems kinda obvious they were waiting on news of the movie delay since they went live the next day.

Is there any way we could keep a running tally of who orders the con set and the bagged sets? I know it wouldn't be exact, but it could give us a bit of an idea of what's left over for us non-attendees.

I think you should just not worry about it today. There's going to be a ton of people posting in this thread that they registered, as always happens the first day, but I doubt it will end up being for all 600 sets. But it's going to look like they're all going to sell out, even if it's just like half the sets gone.
What I would like to know from the Club rep is when they will make the determination about whether to offer the nonattendee sets and if they do decide to, when that option will be made available.

Yo... I was having the same issue... well a similar one. Try closing all your windows (on your computer not at your house). Then open the site in one window and log in through the main log in. Then open another window and go through the registration page on the con site. do the captcha and just hit ENTER don't click anything. Then it should bring up the log in for registration. I can't tell you that me doing this is why it worked... but it did work. Because I was being told I wasn't an active member and it was telling Roshan the same thing. But then it fixed itself. But it DID not take my customizing class purchase. Oh well.
Not sure about that glitch.

Because people who are attending get priority since they are ATTENDING the CONVENTION.
It's the same reason you don't get to buy SDCC Zaranas at the same time as people on lines in California.

You "Pay your fee" for a magazine and access to the Club's discount, and if you want to be honest a roundabout purchase of a 'free' figure.
Nowhere in their membership fee breakdown does it state "equal standing among all members during convention-related exclusive purchases." If that was their business perspective they wouldn't have invented a Golden Ticket.
There IS stratification here. We are not all equal. Don't play dumb.

Unless you have the exact math on where that money goes and how and when... that's pretty speculative. Between the newsletter, payroll, the free figures, the website, the non-con product... once you get into t-shirts and con sets and designers being paid and advertising and hotel etc... I think it might come down to non-attending members pay for what they get (ie mag and free fig) and attending members pay for what they get. Imagine if they put it all up at once and people who were attending didn't get aCONVENTION set. (KEY WORD THERE... CONVENTION).
bluesparrow
05-24-2012, 02:24 PM
I don't like the nonattendee situation at all. I renewed my membership specifically to be able to buy this nonattendee set. There is no club store as we speak(with products to buy, anyway), and I have yet to receive a new copy of the magazine since renewing. So those are non issues from my perspective. It's a bit grating to see people who hated the set getting it ahead of me, when I really liked it.
That said I do agree it's fair the attendees get first dibs, but only because it's so close to the convention and they need to know whether they're getting in before they make their travel arrangements.
The short notice timing of the registration is 100% the Club's fault, though, so I hope they make up for it by not delaying the non-attendee registration too long.

I don't think the name calling is necessary.
I think the issue non-attendees are having is the change in attitude from the club for those of us who can't afford the time, or money to actually get to go to the convention. Yes, the toys are made for the show, but for as long as I've been a part of the club at least, they have always offered a Homefront Heroes package to those who can't make it. It's how they made us all feel part of the event even when we couldn't be there.
Now we're being put in a corner and told to wait until they feel like letting us in, or until they sell out. There's nothing wrong with feeling a bit put out by this.
And no one is saying that any attendee should go without, so that I can have a set. The true solution should have been to make enough sets for everyone in the club who is interested. They increased the sets to 600 this year, so maybe that's enough, but I don't know. It just sucks to be told to wait.

I disagree. People actually going to the con should always have preference when it comes to getting the CON exclusives. I'm not even going to Joe con this year, but I would feel bad if I got a non attending set while someone else that was actually going to go to the con missed out. I am going to SDCC, and I would be pissed if HTS sold out of all the exclusives before I had a chance to get them. A big part of the fun of going to a con is getting the exclusives. Taking that out of it would really hurt the experience.

I remember when the club first started the Homefront Hero package and how outraged we all were it would take them a MONTH to send us our package. How DARE they take so long to send me my premium priced repainted Joes!
I see both points of view, really I do. I see the non-attendee angst. I also know that one year there were NO sets on hand for 12" collectors and the uproar that caused. I am often cited as a club apologist, but let's let them get their legs under them before getting all worked up. I don't think these will sell out today, tomorrow or even this week. There are 600, more than last year. That is a big number of sets. Joe collectors are CHEAP, I don't know 600 of you willing to drop $345 right this very second. I know patience is short on the menu. Settle down...I really believe everyone will be taken care of eventually.

But you're NOT part of the event if you're not there. <: [ That's like saying the civilian population of America is fighting the war in Iraq because they put a yellow ribbon on a wall. That's a nice FEELING, but an adult knows it's not true.
I'm not saying Non-attendees don't deserve anything. I've not attended before! But the idea is to ask WHY attendees get first crack is a foolish inquiry. We all know why. We CONSTANTLY say "Members should get first chance to buy the yearly exclusive figure!" or whatever when the Club puts something up and it's available across the board. And that's true! This is just a finer example of that sentiment.

