the Dollar General Joes Help Thread

Fellow tanker Steel hit it right on the head with this post,

Not to sound corny or cliche, but this is where being a "Community" makes all the difference.

With such diversity in location & demographic, it should be simple to have one thread set up where everyone places a reasonable request that others who are fortunate enough to have availability to the product can do their part to hook up someone in need.

Some of us have plenty of access, while others have none.

This would be easy to moderate and would help all parties involved. The "Seekers" could charge a minimal percentage for time and fuel but less than scalping prices as not to become a loss.

A structure like this would be easy to moderate and would set the tone for similar situations in the future.



Down here in Corpus Christi, Texas we have been blessed with an abundance of Dollar Generals. And also in talking with other members I have learned there are other locations that have an abundance of Dollar Generals too.


We are a community and we need to bring back the spirit of good will to it. We should be helping each other.

I have asked fellow tanker Steel and bassitcarlos to help me with the guide rules. But anyone who wants to help is more then welcome.

The way Im doing it is by looking at who has posted in here first and shows a valid need for them. My PM box is getting filled up to quickly, so instead of you sending a pm with your wants please post them here and I will pm you when your up. This helps me with the first come first serve thing and keeps things fair.

Here is a list of names of tankers who said they would be willing to help. Some of the members have specified that they are willing to trade.

Unless they specify to pm them please allow them to contact you first. This will keep tankers pm boxes from blowing up. :)

Here were some of the thoughts steel and I shared on the ground rules and were kicking around. Comments and thoughts please. I want to hear what the community thinks.


This would be on a first come/first serve set-up where those who have DG in abundance sell to those that have a need, for a set price determined by the community at large. As an example, say 5-10% mark up for time and fuel, as not to make this a loss for the good people "seeking" for others.

This special arrangement would be moderated by a select few members, to ensure that no scalpers were allowed to buy. This would be enforced by allowing only longtime members with a certain post count to take part. No throwaway accounts, only proven community oriented members.

The goal is to help create a Collector-Spirit that is missing from what we do here today.


Again please weigh in. Nothing is set in stone were just trying to get this running and in a smooth organized fashion.

If no other member has anything to say on the rules stated above then the rules will go into effect.

I work 3 pm to 12 am Mon-Friday, But I do a pretty good job of answering Pm's when I can at work. Also steel has mentioned he has very good access to the Tank at his work.


I have talked to BassitCarlos and he mentioned he will be helping with the cause too.

Case in point Trazz has been on the Tank since 2008. Now I am not sure if he has a feeback thread but something like that would help the giving tankers see if a seeking member is an oustanding member of the Tank. Just throwing ideals around.

Trazz the goal is to try to get these in the hands of tankers who need them but keep them away from scalpers. I know this is literally impossible to complete eliminate the risk, but we are trying to come up with a process to make that more doable. What do you think? What are your thoughts please?

Thank you for helping boast morale on the tank in the pay it forward thread. I love the thread but I am actually trying to keep this thread and that one separate. So I will not require a possible candidate for DG Joes to give stuff in that thread. I want people to play there because they want to give and have fun. Not because they want DG Joes.

See what I am doing, I'm trying to get guys who have been on since 2008 with less then 300 post to come out of there shells. :D

I'm not saying you have to have 40,000 post but it couldn't hurt to let the Tank get to know you better.

I'm going to stick to my 300 post minimum.

Feedback is just one factor it isn't everything.
Other providers of DG Joes may have other requirements.

I hope no one takes this personally..I was involved in several projects like this in the past and I saw solid community members get the backseat to others that were not loyal community members, which isn't fair.

Hey guys. My name is Sean and I have actually been helping Tankers get some Dollar Store Joes for the past couple of weeks. And I'm still in the process of doing just that. Last week after purchasing a few sets from a few Dollar General Stores I have a couple of the managers if they could make sure the GI Joes keep coming. Then they actually suggesting that I just tell them how many I need each week and they will be able to order them and hold them for me to pick up. I already have taken orders and my list is getting longer everyday but it's still not more than I can handle. Everyone so far has found that what I'm charging for shipped sets are reasonable and have been willing to pay just that. Here's the thread:

I am on here every day, and occasionaly post when I have something to say, but for the most part I just read a lot of what everyone else has to say. I'm lucky to have found the entire set last week, and have about 10 DGs within 30 minutes of me. I hit six of them today looking for additional Cobra Troopers. Alas, I didn't see any figures at any of the stores. I'm not working at the moment, so I have lots of time on my hands and would have happily offered to try to help procure these for those who need them. But since I don't post enough I guess I will just keep looking for troopers for myself instead.

That was just mine and steels requirement, its meant to keep scalpers from creating an account putting up a couple post grabbing stuff and taking off. It's not meant to offend anyone. I am not calling anyone a scalper by any means. I am simply trying to look out for the community. I figure over 300 post and for me at least being on the tank for a year, was pretty solid credentials. But I am starting to see there are a lot of folks who been on for a while who don't post that much. Also this has not been everyones requirement. Again this was not to offend anyone. My intentions are good.

