Wow, they are really sticking it to us this year. $345 for the box set, $210 for a bagged set, $300 for a golden ticket (only 75 of them) and a limit of three of each item with it?
I hate to imagine how much the increases on the other exclusives will be, should have budgeted for more, and then the FSS will start when, at the con or right after? They really do think joe fans are made of cash!
That being said, see you in New Orleans!

HAHA! It's was $305 last year. Considering figures have gone up $2-$3 a piece at retail, and extra $10 for the club's 15 seems like a bargain. I was fully expecting a $400 price tag this year. I was over the moon that it was only $315.

Uh, thats $315 for the 12" set, $345 for the Oktober Guard set, so increase of $30.....and only the low low price of $29 to see the Retaliation move, pay for the bus to get you there, and a "free" movie poster. I suppose not so bad.

There's a lot of reasons the price goes up. Oil making plastic more expensive, simple inflation, giving away a ” free” year of credit protection to users after your site was hacked and thousands of dollars were stolen from members. Stuff like that is bound to make the price increase the 30 bucks per box set.

Considering how late all this is, it's usually a Month or more... but they ussually have it up like 3-4months before Con... We're at something like 50 days....so I'd expect it to only be up for 1-2 weeks.

Well I'm not made of money this year so I will only be able to get the Box set. Just the flight for 2 alone doubles the amount of money I would spend at the collector club store. We arn't made of money and $3000 is what I would expect to spend on everything if I did go. The last 2 Cons were fun but I'm not going broke for G.I. Joe.

I can't figure out what they did to the brochure, other than perhaps screw it up. Now the information on Page 2 doesn't seem to carry over onto page 3 anymore.
Maybe some sort of cut and paste error.
There are now only seven packages on page 2/3 under the "Eight convention packages available" article, and two of those seem to be named the same thing. Page 2 now has the "Homefront Hero’s Package" and Page 3 has the "Homefront Hero Package", which seem to be the same thing.
I would imagine that version 3 of the brochure will be released soon.

The bagged set is in the brochure. It states that the extra bagged set will be $210 for those that purchased a boxed set.
Starfighter
05-14-2012, 12:35 AM
Also, the bagged set info is on page 3 of the brochure under "Additional Package Details". It is listed on the 4th bullet point. $210 for those that purchase the "American Heroes" or the "Homefront Heroes" packages. There are only 325 of those sets made. In total, there are only 925 Oktober Guard sets produced.
Btw, for those members that only want the bagged set, it is only courteous to pay a little extra as the person buying it for you had to pay the $46 membership fee as well as the $345 for the boxed set to get that to you. I know that some may think that those members are scalping if they request that you pay a little more, but they are hardly doing so as they are getting hit with credit card interest, taxes and possible shipping fees. That is what I have done for those the years that I could not make it to Joe Con. They also had to pay more for the boxed set to just sell the bagged set at cost. If you find one member willing to do so, know that you should really thank them for they could easily sell the bagged set for over $300 plus after the con. They are being generous if they sell it to you for costs as that is just money that thy could have had to reduce the costs of their boxed set. I am just putting it out there and telling it like the honest truth that it is. The past 2 modern era 4-inch sets have been the quickest sellouts for the club. The 4-inch modern scale is the "it" thing to have for G.I. Joe until something else comes along (hopefully Marvel Legends/DC Universe Classics styled 6-inch G.I. Joe in the A.R.A.H. style. -Just a pipe dream for now...).

Was it? I know that convention attendee exclusives sold out real quick before e show was over. I had assumed that the Boxed set sold out too by the time the show was over. I do know that the club had later sold some of e bagged sets later, but I thought they were not sold and used for insurance in case someone had problems.

Oh no, pretty sure boxes were still up after the con. Bagged have been up since the con, too. I think the problem was box sets sold out but they had Bagged sets left. So you had people who bought the boxed set and not the bagged, who were the only ones who could still buy the bagged sets. I expect to see these bagged sets at the auction this year after the Casino Night or at Bingo.

I'm really surprised that there wasn't a tour planned to visit the areas where the new film was shot, it seemed like a given to me as well as celebrity appearances from the cast.
I'm actually disappointed by the sounds of this con although I'm trying my best not to be...I only have enough time and money for one trip this summer and this one is starting to sound extremely expensive for what is being offered.
Anybody have any persuasive info they can share to help me make my decision?

Uh, thats $315 for the 12" set, $345 for the Oktober Guard set, so increase of $30.....and only the low low price of $29 to see the Retaliation move, pay for the bus to get you there, and a "free" movie poster. I suppose not so bad.
Should call it Operation Money Trap....LOL.
You got that right. I ran the number on just the convention items and gold tickets (not the Aide's packages as I have no idea how to track that). I also didn't factor in the classes, attending figures or any other extra items. If they sell out of everything they are looking at $384,000. Once we get the production numbers on the attending items and how many were made we can easily say this is a half a million dollar convention. I'm guessing Bot con draws similar numbers, plus both G.I.Joe and Transformers F.S.S. and we're looking at over a cool million dollars a year.
I imaging all the box and bagged figures for ARAH will sell out. There might be some 12 inch set left over. I have no idea how many scalpers will be buying the golden tickets so they might not sell out of those. Tough call on that.
Think about the golden ticket. They get an additional $22500 in pure profit. The only cost to the club is some " light hors d’oeuvres" and a "Exclusive Golden Ticket Cloisonne Pin".
Yep, our greed is making them rich.

