So I got my order in today from ToysRus.com and I noticed that the Cobra Commander is different from the one found at Meijers a few weeks back. This one is the Black suit CC that looks alot like the Amazon Preview pack. It's also different from the pictured figure on the package which makes me think it's a variant. Date stamp "20671". I took a picture of the front and back of the two I ordered. I was hoping to get the classic blue uniform.



So the question is...did anybody find the same thing when they ordered?

Could be a factory error. In either case it will be a rare item, should have kept it sealed (unless there are more crappy packing jobs at the cheapo factory). There has been a lot fo shotty QC qork on the retaliation/Renegades 4 packs I been reading about in the variosu threads, like fused arms legs and such, pretty sad...but hey I guess thats hwat happens when you"cut costs" for a movie line...

Right now, I think it is too early to tell WHAT this situation is:

It could be a variant, meaning both colors will be shipping concurrently (at least initially). Given the kid focus, I find this option as unlikely.

It could be a running change, probably to increase film accuracy (which could make the blue one rarer). More likely than a variant.

It could also simply be a factory goof, that a black CC from the Amazon set simply ended up on a single card by accident and this will be a one off error (or small number of them)

It could also be a big hoax

So...again, too early to tell what is going on here. Solid.wii doesn't have a history of bullshit like a hoax, I'm inclined to think it is one of the first 3 options. But I'll wait for a few other people to report this before making too big a fuss over it.

In the past TRU has not allowed so many of one figure to be on one order, especially army builders. If those are one per case, then that's a lot of cases that are now empty of those figures.

B) It came from Toysrus and Wii has proof of that. Who else has gotten toys Retaliation toys lately? Not many of you eh? I suppose it might be a good idea to wait until you get some before assuming the case packouts. Toysrus is also notorius for getting variant figures! Just look at their track record with Marvel Universe and Marvel Legends.

C) What does have to gain by lying, really? What, he's going to sell it for $$$? Obviously no, if he was he wouldn't want to trade for a blue CC. I have no desire to own the blue really, which works out fine because around these parts I never find variants anyway. Remember the white coat Rex debacle? Yep never saw him in the wild around here, and I was logging some serious hours searching for ROC figures.

Of course, the big question is the exact situation. I still view it as entirely possible that solid.wii benefitted from a factory error of the black CC ending up on a single card, and there may only be a handful in existence.

Then again, maybe Hasbro will transition the blue CC to black to cover film accuracy.

I'm hesitant to call it an honest to god variant or running change until more are found.

They actually have. I received part of my order today. One Red Ninja, Roadblock, and Storm Shadow. I didn't get the three packs, other red ninjas, or joe trooper yet though.

I just got my Amazon 4 pack today and am BLOWN away by the CC and Snake Eyes. as a Gi Joe Reloaded/Cobra Reborn fan, the SE was nice nod.

What's your thoughts on these?

So far I've opened up CC and Red ninja. I like to space them apart so I can savor every moment. I don't read the comics much but CC's helmet looks sweet with the cobra logo everywhere. I'm not as bothered with the reduced articulation on CC since SE and SS have the extra articulation. Not only that CC doesn't need to bend at the ankles, he's usually standing up. I'd say he's my third favorite version, first being Resolute, and best of the 80s as the second.

Thanks for the support everyone. Now correct me if I am wrong, but I thought a running change was an intentional change after the initial figure was released. Like Cable with Baby was released first in limited numbers, then later on they ran the change without the baby.

Yep all the red ninjas and troopers are 20671. None of my figures are 20541. You get yours from Meijers correct?

Yeah, I was really excited for him but got the Amazon 4 pack yesterday and I'm honestly kind of disappointed in the Retaliation figs. He's got a good headsculpt, though, and I like his sash thing, so parts of him will make a good figure.

I'd say if you're an "opener" and have little interest in the extraneous "action feature" stuff, and any interest in the other figures in the set, go for the four-pack. I looked at it as a good way to get CC, Storm Shadow, and that version of Snake-Eyes. Roadblock was just an added bonus (though aside from the hand the figure isn't bad).

Someone mentioned using the black CCs as Shadow Guard, which is an idea I really like in the absence of a "real" Shadow Guard figure.

I am glad I got the 4 pack instead...that saved me 99$ on the full set of 9 figures(more funds for troop buidlers!) which a lot i did not want at all (like silly stupid duke, the lameo cobra paracute trooper, and the piss poor zartan)...I Will be able to get the first single carded Black CC (didnt care for the blue anyway), Storm Shadow, Roadblock and a more decent snake eyes then the innitial single card wave 1 SE. I was able to pre-order 10 of the red ninjas and 5 of the joe halo trooper so I am all set till wave 2! sweet!

No harm no foul bud. So Roadblock and Storm Shadow are also essentially the same figure as single carded releases. I don't know about Snake Eyes, I think the webgear is different.

Well it is still an amazon exclsuive to me, since you cant purchase those 4 figure together as a full set anywhere else. You can piece them together running around store to store, or shopping at various online locations, order a full case of 12 figures for 109.99 or you can buy thier exclusive offering, lota choices. The Storm Shadow and Roadblock are no different their single carded versiosn as well...I think the SE is only different in his webgear? All of this movie stuff really is not a hard core colelctors paradise anyway...Hasbro just offered a lot of options ot the various retailers who decided to support the Gi Joe movie with product. That is a good thing...not a bad thing...I would have liked to see some differences too...but it saves me from having to buy single carded figures having this 4 pack available....not all will go that route though...least I hope not...or we will see pegwarming the likes the god has never seen!

That said, the seller had 5 cases of figures up for sale, and I got a blue CC. The date stamp on the SE from the same case is the later 20671. I don't know if different date stamps can end up in the same case, but it would seem that they wouldn't. This would make me think that this is either a variant or a mis-pack.

Most Hoosiers collectors know each other either from Facebook, The COIL, COIL Con or Kokomo Toys. That is how I know Dat. He's been around long enough that I trust when he says he found something. He's earned that reputation with me along with many other collectors that I've met from around the state. I don't know you quiet well yet (can't speak for Dat), so I don't know your reputation quite yet, that's all.

Depending on what ships in wave 2, it is looking like the black Cobra Commander may end up the "default" retail version after all, and the blue one will be the hard to find version, but I still say it is too early to tell for sure.

Actually, the decision to change would have HAD to been made months ago. In general, it takes about 3-4 months to get toys produced and shipped over here. Given Hasbro's tendancies, I would NOT be surprised to see more running changes in this line.

That's what I'm thinking. Hasbro has said numerous times that the first wave was rushed and used concept/non-finished material to ensure toys would be out before the movie was released.

Personally, I think Cobra Commander IS blue in the film, it is just one of those "uber dark" blues that unless you get him in JUST the right light, it will appear black in "natural lighting"

Understandable. I once was a member on the SirSteve's Guide (http://www.sirstevesguide.com/forum.php) forums many years (1999) ago under the name "Darth Vellner". But, I've not been on-line much until I poped in here. I have been collecting since the start of the 25th line and some from before 2000,2004. I did check on news from the tank (before I joined) for years!
BTW- I hope to go to Kokomo's Coil-Con. just don't know what the future holds.

I thought it might be the other way around since no carded samples of the tan one ever showed up, so I took a gamble and won. I only paid like around 30$ for it so it wasn't that big of a gamble
