I just picked it up tonight. Been playing for about an hour. So far it's pretty bad ass. Lots of running and gunning, gorgeous graphics and a good storyline. I picked mine up at Target and it included a free copy of Grand Theft Auto 4 so that's always a plus. Anyone else picked it up yet?

I heard it gets insanely super hard though towards the end. I LOVED Max Payne 2, but that was when bullet time was all new and shiny... and not too keen on what direction Rockstar took with the Max Payne character.

Bullet time is pretty good this time around. The game has the most realistic bullet damage I've ever seen. Each bullet tears through the characters as realistically as I could ever imagine. When they are hit, you see exactly where each one has connected by the spurt of blood and bullet holes through their clothes. When you kill the last person in a section, bullet time kicks in and zooms in on the enemy. It shows the bullets tearing through the clothes and flesh in slow motion. The more you fire, the more you hit the target as he is falling to the ground. It's actually pretty damn graphic watching multiple bullets shred a body, sometimes blowing holes in the torso or blowing their jaws off.
As for the game itself it's superb. It is pretty difficult (and I'm playing on the easiest setting :) ). The story takes place in Brazil (with the occasional flashback to Jersey). Max has taken a job as a bodyguard for a wealthy family. Of course shit hits the fan and Max is thrown into a crazy plot and Max has to take up arms in classic Max Payne fashion. Max is living in a shit hole apartment, mostly drinking and popping pills to pass the time. Max reminds me of Bruce Willis' character from Sin City- old and possibly washed up but still doing what he feels is right, all while cracking great one liners. But once the missions start Max is back to his old ass kicking self. The levels look great, varying from bars to boat yards to Brazilian neighborhoods. The amount of details in the backgrounds and environments is great. Shoot a window and it shatters, shoot a wooden fence and watch it splinter into thousands of pieces.
If you're a Max Payne fan this is a must have. If you're looking for a great game with a very involving story, this is a must have. The controls are a bit goofy at first but aren't bad when you get used to them. But that's really the only complaint. I highly recommend grabbing this game.

It's a cool game! I think it's a G.O.T.Y contender. Good story. Great action throughout. The voice acting is some of the best I have ever heard, in any game, ever! And it's consistant throughout, as is the action. The bullet time is ace, and the way the bullet hit the targets is satisfying, especially slow mo head shots. The multiplayer is enjoyable too. I think its got great replay value because of collectibles and things you may not have noticed on your first play through. And yes, it's hard! But well worth it :-D