The thing about the 12-inch set that I dislike is that it is as if they Stripped the Chenowth Desert Patrol VehicleFast Attack Vehicle to make it a race buggy only to offer the Weapons as an add-on for this years set. It hardly seems worth the money as they should have included those items last year. It seems that they are lacking in that set this year for just two 12-inch figures at the high price that is only $10 cheaper than last year. Last year's set seemed that you had much more value for what you purchased.

I had wondered where the base for last years 12 inch vehicle came from. I tried to google that but all I found is Elite Forces. Is that the same mold? Would Hasbro allow a third party mold be used in a convention set?

Hasbro actually made their version of the Chenowth Desert Light Strike Vehicle in 2000. The club had just repainted that and had stripped it down to it's bare minimums. The BBi version is a different one but also just as good.

I can't wait. BTW, I am the person on the last podcast that had the entire Oktober Guard friendly and foe list up. I have some down time at work and want to spend it on the hobby that I love. Of course, I do not let anyone else from work know about it though. I did a lot of data entry while in the military and have been very quick to put list together in a quick accurate manner. Please let the others on the Podcast know that too. Also, Beachhead Mike did mention that he picked up some joes at V-Stack in St. Louis. It is actually called "Vintage Stock" and they are a Midwest Chain that generally have a lot of Joes and things. They also have your favorive Gary,TRANSFORMERS.
As usual, I love the show. I would love to see you guys at convention too.

I was presenting an estimate on the raw numbers from the convention items only. There is a slew of other factors to consider, sure.
Of course I realize they have production costs, license fees, paying for the artists they use, the club magazine, web site services , salaries, etc. It would be moronic to overlook those things.
Personally I had not seen it in print anywhere where someone had looked at the numbers, added them up and posted it.
If anything it shows that they are not as "small time" as they appear at times.
That being said, I am allowed an opinion and I can say I think the golden ticket is most beneficial for the guys who want to sell stuff on Ebay AND the GIJCC themselves. They have minimal expense and reap a huge reward.
I realize I'm not having a "gun held to my head" and it's a free market, but that doesn't make it right to exploit the fan base.

Umm
It costs money such as hotel ($1,000 for 4-5 nights) and traveling to get to the con and most guys are buying more than one set to sell and offset the costs-so NO the expense is NOT minimal
Where the heck are you getting your information from??
And the "club is exploting the fans" argument is so tiring and overused that I am just going to leave it at that

I never once said anything about hotel and travel. Not sure where you got that connection from.
I'm getting my info from the club. It lists the production numbers and the costs to buy. It's not hard to add up the numbers and base previous records with this year. I "if" they sell out.
Are you a fan of the Golden Ticket then?

You said that, correct?
Which means that you meant that the Golden Ticket holders have minimal expense and reap a huge reward
BUT you leave out the fact that they are paying for transportation and hotel to go to the con
They then turn and sell the extras they bought to fund the their trip to the con. So where is this huge reward you speak of?
And YES
I am a fan of those that are willing to pay extra and go the extra mile to break even on theirt con experience.

Ah, I see where the hostility comes from now. You've interpreted my comment about the Golden Ticket being of minimal expense when I was talking about the GIJCC. When I said " They have minimal expense and reap a huge reward." I was not talking about the Fans. I've been to two conventions myself (not counting Joe canuck events), I know what is involved in going and being a mule for friends.
The focus on my posts has been about an estimate of what Fun Publishing will pull in if they sell out of all the convention items. Again, this was rough numbers. I have no way to know how many Aide packages they will sell, I don't know what they charge vendors to rent a table and I'd never know how much street traffic they generate.
I was saying it's likely that between Transformers and G.I. Joe that Fun Publishing is a million dollar company. That's gross profit and that is how most companies represent themselves. Gross profit means the money you bring in before expenses. I assumed most people would realize this, which is why I originally didn't feel the need to include salary, operating expense, etc...
Honestly I didn't think I would be breaking this down to the nitty gritty but hey, I'm all for a fun discussion.
Now your comment about "and YES, I am a fan of those that are willing to pay extra and go the extra mile to break even on theirt con experience". That's cool. I get it. You want to recoup some of your costs off Ebay. I've done the same myself. It's an open market. Economics 101 "Human wants vs Material resources". I get it. I just don't get why you would be on board with paying for a "Golden Ticket". I prefer the traditional way of getting in line, buying all you can hold, running to your car and getting in line again. Seems a little more fair to me then forking over $300 to a club that has basically nothing to do for you in return of that $300 other then saying "Oh, your special so here's 2 more sets, some snacks, front row seats, early crack at our guests and a pin". To me that's not a fair exchange of services.
That is once of the reasons I say they exploit the fan base. Obviously if you say you've had this conversation in the past and don't want to revisit it, then I'm not alone in thinking this way.
Now my Amazon order of the two 4 packs just arrived so I'm going to open them and eat my dinner.
Good night.

