If the movie is even made, with a toyline, and the figure is sold with the actor's face (card art aka star wars) portraying the character, would you buy the figure if you hated the actor? imagine ben affleck's mug on flints card, could you separate that terrible image in your head from the figure? of course an actor of different caliber would have the opposite effect.
will hasbro not release a figure or vehicle if it is not shown in the movie, toys dictated by hollywood mediocrity? a question i wanted to pose to hasbro at the con, but the tendons in my armpit gave out after holding it up for 45 minutes. one thing that is unique to joe is the creativity and the element of surprise that is given, and i fear, fear, hollowoods limited imagination in movie-themed toys.

I doubt that the movie line will be solely restricted to things in the movie. That'll be the focus, obviously. But...now, I don't collect Transformers, but I've seen the movie a bunch of times, and I see lots of Transformer toys in the aisles in the same packaging as the movie toys that were definitely not in the movie. If the movie happens and the toy line based on it is successful, I'd bet we see much of the same thing.

I'm not sure. The 25th line is what brought me back to G.I. JOE. It's the only thing that I'm collecting and when they end the line I will most likely stop my collecting again.

If the movie line does well the flood gates for all the other stuff will open up. Reissues of bigger vehicles and playsets is possible with the movie line, even if they are not in the movie. See, with the movie, there is mass exposure and of course brand recognition. With those 2 in mind, there is a better chance for the older stuff to sell, rather than with nothing onscreen, like now.
The movie could be a huge resurgence for the toyline. The toyline has always been known for an affordable pricepoint. With the demand possibly increasing upon arrival of the movie, the possiblity for more toys increases, movie and nonmovie.

dibonaventura said they are going to use lesser-known actors (no big name people). so i doubt we will get anything like "Ben Fairborne".
thank god...

Joe has the additional plus of not relying on megastars that require huge paydays. Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura explains that their casting search is more about finding actors that are perfectly suited to their roles, regardless of their billing clout.

If the movie happens and the toy line based on it is successful, I'd bet we see much of the same thing. Exactly. I saw a movie-style Arcee in Target last week, but she wasn't in Michael Bay's film. Hasbro has also done Rhino, Shocker, Mysterio, Scorpion, Lizard, Kraven, and Black Cat in the Spider-Man 3 style, even though none of them have appeared in the movies, so it would make sense to do the same with G.I. Joe.
imagine ben affleck's mug on flints card, could you separate that terrible image in your head from the figure? Affleck was the bomb in Phantoms, yo!
But no, I won't buy any Joe toys based on the likeness of an actor portraying the character. Vehicles and Cobra troops, if they're scaled to fit with 25th Anniversary figures, are a different story.

:D love the quote
It was mentioned that the movie toys will be 3 3/4" and I'm sure they're gonna keep the 25th articulation so they should fit in with the figures. My take on it? If I don't like the actors face, I can either have a horribly scarred Joe, or I can pop their head off and replace it with someone else. There's also the possibility of dropping a helmet on the figure, obscuring their face and having a generic trooper

I will probably buy any and all movie toys, because for some reason I am a total movie toy whore. Probably because I got into collecting as an adult due to the ToyBiz Lord of the Rings toys, which were ALL actor's likenesses, I don't mind seeing it.
Unless, of course, they get some fugly chick to play Scarlett or Baroness.

Buddy Christ! Hehe, nice to see another collector with one.
At 3 3/4" I don't know how well they will be able to portray the actors face. But to honest, even if they can, I don't think it will stop me from buying any and all the figures I can. It's still G.I.JOE to me. :D

I wouldn't buy anything with Ben Afleck on it, Gijoe movie or not! He sucks! In all honesty I DONT believe I would buy any movie figures bearing the actors. I dont know why but I have never liked that. I actually bought a few Lord of the Rings figures before the movie came out and then I lost interest in buying the new ones because I really didnt care much for some of the actors . Generic is best with action figures.

i dunno, Christian Bale worked fine on batman begins toys. cant say the same for superman returns though. to me he just looks like some kid who won a contest on Mtv to be the next superman. or maybe Christopher Reeve was just that damn good.
but yeah at 3 3/4 scale, i think it wont be very noticable. i mean, look at recent luke figures. Mark Hamill? nope. just a face.

To be honest, to ne personally, I don't give a flying fiddler's elbow who's head is on the movie figures, as long as they are 3.75. I can always swap heads out, and speaking as a customiser, new heads are always welcome. That is why I love peopel like JFAK and Good To Go. The choice is no longer limited to Flint or Duke for generic looks.
Let's face it, hands up all those who are going to buy two 25th Stalkers because there are two different colour schemes, or all of the Shipwreck variants? So what is the difference between that and a different look on the movie figures. Please illuminate me on this. Seen it so often with the Star Wars community and I still don't understand it.

There's really not much illuminating to do. I'm just not usually into movie lines, period. I collect Batman and Superman figures, but I never bought anything from Batman Begins or Superman Returns. It's simply a matter of personal preference, and I really don't think Hasbro or Mattel do a very good job with movie lines.
STAR WARS films weren't an adaptation of something else, though, so they're a little different. Other than twenty or so carded figures when Revenge Of The Sith was released, though, the only STAR WARS items I've purchased in the last three years have been in the Genndy Tartakovsky Clone Wars animated style.

the question i posed came to me after countless trips to target and walmart and only seeing snake-eyes and stormshadow. it would be worse to walk down the toy-aisle and see a card with matt damon smirking at me as a peg-warmer, after burning $4-5 a gallon gas on the hunt. i shudder. i cannot believe there is actually a ben affleck action figure, god help us.

LOL, yes please do not illuminate! Why the hands up to variant collectors? They are goddamn obsessive compulsive freaks who Hasbro knows can alter one tiny thing and resell it to the same person a million times over. (okay not a million)
Actually it really is just personal preference. Its that simple. So if you like having an action figure with an actor's face then you will probably love the movie figs. I wont because I cannot stand to see a recognizable face with an action figure that I have watched in a movie countless times.
p.s. When I heard a rumor that Ben Affleck and Matt Damon were going to be Spock and Kirk in the new Trek movie I nearly vomited.

AVAC, need i remind you of the AFFLACK daredevil figures? :D
and speaking of mr. damon, thanks to team america, the only way i can sy his name now is how they said it on that movie.
"MATT DAYMUNN!"
however he kicked all sorts of arse in the bourne movies, and was great in The Departed.
but anywho, pretty sure we arent getting any big-timers to play the role of the joes. so we should be safe. "SHOULD BE". cross your fingers.