The thing is, I'm sure the club would love to make enough for everybody, but it's really hard to predict stuff like this. My guess is that there will be enough leftovers for the home front hero packages to go through since I doubt there really are 600 people willing to travel and pay that much. However, just to be on the safe side, I don't see any problem making sure they have enough sets for people that want to go to the convention.

I got mine done right after they went up #__68. Still need to take care of my booth and a couple of odds and ends, but that can happen in a week or so. Did manage to get a "gamer medium" t-shirt this year...that was cool as they usually sell out immediately, as well as the customizing class.
Be sure that you read through the attendee terms and conditions, as this is kind of a new thing, and there ARE some terms that everyone needs to be aware of. Some of the rules seem a bit nebulous.
On a class related note, made arrangements with the club to hand out a bag of a few heads and whatnot to each class attendee to provide a bit more creative latitude this year for everyone.

I hope there is some way that more spots can be opened up for the customizing class. I have attended it for the past couple of years and absolutely love it, but I apparently wasn't quick enough today. If they hold it in a room the size of the one used for the class last year, space shouldn't be a problem. :)

With respect, It's not the same. We pay our membership fee just like you do. Just because you can go to the Con doesn't mean us non attendings aren't helping you keep a Con to go to with our purchasing of the sets.
You continue to misunderstand. The entire point of Hasbro licensing Fub Publications for the GI JOE club is to a) operating a club encouraging people in various ways to join it, and b) operating a convention that fans physically, socially attend. Therefore, their marketing an efforts re: the convention will be oriented first and foremost to encourage or dare I say coerce fans into attending. If you cannot attend, that is unfortunate, but keep in mind that you are not the primary target audience in this whole endeavor from Hasbro's persspective. No point in being naive about it.

Dear club
The timer for completing registration is unrealistic for low bandwidth users. Registering while deployed forced me to pass on t-shirts and hats, etc... since the clock is ticking no matter how long it takes for each page to open and I have no idea how many pages it would take.
Oh yeah - I never found a place to list special needs like allergies. although I checked a block.
I was able to register though. Golden Tickets were gone.

Be sure you pass that criticizm along to them. The process went pretty okay for a brand new thing that I was not familiar with, but I thought that things were a bit clunky.
A suggestion would be to add the pull down tabs under each item description instead of clustering them at the bottom of the page to navigate. Less confusion that way.
Also, ran up against the timer issue as well. Just managed to get all the pertinent info typed in on each page, and then the payment info. Another thing that should be addressed...instead of picking from a pull down tab what card you have (Amex, MC, Visa) the first four digits dictate what the card is. Software should recognize that, because it sure notes it if it's wrong.

how many of 1 item were the golden ticket holders able to purchase last year?
Regular package attendees are limited to 1 per person (not per badge as in the past) until Saturday morning.
Golden Ticket attendees are limited to 3 per person (not per badge) until Saturday morning.
One thing I noted in the terms, a regular attendee can buy up to 4 aides badges, but a GT attendee can buy only one.
If you purchase multiple box sets this year, instead of getting one badge per set (as in the past), you only get one badge period.

I talked the the Club and you only get one badge per physical person you've paid for that is attending. So if you got 3 packages under your name... you only get one badge but if you got 3 packages under 3 different attending names... you get 3 badges.

GT started last year and was $300 extra last year too. I always used to pay more for my set at con back in 2003-2007 or so since I would register for con and the club each year the day of the show. Because we never had to worry about sellouts back then. But even then, yea it was like $250 max for a year sub and a set with tax.

I would not have the exact math because I'm not in the know. Right Gyre? Don't worry, minions will be nibbling your feet at the con in no time.

i know there is a lot of "Fuck you, if you don't go to the con you don't deserve shit" being thrown around, but honestly, it is really going to suck if the sets sell out before non-attendees can get do homefront hero registration. I can think of several military guys I know who rely on their family to get HH packages if they are deployed as well as a couple others that travel a lot for their jobs and can't make every con. While you guys are making your gleeful "tee hee there are 85 sets left tee hee" posts, (looking at you Tom) have a little fucking consideration. Hell, I'm not going either, my only shot at buying a set myself will be as a non-attendee, and I won't be happy if there aren't any left. This is making people mad because it is new, normally people all have a shot at the same time, and that is how it has been for 10 cons of ARAH sets.
So, you get the set, you get to go, good for you. There's no reason to be a dick to the people who are missing out on the con and were hoping to still get a set.