Well looking at this thread, I feel it has good intentions but it may only help some on here. I have 1 dollar general in a 20 mile radius which is in los angeles area. I know there are lot of collectors going to this store. I would like to get a set for myself as well as fellow board members gunslingercbr and dashadow viper. Due to their locations I am actually closer to the store but can not check like others can do to work schedule. This thing about 300 posts should be change. I know its not a main criteria but it shouldn't be that high. Considering I have less but have been on here for a long time.

Your right, I have seen a lot on here. Don't post much though. Most of my posts are in the so cal sightings section. If u check the regular cali sightings on the first page u would see that I'm on there a lot at the early stages of the sightings. This was before the cali page was separated into regions. I was a member when the site had been taken over by spamers and had to be shut down and revamped. The site has gone through many changes over the years. The site exploded with new members in 07 because of all the 25th anniversary stuff. I still talking to so cal members u check the only local dg store hopefully they can come through for gunslingcbr, shadoviper and myself. If not I hope this thread can help us out.

Membership has it privelages: To be a part of this Mission, you must have been a member of HT for over 2 years, with a post count higher than 300. This may be subject to change, but it is the minimum I would suggest, as to ensure that the everyday contributing community gets their fair chance over new members, who are only here to get rather than to give. Throwaway accounts and anyone failing to follow these rules will be ejected from The Mission.

This part really doesn't make sense being that the boundry between "givers" and "takers" will almost exclusively depend on who has Dollar General stores in their area, not postcount and join date. I personally have no interest in the program as I only somewhat desire two figures that I'm bound to find sooner or later. Shipping charges only appeal when I really want a figure and can package them with several other things

I new to the hiss tank but I think there has gotta be some trust that the number of posts and length of membership is not a gauge of how or what im gonna do with them. I got bunked on the renegades storm shadow and it looks like this DG stormy is just as good for me. If you are willing to help a pacific northwest die hard Gijoe fan that would be great, otherwise I'm gonna haft a hit up eBay and pay what I think is reasonable in the scalper world.

For me this thread works as the list and I am looking at who has posted there wants in here first, so first post first serve. I added the names of the people who have the joes or are willing to help on post two on the first page. I am currently out but I will be doing some more hunting this week.

Other tankers who said they will help may be running things differently then me. If your willing to do a little HW there are some tankers with the Joes that have posted their information in this thread with the details.

The goal is to have tankers who have the joes meet up with tankers who need them and at a fair price help those who are without. The second goal is to help create a sprite of comradery in the Tank.

I just want to reiterate and clarify some of the Mission Objectives here for everyone that might have questions, concerns or overall curiousity.

This Project is our answer to some of the difficulties and adversity we ALL face as Collectors, at one time or another, with the hobby. While The Flavor of the Month today is Dollar General Joes, tomorrow it may be 35th Anniversary Joes or a cancelled line of Retaliation vehicles etc and so on.

For me, it's not just about getting the DG Product out..it's about the Mission itself and how we can create a set of parameters that will work for future applications. This is the Test.

We're a Community of Thousands, that really possess the collective buying power of an army. If this works, more people will want to join the Community and contribute so they can be a part of the system and reap the rewards.

In the end, when you set aside words like "Mission", "Collectors" and such it comes down to people helping people. Most of us have all ready helped someone else here with something, whether it is a product or maybe even advice.

Now, we're asking anyone that wants to do it to help us organize a specific movement which will hopefully be the first of many such Missions in the future.

This isn't about money...no one is making money off anyone else here. This is about Paying it Forward and helping the next guy.

The email from Hasbro specifically stated Dollar General and Family Dollar. I told them that I had no Dollar General and I asked if it was exlusive to that store chain because I don't have any in my area. I'll be shipping some sets from my PMs today. Plus, most of the DGs in my area just got shipments in and it takes time for them to go through all the totes to find everything. A couple of the managers took me to the back of their stores yesterday and damn!!! it was a freaking mess. So I have to be patient and let them sort thru everthing. They told me that they bring out all the household chemical and stuff first before the toys. So we will get to everyone ASAP. May not all be at the sametime but all requests are noted.

I have roughly 7-9 DGs in my area and I have been hitting them all routinely since the first post on the tank about these hitting hoping I would find these and be able to not only get a set myself but make them available to other tankers. None of my stores have gotten them, the employees look at me like I'm nuts when I ask. I brought the box picture and upc barcodes as well as product pictures to show what I'm looking for. Each store has told me they don't carry them and wont be carrying them and they keep telling me only the bigger DGs carry them. So is there some threshold size for a store or space that determines which stores get these? I've spent a lot of time and gas with no return yet and I'd like to know if I am just wasting my time.

I talked to a manager at a DG and this is what she told me when the case sells she orders another one, shipments usually show up Friday or Saturday. I'm not sure if this is the whole chain or just how she's does it.