Tks Michael... I hope you are right.. if they change this it can be a deal breaker for me.
And sadly ... our hopes were wrong ... reading the FAQ at the joecon page I found out this:
"Question: In the past if you did a homefront hero package the shipping was free. Is this still the case, or not any more?
Answer: We use an online registration system now. Shipping is actual cost and calculated at the time of ordering."
So there it is, another "gift" for us from this "fantastic 12"inch joe club.... US$ 30,00 dollars up froms last year's price for the box, plus shipping ... wich if remember it right was aroun US$ 40,00 ... so in the end, the total cost will be around US$ 385,00 ... US$ 25,00 per figure ... for a half decent set? I´m really thinking ... NOT.

You should be able to login and see if your registration is correct. They have the "Expiration Date" listed as the Bill Date. If it is Listed for anytime after today for example, you should be fine as long as your e-mail address is correct in the system.

I will say I hate the golden ticket, just like I hate the upcharge "VIP experiences" you have to pay for to get up front at some concerts. Thankfully most of the shows I go to these days are at bars/clubs, or aren't huge shows that do that. Well, I will make an exception for AC/DC but still, mostly past the big concerts I used to go to.
I thought the multiple trips through the line for exclusive items ala the Dallas Convention or I think even Atlanta too, was okay with me. The $300 charge for what you get reeks of me that Mastercollector, much like Ticketmaster, is trying to get more of the money that the "resellers" make off their sets. However that is their right, and I'm okay if they decide to do that, and someone decides it's worth it to purchase.
However, what I am against, is the fact that it does "potentially" give the shaft to those that are going that might not even get ONE of each exclusive for their own collection.
For that reasons, I would like the option to pay up front for not only the convention set, but also 1 of each exclusives, whether they list the details or likely not (could say generic, vehicle $48, or 2 pack figures $48, etc) for two reasons:
A) guarantees me at least one of each exclusive
B) avoids paying local taxes which you are able to do with the registration and box set. Only if you buy the exclusives or a bagged set "on-site" do you have to pay the local sales tax.
LOL, anyway, I will get the one of each I need of the exclusives, and one of each Millville Resident who paid for my wife's set and for her to go with me, and if I get any extras it's gravy.

Well said. I was pretty ticked after spending 1200 bucks last year to go down there and ended up not getting any of the exclusives (I was only able to make it in on Friday night). Rediculous that we have to take off 2 or 3 extra days before the con just to get in line for the stuff.
But seriously, if they offered them up as a preorder, they would sell them like crazy, could increase their numbers too. They'd still make their cool half million, maybe more.

I wasn't saying it's a good thing, I'm just saying that it's not just Joecon that is like this, it's any convention that has exclusives. Like I said, it's annoying, but at this point we have enough precedent to know that if you want the exclusives, you need to be there on the first day, right at the start of the con.

Just like your exception for AC/DC, the Joe show is my own exception. I would never pay for a VIP experience at any other show. This is the one show of the year I want to be hassle free, so even without the higher spending limit on exclusives, I'd be buying a golden ticket, just like I did last year.
However, what I am against, is the fact that it does "potentially" give the shaft to those that are going that might not even get ONE of each exclusive for their own collection.
Misplaced criticism there. At the show last year GT was 3, regular 1 each. Without golden ticker holders it would have been 2 each per normal every other year. Even more exclusives would have been purchased opening night if GT wasn't in place. The better placement of criticism is that people who don't get golden ticket and who are in line only get one of each opening night instead of the normal 2. I'd be fine if they made it three each for GT and 2 each for everyone else. They're already first in line.
As for pre-buying, if you do that you lose the incentive for many people to show up at the show in the first place. Plus they would have to implement a pre-order system months in advance to handle demand or risk selling out of con stock before the show even happens. They would also then have to either announce the con set and attendee exclusives much earlier than normal or sell their exclusives blind to the customer.

Roshan,
Respect as I met you and we're cool, but I don't think it's misplaced criticism. I'm saying this can be made better. Why would it keep those from coming to the show, again the placeholder names would be generic so you wouldn't know for SURE what the exclusive is, and you still have to show up to get it.
I have a right to expect a HIGHER STANDARD for the kind of cash they are asking for, and for the fan base that makes their business possible. The Japanese have a term for continuous improvement, and this should be an improvement they should look to implement.
That being said, everyone who buys one set should be able to GUARANTEE they get one of each exclusive. if they make more exclusives than the guarantee and want to sell Golden Idols I could care less, but everyone should be able to get one of each IF they buy the big money box set.

Couple of questions...
If I buy a Golden Ticket, when is the earliest I can go to pick up all the exclusives?
If I DON'T buy a Golden Ticket, when is the earliest I can go to pick up all the exclusives?
I'm not a reseller, so I'm not really feeling the Golden Ticket thing, but don't want to waste my time waiting in line if I don't buy one & there's little to no chance of getting the exclusives otherwise. Finding a set on Ebay would probably (or rather hopefully) cost less than the Golden Ticket fee + the price for each piece.
