Looks like a 'pre-production' version as there are no markings (there are in the trailer) and the canopy appears to be missing (or not built of transparent material, at least). I guess the toy has tried it's best to emulate this design with regards to the turret and such, but other than that there's little resemblance.

Yeah, I think the turret looks like the toy. Not much else, like you say mate.

Since this version of the tank was out during POC, I'd say the movie is trying its best to reproduce the toy. Close as possible without resorting to a complete CG version.

I'm pretty sure the Director said as much - that Hasbro dictated what vehicles were to be in the movie. I think normally it works the other way around, but since Hasbro owns the property and Paramount probably didn't care that much ....
Having said that, you can definitely tell that it is trying to be a realistic version of the movie toy. I guess it needs to be said - most toys with "action features" won't work in the real world. A pop-up body doesn't make sense - this is how you get a RoC! This looks something like an autoloader tank that I saw a few years back that was operated by a single soldier.

Cool pic! And I dig the real-world design on the HISS...I was worried that there would only be a CG version, but I'm happy to see that they actually make a physical version.
And despite the gripes issued by some in this thread, sadly, the toy version, while not perfect, comes the closest to anything in the first wave to being movie-accurate.

I like it too. Some purists might hate it, but reproducing the classic 'brick' design might not have lent itself to swift, aggressive 'movie action'. Besides, with the turret lowered against the body it would look more 'traditional'.
I do boggle at how cool a toy that echoed this design would have been, though.
I wonder if this was also built by Howe and Howe like the Ripsaw. It's a neat design and looks like it has some carrying capability (wonder if they based it off an old M-113). Maybe if the movie does well enough, Hasbro will work on bringing a more accurate toy version to the masses.

Actually a pop up body. Does have a theoretical practical millitary purpose.
Rangefinding for Artilery strikes ,also Rolling the tank into a trench and elevating it so the tank can attack out of the hole. In theory this makes the tank less visible and less susceptible to personel operated Anti-Tank Grenade Launchers.

100%. Everytime I see that thing I think of a deleted scene from T:Salvation because it was too rediculous to use.
Im not a fan of that thing, even if its called a HISS. Not a HISS to me...

There was a big US design in the early 80's that looked ALOT like the mauler. The main gun popped right up.
It was dropped because it did not work with current military tactics. It would have been great during WWI, but our military tactics are all move while shooting when it comes to Armor now. A tank that sits still on the battlefield now, is a dead tank, even if just the gun pops up.

You do realize that's the Ripsaw built by Howe and Howe the newer version of which they're using in this film as the Tread Ripper right?
Also, the OP mentioned the cockpit not being attached. I'd be very surprised if they actually put a "glass" or clear canopy on this. I'd wager we're looking at the complete movie HISS there with a solid canopy like the PoC version.

It's neat looking and will probably work well in the film, but nothing about it says HISS to me. Say sorry.

I was going by the (admittedly very brief) scene in the trailer with the HISS in. I thought I could make out some kind of cockpit/canopy on the tank that was side on in the middle distance. But, it was very small and it may have just been some form of marking/paint work. I need to see hi-def screen caps of that scene but can't find any.

Yep, there you go. With thanks to Skinny for the cap link. If you click on the pic for full size, you get a very good view.

Tank on the far right is side on. Lots more surface detail on it, and clearly a canopy is visible (although whether it's clear or opaque is open to interpretation). The original pic I posted is almost certainly a prototype for the film.

hmm that picture from the trailer make it look like a modified AMTRAC. Be pretty cool if it turns out to have room to carry a few troops.

Prolly used for a placeholder for CG mapping in scenes, why it looks so bare, or a dummy vehicle for vehicles that dont appear up front that are CGIed.... They like to reduce construction costs by not applying paint apps and details till post production with computer wizardry...hey thats kinda like Hasbro does!

Close enough for this fanboy. I think it's awesome that they are incorporating more classic stuff. Better than hovering amorphous blobs shooting Geonosian sonic blast farts.
It's got the hallmarks of a HISS, and it's used as a Cobra tank in the movie. But has it been officially confirmed in any capacity that it is indeed a HISS tank? I'm not really being skeptical, merely curious. I certainly hope it is a HISS, and I'm sure Hasbro will call it a HISS if they release a toy of it.

Great find. Yeah - there's some extra plating there but the canopy still has the same silhouette so the earlier pic seems to be accurate in shape if not detail.
I also can't imagine they built more than one of these so maybe it is just for mapping the CGI and for occasional physical interaction.

I don't think anyone in an official capacity has posted this picture and declared "this is a movie HISS". It's entirely possible it won't be named in the film.
But, Cobra armour with sloped front, massive turret, black livery, wedge-shaped treads/chassis... I reckon it's inferred.

I'm fine with the design because I realized that last time around that this is not A Real American Hero G.I.Joe franchise. So it's all good IMO!

The way the turret seems to elevate gives me a Battle Force 2000 Pulverizer vibe. I like this version and as much as I like the look of the new HISS toy, a toy accurate rendition of this could be pretty sweet!
