I certainly don't mean to make fun of such a sensitive and serious subject, but I was thinking just this morning about my collecting habits as I went to Wal-Mart on the way to work, hoping that a stock person might have leaked Retaliation figures early, and this is the closest analogy I could find. I'm not a completist, and although I love GI Joe, I also love SW, some Transformers, some Legos, guitars, and smoothies from Dutch Bros. coffee. So I try to be fiscally responsible as well as consider the space which all of these things will use. I go through periods where I will binge --- I'll buy things that I thought I always wanted or that I think look color will somehow help out my collection. And I'll buy a fairly large amount of stuff in a fairly short period of time. Then, one day I'll take a step back and look at my collection and realize I didn't want this certain thing so badly after all, or this particular piece doesn't really go with my collection, or this thing was cool when it was released but now something better is out there. The focus of my collecting changes sometimes. As a result, I end up purging. It's sort of a viscious cycle. Don't get me wrong --- I'm a GI Joe fan. But I think this is indicative of my tendency to collect, regardless of what it is. Sometimes it's good enough for me to hold something in my hand and look at it, even if it's just for a little bit, then let it go. I'm sure a psychiatrist would have fun with this, but it's gotten better since I've really began to scrutinize what I think I want and situate my priorities.

Are any of the rest of you bulimic collectors?

I'm just a straight-up binge eater. I've got boxes of old 90's Toy Biz Marvel stuff that has all been replaced by much, much better MLs, but I just can't seem to get rid of them.

Trying to clear out unwanted items for old items actually not new stuff.

I suffer from Prader Willi, the part of my brain that is supposed to tell me that I've had enough doesn't work. I just keep buying almost everything I can get my hands on. I'm insatiable. I need help people.

I collect a couple different lines, G.I. Joe, Batman, and horror figures. I spend enough on these lines alone to realize I have no business collecting anything else. Lately, horror and Batman has taken a back seat to Joes though. What can I say, with Retaliation figures right around the corner and the discount DG Joes, its a good time to be a Joe fan. I tend to binge and purge somewhat too...only in a different manner. I recently purged my entire Marvel Universe collection for a TDKR Bane done in Joe scale(best custom I've ever seen in that scale...looks factory and well worth it) and an Agent Helix figure. lol I will purge only when I need to feed another addiction. I don't have much left that I'm willing to part with as a side effect. I'll never get rid of my Batman collection, or my Joes, But I've decided to part with some of my horror figures, but i'm keeping the Freddy, Leatherface, Scream, and Michael Myers stuff. Everything else I'll probably get rid of to help fund my hunger for Joes and the new TDKR Movie Masters line when it hits. So you could say I'm a selective purger haha

I really am bullimic and not offended at all... It's the brain telling you to do stupid things whether it's toys or food.

Ive only done that with modern stuff, got into it, got rid of it. Thought I liked it again, got into it, got rid of it. I am now learning to stay away altogether.

To the OP:

You're not bulemic, you're Manic. ADHD by chance? I have the same problems, go for a while in a drought then "the need" sets in and next thing I know I've purchased WAY more than planned. Though if it's not buying, it's something else - hit a manic phase one weekend and spent the next 20 hours cleaning my garage. Least it was productive :)

Nono this is new ground, this Completist Syndrome :0 or General's Army Builders Syndrom.... GABS I have GABS and CS BAAAD...nd there are currently no known treatments for any of these diseases...some Doctor could make millions studying us...books, noble peace prizes, movie rights...women and then he caves into his own GABS and CS an dlook he now has 13,500 vipers like EpicSteven Syndrome....ESS....the ultimate disease of all...then you can have "virtual" collections...that one is Freudian Impulsive Gap Imagination ...FIGI....due to a lack of direct and constant attention from our fathers to help us understand that "no you do not need to COLLECT them all" we fantisized about having collection larger then we could actually buy..so we create online lists to hold all of our deepest collection desires...never to have them...but they are always just a thought away...a