Today was a very exciting day, I found another case of DG Joes. Ok here is the rules on this case. I will be doing 2 figures per tanker. I will be going down the list. The other thing is I need the money asap. I get paid on the 31 so I wrote a hot check for the figures. I will be providing pictures of the haul as proof and my feedback speaks for its self. Figures will be shipped on Tuesday when the post office is open.

I paid 7 after tax so I will be asking 8 for them, they extra dollar covers gas, time and packaging. Allow me to pm you first. I will then ask for your address to get you the cost of actual shipping.


Also I scored a contact at my local DG. I talked to a very nice manager her name was Elga. After explaining the cause and that I wasn't a scalper she agreed to order me a case a week. So as long as you guys keep buying them I will keep grabbing them. I have my set so now everything I grab is to help you guys out.

there are two list one with the names of the tankers who are willing to help and the other list is the names of the tankers who need help. The list is updated by Steel. He puts names in the order of who posted there needs first and if they qualify for help. we look at how you have contributed to the community, standing in the community, how long you have been on. Feedback and the need demonstrated by the Tanker. Not having a DG is a high priority and then so on and so on. The goal is to make this fair and help boost camaraderie and the spirit of goodwill on the Tank.

I have made a relatively strong connection with manager of the Portland, Texas Dollar General. I can get a fresh case of the DG G. I. Joes every week to 2 weeks.

I will gladly mail figures to fellow collectors for around $8 per figure plus postage. The price includes the cost of the figure, basic shipping packaging, and a small fuel/time offset.

I will gladly exchange figures for trade items. Right now, I am looking for 2 Renegades Storm Shadows (single-packs) and the Retaliation figures.

I do not meet the 300 post requirement, but I have been on the Tank since Feb 2009. DaveViper can confirm that I am solid member and not just a scalper.

I could probably help some fellow Tankers out, but the thing is most want the figures for $6 a piece. They want whoever finds them to eat the cost of packing and shipping them.

My "kindness" caused me to sit on some of the earlier POC figures and "Ross exclusives" for far too long because retail price was fair, but reimbursement for packaging and shipping wasn't, even if it was exactly what I paid.

So far I have had no complaints I charge 8 a fig, they sell for 6 add 6.25% tax and your almost at 7. I add a dollar for gas, time and packaging. Shipping is actual cost. Bubble mailers cost 99 cents a little more for the bigger ones I use to ship multiple figures. So I am not making an profit.

I drove over 110 miles to Bakersfield, CA on Friday to see Morrissey in concert and I visited their three Dollar General stores. At the first one, there weren't any Joes. I asked an employee there, explaining that I'd driven up from Los Angeles. She was very kind and checked the back, but they had nothing. She then offered, since she was leaving work, to let me follow her to another DG that was across town, so I did. When I got there, this DG had one each of SE, CC, and SW. The girl then went to find a friend who worked in the back to see if there were more, so I could complete the set. There weren't, but I was directed to another DG. No luck there. The employee mentioned that they only order the Joes after they have sold out and they only order a set at a time.

Ultimately, the concert was outstanding (the best of the 8 times I've seen him) and the $40 spent in gas for the round trip was not horrible, considering that I combined both the show and the search. The girl said that Dollar General is expanding throughout California, with the regional management office already located in Orange County. These store will be in the Los Angeles area soon, she claimed. Will they be soon enough to make it in time to provide these Joes or their impending variants? Time will tell...

Until then, I still need a CT, SS, and DK, if anyone can help. I can pay or trade.

there are two list one with the names of the tankers who are willing to help and the other list is the names of the tankers who need help. The list is updated by Steel. He puts names in the order of who posted there needs first and if they qualify for help. we look at how you have contributed to the community, standing in the community, how long you have been on. Feedback and the need demonstrated by the Tanker. Not having a DG is a high priority and then so on and so on. The goal is to make this fair and help boost camaraderie and the spirit of goodwill on the Tank.

First off, I applaud this effort by real joe fans. WOW, I wish this operation were made when I first started to collect again.

I too have been a long time visitor, and used to help out a lot of the collectors at the conventions as well as locally. I know the whole 300 post rules, but if by chance anyone can get me a set, I would appreciate it. If not I am more than willing to help find these is So. California (if they ever come this way), here is hoping that Ross gets these then I am sure more people can help fellow collectors out there. i really hope there's truth to this. my area has more family dollars than dollar general. i still haven't found any in the wild, aside from the ones my customer found and traded with me for. i talked to my DG manager, and she's still saying they're in transit... not sure if she knows what she's talking about or not.

I checked this morning and my case hasn't show up yet. There is one truck that comes on Saturday/Sunday to make deliveries to the local stores. I will start with the store that I ordered the case with and check other stores as well. So I can hopefully help multiple tankers. I am not a scalper. Minnesota has only a few DG's and none have the joes. I will not be able get help from this awesome community and will have to be subject to the scalpers this thread is trying to prevent.