I really feel your pain, because it's the same scenario with the San Diego stuff every year where HTS screws us over, and those of us who can't attend SDCC end up paying absolutely ridiculous amounts of money for them on ebay, and for some reason Hasbro keeps adding more and more exclusives every year, making it even harder (SDCC has 4 figures and a vehicle this year). As far as JoeCon goes though, I would take heart, because I really think a lot of people are just talking crap, nowhere during the registration process did I see a single mention of how many sets remained for sale, and the ONLY thing you could maybe go by is the invoice number, this has never been a problem in the past though, and with club membership at the lowest it's likely been in years, I still suspect that if the people that want the non-attending sets are on the ball you should be able to get one when they first go up for sale. Even if you add up everyone that's posted in this thread there would still be hundreds of sets left right now.

Lowest it's been in years...? Really? No one wanted that Footloose then? Because that's kinda what people would register for.
And if you can't afford con and then have to pay a high secondary market cost, you shouldn't really be complaining too much... I'm GUESSING you've never attended Conventions that aren't close to home if so. My plane ticket this year was rather cheap, only $500... My hotel cost is rather cheap, only $140 (because it's split between several people)... That's JoeCon on top of Con set-cost...
SDCC, Hotel is $250 plus, since it's only a short flight for me, Bay Area to San Diego, the flight's only $255... SDCC Registration, don't even remember the cost, but I do believe it was over $200... And even then, there's no guarantee I'll get the TOY that I want.
SDCC 2011, MOC/MISB collector that I am had to go to E-bay to pay the inflated price for the Starscream Skystriker and I was even at the show. So forgive me if I think any and all of the whining about whether or not sets sell out before non-attendees can register means anything.
(On a side note: It's too bad you guys don't know how to read the news when it's available where they said they are holding a certain number of sets for non-attendees, and this whining would be a moot point.)
-Kevin "confirmed asshole"
Rather presumptious on all-points.
It has nothing to do with people not wanting Footloose, it has to do with them having no faith in the club after having their accounts wiped out due to the club's poor online security.
I live in Florida and am flying to NOLA for this con, I too had to buy a plane ticket, a hotel, a rental car, and the con registration just like everyone else. I've been to MANY cons in my life. So I hardly see how me having empathy for fellow collectors who wish to own these exclusives makes me a complainer.
I think it's complete bullshit that every year there are somewhere around 20-40 exclusive figures from JoeCon, SDCC, GIJCC, etc. that all cost in the range of $40 or more each, and because some collectors have real lives and responsibilities that prohibit them from being able to fly all over the country spending thousands of dollars and taking time off work just to go to the events they are available at, now means they should have to pay in some cases double or triple what said items cost at their respective events.

I think you misunderstood me. I AM going to the con, what would that say about me?! ;-)
What I meant is that, people that are currently telling the non-attenders "boo-hoo that's what you get for not going" need to consider that some people may still be just as big of a fan as they are and still want the figures just as much, but for whatever reason, work, family, money, etc. may have "real lives or responsibilities" that get in the way of them being able to attend. So I don't think people that do have the luxury of attending should be rubbing it in the face of non-attendees who are currently stressing over whether there will be any left for them or not, that's all.

-Kevin "confirmed protector of the pompous"
I agree with this, and DO buy a lot of SDCC and JoeCon items on the secondary market myself, I just feel bad for those that can't attend for whatever reason that just because they couldn't be there a set they should have been able to buy for $350 from the club to have mailed to them (like every other year) is now gonna cost them $700 on ebay just because the club sold out early.

There is one sure fire way to fix this:
Make everyone stop paying stupid prices for items on ebay.
The only reason they actually sell for crazy money is because all the buyers actually pay that amount. Case in point are the DG figures. Sets have been regularly selling around $60-$80 lately, yet there are still a few auctions & BIN's that end over $100. If everyone would relax and possibly even put off having to have the newest figures right now, they may not sell for so much on the secondary market.
Besides, all of these exclusive show or convention figures are really supposed to just be a nifty memento of your time at said show or convention.

I agree with this statement, but it has happened every year for the 5 years I've been collecting. No way, everyone can just sit and wait for prices to drop. Too many collectors are impatiant.
I can understand non-attendees frustration. This is the 1st time they've split up the attendee and non-attendee, but it's only a month out and usually registration is up 4 or 5 months before.

$350+ for a set is one thing, but the $1500 or whatever it would take to go (plus the lost earnings from taking off work) is just out of the question. And I suspect eBay prices will be just silly for this.

Or course there's still hope. But if you're that worried about it, there's three sets at $450 on ebay right now on pre-sale. If the con sets sell out tomorrow, those will be replaced by $600 sets.

I'll be honest, I love my Joes and this years set is great. But, that isn't the main reason that I'm going to Con. I lived in NOLA for ten and a half years. My wife has only been there once in her life and she is beginning to understand my love for the city. There is do much history and culture there. Not to mention my wife just graduated her Master's program and we are stopping in N'awlins on our way to moving to KC for a job for her and I. So, it's also a celebration. Also, last year weet Duffman and his wife and our wives get along great. It's also cool to get together with people with the same passion as you.
