At first I thought, "Oh wow, they have faceplates! Vipers!" Then I leaned in closer and realized their faces are just painted. Still looks badass.

I'm still hopeful we see some troopers with covered faces though. That's one of the coolest hallmarks of the Cobra soldier, after all.

Its like they have totally different toy sculptors for the Retaliation stuff. The POC people are working diligently on the Dollar General figures but somebody from Star Wars is handling the Retaliation.

I just don't get it too. In all of these new Cobra Commanders, NONE of them look like the movie likeness. Is it that hard to make a Commander figure look like the film likeness?

At least Taters head actually looks actor accurate for the first time in movie toy crossover history.

I thought they were Navy SEALS at first too. But, they have a Cobra insignia buried in the picture so all is hunky-dory and some change is perfectly acceptable apparently. And besides, it's not from Rise of Cobra so it's automatically the bestest thing ever!! CC has a faceplate so his character is a gazillion times better, and it's now perfectly acceptable that Firefly is using micro-robotic spy/sabotage "fireflies" despite the RoC nano-tech being "lame" and something that should be "erased"... You just have to step back and accept the contradictions from fans sometimes...

Of course, people may well construe this as an attack on the photo and Retaliation in general, but it ain't. I'm looking forward to the film as must as the next person... It's the fringe of fandom that has me scratching my head.

I could be wrong but I think those things on thier helmets are the attachment point for night vision goggles. And dang it, I wish the cobra trooper toys looked more like the troopers in the movie. The movie is going to rock and yet the toys are gonna be kinda...not so hot. Some them are pretty cool but still I don't see bright neon blue on those Troopers in the movie. oh well, it's for kids right ?

I really hope they re-release the Night Landing! That was one of my favorites as a kid. It's funny how they had some 100% realistic stuff (Night Landing, Checkpoint Alpha, Skystriker) right along side some truly ridiculous stuff (POGO Ball, Buzz Boar, Serpentor's Chariot), but somehow it all worked together.

Ahh your just really upset peeps like the way this movie looks more then RoC did lol...its ok you will get over that one day...I hated ROC (I got over it cause a better Joe movie on the way), glad its gone and done...cause the new GI JOE Movie is about to hit the big screen and its Bigger, better, meaner and more proud! Look at these cobra troopers...that looks badass...they are not some Stupid star wars wannabe storm turlde vipers...they look like Cobra Invasion Troopers. Also to your point about the nano tech, its not the fact they used nanomites, its the way they used them in ROC. The fireflies in this show are a perfect example of real world use for micro/nanon machines for spy purposes and targeting and marking troops on the move....not injecting them into everyone to control them like some kinda of mind control freak, needing super colliders to weaponize little green peach fuz so it can go eat the eiffel tower and everything in its path, and having them reconfigure peoepls faces form the inside out lamenessstuff.

I like that the lines on the helmet look like that of a Cobra Viper, and that if you look at the new movie helmet straight-on, it also mimics a Cobra emblem. Nice design touch.
