Im not. Huge fan of the cartoon but this match up I always liked. Indian tracker vs ninja. This thought has dominated my play time since I finished both my custom spirit and renegade storm shadow. Anyone else get a kick out of this?

I can say that looking back, and from watching the series recently, it was a great match up.

I only had an issue with it because as a kid I always wanted him to fight SE. Truth is it's a really cool match up.
Even quick kick got to fight him but never SE.

They made snake eyes look like a retard after pyramid of darkness. they had him wearing wigs and purses and all types of wrong. He couldn't be taken serious cartoon wise. thank goodness for the comics version.

I always thought the Snake-Eyes vs. Stormshadow things was way over played. Snake-Eyes most logical arch rival was Firefly - isn't he sort of half ninja/half commando? I would have liked to have seen more of that.
As for Spirit, I don't know if he was really the best match for Storm Shadow. I would have liked to see him more as a tracker/pointman... maybe teamed with Recondo in the Jungle.

You're correct about Firefly. He was a Koga Ninja which was a rival to the Arashikage clan. Most people always wanted to see Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes duel it out on the cartoon even though they are considered blood brothers of the sword (they were both part of the same LRRP unit in Nam, and Tommy introduced Snake to the ninja clan). A logic face off would be Snake Eyes and FireFly; however, in the cartoon there was no mention of Firefly's ninja training. The comics are the best source of material for GI Joe...Larry Hama wrote epic stories that brought more life to GI joe characters than the cartoon did.

i think quick kick is the better enemy for storm shadow.
an indian vs a ninja, is one dead indian.
and yeah snake eyes and firefly are better suited routine rivals

I pretty much loved any scene in the Sunbow series that featured Stormshadow, but especially those where he battled Spirit or Quick Kick.

Yeah, I too love the time when Storm Shadow joined the Joes. I thought the Retaliation trailers suggested that it happened in the sequel, as well.

I like the idea of Firefly vs Snake Eyes, I'll use that. However, ever since i saw Spirit vs Storm Shadow, I've loved it. It's so unique.

There was also scarcely any mention of Firefly's "ninja training" in the comics. It wasn't until well late into the series that anything about Firefly being a ninja ever came about. I mean, am I crazy for thinking that there was never anything about Firefly being a ninja until Issue #126? By that time, I mean, how many people treat that as cannon? That was in the day of Eco-Warriors, DEF, and neon-green-body suit-Firefly. By that point the Sunbow series had been LONG over. So it's kinda "meh," (although later comic continuities have maintained and developed that aspect of Firefly's character, but you're talking about continuities that didn't come around until the early 2000s--not really something to base "What should Sunbow have done?" off of).

I agree. Snake Eyes wasn't given any "ninja" treatment in the Sunbow series; he was mostly just a grunt. So the Snake Eyes v. Storm Shadow angle would not have worked then. Quick Kick v. Storm Shadow was nice.
And while I enjoyed the ongoing rivalry between the two, the Spirit v. Storm Shadow dichotomy was based more on Honor v. Honor than an actual matching of martial arts prowess or warrior skills.

Spirit and storm Shadow at first glance it doesn't make for a good mix but sunbow made it work reasonably well, those are probably some of my more memorable moments of the sunbow cartoon. You have 2 diffrent spiritual men from diffrent cultural backgrounds which made for an interesting clash.
As to SS vs QK the scene in the ice always really bothered me, you have a full blown ninja who has been trained all his life in a traditional Ninjitsu dojo where he learnt the shadow arts againts a jackie chan body double who learnt karate. I didn't expect too much realism from a cartoon , but......C,MON!!!!
I always thought SS had the beating of SE too, not that they ever pitted the 2 against each other from my knowledge im reading the veritable ninja bible at the moment called Ninja shadow warrior by Joel Levy it gives a lot of insight into the Ninja's techniques and history I would recomend this book to all of you fellow ninja fans!

Stormy was a favorite even then, but I never understood why he was matched up against Spirit. Was there supposed to be a history between them or something? I don't recall any other secondary character, like Copperhead, Firefly, Scrap Iron, having a nemisis. (I guess there was Ace and Wild Weasel, though that's an obvious rivalry.)

Non of that ninja stuff for firefly as far as I am concerned. The best way I imagined Firefly was the way Bruce Willis was The Jackal.
