Came across this on Ebay tonight:
GI-JOE UN-RELEASED COBRA ISLAND INVASION SNAKE-EYES | eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/GI-JOE-UN-RELEASED-COBRA-ISLAND-INVASION-SNAKE-EYES-/250744439140?pt=US_Action_Figures&hash=item3a61888164)
Couldn't find any information on it. Have spent way too much this month to even consider it even if it is legit, but is this an actual cancelled piece?

i do remember protos of 3 joes in cg garb with removable helmets ,set to come with a night landing boat i believe....but it never got released. I think the body was later put out with faces head on it as a mail in offer, then reused again for the crimson sabotage set and the crimson strike sets but with yet a different head.

Indeed there was an unreleased multi-pack of Joes disguised as Crimson Guards, very rare if I recall. Peep Yojoe.com I think you can find info on them there, there database is choice.

I remember the fiasco regarding these sets well. Several online places put up pre-orders for them. I pre-ordered several sets myself. Then Hasbro pulled the plug on these sets so I naturally expected my money back. Problem was that the vendors had to send the money to their distributors before the product was released. Once it was cancelled, Hasbro and/or the distributors didn't want to give money back, just give the vendors credit on other stuff. The vendor I bought from didn't have any reserves like a good business should. I had to fight for months to get my money back. I eventually did but it wasn't fun. The vendor went out of business as a result of this and some other things.

What's scary though is that mask could've easily come from the mail in Agent Faces figure.

What a huge mess this set turned out to be.

That's a great business model. Take people's money for pre orders and then never release the product, so you don't have to pay to get it made.

Yup, 100% legit. part of a 3 pack, plus the boat from one of the commemorative edition sets

This is exactly why I refuse to pre-order anything I have to pay more than a 10% deposit on to reserve. If I pre-order a $300 item that gets canceled and I can't get back $30 it'll suck but I really won't be put out because of it. Now if I couldn't get back $300 then that'd have me fuming.

FF91, I think you and I may have ordered from the same place. Thankfully, when the whole fiasco went down, I contacted my CC co and they reversed the charge (I had ordered two sets).
Now just to clarify again, yes, this figure is very real. As others have mentioned, it was 3 figures in Guardsman garb along with a Night Landing Craft.

These came up for preorder around early waves of the New Sculpt era. I believe it was a 3 pack with Gung Ho Snake eyes and maybe agent Faces. I think there was a raft that came with the set.
I had preordered a couple of sets myself
Did you both order from Store on 44?
