This maybe tick some people off but Cinco de Mayo is the celebration of Mexico's independence correct? So, how come the illegals up here celebrate it when they left the country? Why celebrate the independence of a country you left because you thought the oppurtunities for you and your family sucked and thought they would be better here.

omg my neighbors are ridiculous. We park on the street so when there kid turns 16 you would think they just won a million bucks. I have had to ask them so many tiomes to moves but its almost pointless they cant understand me anyways. My parents have had yard sales and they use theirs kids to discuss price and the hold the money for the parents. They are thrift7y with their money though. I will give them that.

lol right you do have a point about that but that was before this country was established as a "country" like it is now with rules, etc. Hell even then we had ellis island to document those that came in. They didnt swim across the ocean and climb the beach and start a landscaping company did they? j/k on the landscaping part that might be offensive.

They had their independence way before Cinco De Mayo. I believe it was about 50 or so years before.
Mexico was poor after the Mexican American War so they suspended their foreign debts. So of course France got pissed and declared war. Cinco de Mayo celebrates one of their major victories over the French.

Cinco de Mayo (Spanish (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_language) for "fifth of May") is a celebration (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holiday) held on May 5. It is celebrated nationwide in the United States (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States) and regionally in Mexico (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexico), primarily in the state of Puebla (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puebla),[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinco_de_Mayo#cite_note-mexonline-0)[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinco_de_Mayo#cite_note-NatGeo-1)[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinco_de_Mayo#cite_note-list-2)[4] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinco_de_Mayo#cite_note-globe-3) where the holiday is called El Dia de la Batalla de Puebla (English: The Day of the Battle of Puebla).[5] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinco_de_Mayo#cite_note-4)[6] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinco_de_Mayo#cite_note-5)[7] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinco_de_Mayo#cite_note-6) The date is observed in the United States as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride,[8] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinco_de_Mayo#cite_note-MexCon-7) and to commemorate the cause of freedom and democracy during the first years of the American Civil War (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Civil_War).[9] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinco_de_Mayo#cite_note-egpnews9337-8) In the state of Puebla, the date is observed to commemorate the Mexican army (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexican_army)'s unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Puebla) on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ignacio_Zaragoza).[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinco_de_Mayo#cite_note-NatGeo-1)[10] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinco_de_Mayo#cite_note-thomas.loc.gov-9) Contrary to widespread popular belief, Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico's Independence Day (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grito_de_Dolores)—the most important national patriotic holiday in Mexico—which is actually celebrated on September 16.[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinco_de_Mayo#cite_note-NatGeo-1) [11] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinco_de_Mayo#cite_note-DN-10)

Honest question here: If any of you "Americans" moved to another country, would you celebrate the 4th of July still" If you moved to Germany, would you, on the fourth of July, put up American flags, have a BBQ and shoot off some fireworks? For me personally, when you LEAVE your home country to go to another, REGARDLESS of reason, you are jumping ship (military personal excluded). I dont understand how people come here to escape repressive and tyrannical governments & dictatorships but still celebrate their "home countries" holidays.
And to be fair, I think all the people of Irish decent that celebrate St. Patrick's day here are kind of ridiculous. It is the celebration of Christianity being introduced into Ireland, but we have all these idiots wearing green shamrocks and using it as an excuse to get drunk. Seriously!?

If you live in and support that country, sure.
I know people who consider themselves Irish because their great, great, great, great, great grandparents came here 200 years ago. There is NOTHING about them today that is Irish. When St. Patricks day rolls around theyre all sporting their green stuff and getting hammered.
#1: What makes them Irish? They are of Irish decent, but there is nothing Irish about them.
#2: A day that should be celebrated as a day when Christianity was introduced to IRELAND has been relegated to a day to wear green, get drunk and act like an ass in America. Thats some respect.

First of all, pale skin and a short pecker make them irish so the least you can do is let them get drunk and act like an ass one day a year.

No worse than celebrating Christ's resurrection by hiding eggs that were laid by a 7 foot tall rabbit. Or celebrating Christ's birth by having a fat man in red velvet put gifts under a tree for you. Honestly I'm not religious in the least bit but we've really destroyed pretty much every holiday we've ever had.

Actually, its much worse in my opinion. Youre comparing Christmas (a holiday I celebrate not for religious reasons, but as a time of peace, love, giving and a time to spend with family) to a day in which the majority of people get hammered and act like asses (yes, I know thats a generalization, but its fairly accurate here in the Northeast).
