My co-worker just gave me Season 1 of Batman the Animated Series. To tell the truth, I was a fan of the show and watched it daily after school. In my opinion it really was one of the greatest cartoon series ever. It was dark and gritty just like Batman is supposed to be. I really have enjoyed the first two episodes. I want to know, who was your favorite Batman character and why?

Loved this series and have the entire collection on DVD. One of my favorite characters was Andrea Beumont/the Phantasm. Great dark side of Bruce Wayne, and still one of the best Batman movies ever!

The complete action figure collection? OK! It's official. I'm jealous.

But then again I am watching it at work so maybe I shouldn't be so jealous.

I too have the entire box collection. So many great moments in this series. And it has in my opinion the best representation of Mr. Freeze. EVER. This cartoon is the reason why he is my favorite villain.

Some amazing moments are:

The "death" of Clayface in his first appearance.
Babydolls revelation that she'll never be happy with who she is, at the end of her debut episode.
The introduction of Harley Quinn into the Batman mythos

there are seriously too many to count.

The Entire box collection. That is pretty cool. I want all of the volumes myself. I can't wait. Thanks guys, for keeping someone interested in a thread they started.

Tyger, Tyger is another good episode. However the episode I remember for sheer shock value was the episode where Batgirl is tossed off a roof and falls onto her dad's car as he's arriving to the scene. He unmasks her long enough to realize she's Barbara and then watch her die on the hood of his car.

YES! That was all a hallucination if i remember correctly, because Scarecrow blasted her with the fear formula before she got knocked out. But MAN was that episode intense.

For ultimate humor, you guys have to watch the episode with The Creeper. The only person to Punch Batman without looking, while flirting with Harley Quinn. and scarring the bejesus out of joker. Pure cartoon awesomeness in that one.

excellent series.I have a complete figure and vehicle collection too(minus the million variants)and I even have the elusive Robin Dragster.

I have the complete series and I absolutely love it.my favorite character from the series was The Joker and Hamills voice talent along with the excellent writing most Jokers eps received made it epic.

it also gave us Mask of the Phantasm.IMO the best Bat movie out there.

favorite eps?any Joker episode plus Almost Got Him and the Two Face origin.

greatness as well that Montoya and Harley were so well liked in TAS that they crossed to the comics.....excellence.

Don't forget actually making Mr. Freeze sympathetic (until Ah-nuld crapped on it).

I'm also a fan of the series, own all 4 volumes - though I haven't watched vol. 4, I just don't like the style change.

Some of my favorite episodes are;
"Heart of Ice"
"Two-Face"
"Feat of Clay"
"The Gray Ghost"
"The Man who Killed Batman"
"His Silicon Soul"
plus a lot of others, but those are my real standouts. Though I should mention "Tyger, Tyger" just for introducing me to Blake's poem.

For same trivia, on the 2 disc version of the first Burton Batman movie is a storyboarded deleted scene featuring Conroy & Hamill reprising their TAS roles.

I could never get used to the animation on the show I guess I was spoiled by the excellent detailing in Japanese animation that I just flat out hated Bruce Timm's Batman design, sure he says it was simplistic for better animation fluidity (or art deco, whatever the hell that means) but to me it was just cutting corners and looked like Hanna Barbera drivel.

The designs improved a bit when it moved to Kids WB and Bruce Wayne no longer looked like a disheveled guy in frumpy clothes.

As for the episodes themselves I think they made a mistake in releasing the whole batch of 65 episodes in the first season, many of them seemed repetitious and you had Batman fighting the random thug or crooked politician.

Art Deco is an artistic and design style that was really popular from the 1920s to the end of the 1930s. In architecture, engineering and lifestyle in general. The cartoon was designed to bring a modern twist to old school art-deco style. Thats why, in the series, they still use tommy-guns, blimps and cars that look like they have a classic feel. Hell, the cartoon is one of the reasons I fell in love with art-deco and studied it in high-school. I think its one of the reasons why the cartoon is great and stands out on its own...no other animated series had done that at the time. it was the only one.

I love this series as well and used to watch it all the time. To me it was really well made and watching it I could tell a lot of effort was placed into producing it. I loved the animation style and I'm also an anime fan and it was a nice difference in style. As a few other people have mentioned, it was art deco animation, which to me really fit the style of the Batman story line. For me, hands down, my favorite character had to be the Joker. In my opinion, Mark Hamill really made that character enjoyable to me. The animation was great and I found the voice acting spot on. There were so many memorable characters but Mark Hamill really made the Joker the top pick for me.

I love these figures and have almost all of them. My wife and I used to collect them when we were dating and it was my first foray into adult collecting. There are a few from those TRU figure packs that I wish I'd picked up along the way including:

*Commisioner Gordon
*Scar Face and the Ventriloquist
*Talia

I'm sure there are more.

On a side note....

It was the first animated series to use Black backgrounds, That's where a lot of its signiture look came from. It allowed night scenes without the need to color everything dark. Its kind of the reverse coloring of traditional animation.
