TANKERS!

so I made up my mind and one major objective I have is to complete a collection of the 84 85 & 86 series of figures.
I dont really care to have them all complete I am just wanting figure representation for all those years.

My GI JOE love started with the toons and thus to me 84 is the starting year

How hard or expensive do you think it would be to meet this goal?
I know that most all of these figures were made in the 25th
but seeing as how alpine footloose & dialtone are never gonna be mine I wanna kick it oldschool!

If you don't care if they're complete you can knock out a goal like that in a matter of 3-5 months, easily, depending on your financial situation. 84-86 items are so plentiful there's nothing that you can't find and if you don't want the oddball figures (like Listen & Fun Tripwire (http://www.thegijoeindex.com/joeindex/usfigures/85/tripwire1a/)) most you can find for a couple of dollars on average.

Yeah, that's a pretty easy goal to target especially if you're in a part of Texas close enough to zip over to the con in New Orleans. I hear there are great deals to be had on a lot of stuff.

If you had the money, you could be done by tonight. And have most of it in hand by next week.

It's doable if you can afford to and have room for them as well. Plenty of room. Steer clear from Transformers cartoon since you may get swoon by that as well. They are very expensive, I shit you not.

id say buy them ccomplete if you have the cash, you may turn out to want them later and it will be tough/expensive to add the missing pieces.

PM and we could work something out. This would save me having to list on eBay. Prettysure I have spares of all 3 years and possibly complete. Definition; "spares" Perfectly collectable, C9 at minimum.

One thing I've learned over the years trying to rebuild my collection is don't get a figure thats incomplete, unless the part you need is also easy to get. Search first, search often. And remember, they made more than one. If you don't win an auction or whatever, just wait a few days or weeks you'll find just as good a deal again.

Expect to pay a lot for Storm Shadow, Firefly and 85 Snake Eyes. They're easily 20 bucks each and don't get one that isn't complete.

And if you need parts, find CTGlinks. He has parts, thousands and thousands of parts. So does Kokomo, both are excellent and you can't go wrong with either.

Don't buy o-rings on ebay, they're the wrong size. I've tried a few times and they're always the same. Either wait for the club to get it's store back online or just call them and see if you can buy some of thier Hasbro o-rings. I bought about 300 from them and they work perfect.

Be very careful of stands and busting out the side of someones foot. Be gentle when you try to put one on a stand, the stands from the ARAH re-issues in the early 2000s won't work, neither will any of the stands after around 1990. Unless they're the battlecorps figure stands. Those are of a much softer plastic and the peg seems smaller. They'll work on a lot of the early 80's figures.

Hmm what else, oh! Becareful of Duke and Beachhead. Either one of them have the most easy to break waists in the entire line.

And have fun reliveing the golden years of your childhood!

i sold my 82 - 86 collection with a few other figures thrown in from later years. Mine were in great shape with most weapons and most file cards. The collection went for just under $600. If I were you, I would buy a large lot like that and sell off what you don't want.

Just get a ton of money, a U-Haul truck, and go to the con. The venders there should have almost everyting you are looking for.

Yeah I am going to joe con,
I will try to pick up most or all of this stuff there I am assuming on sunday I may get the best deals

I would be happy just complete my 25th but I imagine at joe con
Dial Tone
Slaughter
Alpine
footloose
are all gonna be way expensive! 100 bucks or more. as cool as they are and I mean no disrespect to fellow collectors they just are not worth that much IMO. there is no way I can justify even 50 dollars on a single joe figure sorry LOL!
have any of you just went back and bought only the figs you had as kids? thats kinda another project of mine. But funny thing is I have more figs now than i ever had as kid!

I started that project back in January and I am still at it. Be very careful on what you are bidding on, as allot of these seller on ebay can be very deceitful. I know right now you say you don't care if the figure is complete, but trust me, later on you will wish they were. Many of the ebay sellers list their figures as complete and original, only for you to find out the the weapons are accessory pack. Also, I know someone mentioned buying LOTS, but I don't think that is the way to go, especially if you want figures in decent condition. You will find out later that allot of the figures you get in the LOT are in bad shape and you will want a better specimen. As far as cost, I'm at over 4G, but that is because I am also getting vehicles and playsets and upgrading my upgrades. I'm trying to finish 82 - 90.

Isn't that the truth, I had between 100 - 150 figures as a kid, now I have around 400 and that's just ARAH.

Yeah Transformers are out of control.

That's why I'm thankful I started collecting Transformers 12 years ago. They are way over priced. So, I'm more in to Joes lately.

I started to become a competitionist around 2002ish
I have all of 82-90 besides the crimson hiss, the crimson mobat (cat), the dreadnok ram, or either gliders. most everything else took some time. BUT that time has brought me so much joy. so have fun and happy hunting. You can make a really enjoyable ten years at least

Should be relatively easy. A lot of the more scarce and expensive figures weren't actually released during those years.

Once you expand a couple years prior and after, you'll have to track down guys like the Viper Pilot, Silver Pads Grand Slam (still need one of these myself... well, a minty one, anyway), Hardtop, etc. The only somewhat pricey ones you'll need to get are Snake Eyes V2 and Storm Shadow, I think.

if u ain't worried about complete it'll be cheaper, of coarse.
