View Full Version : I Love Sideshow....but

I yet to buy a Sideshow product, but I eventually plan on doing so and doing some army building when I get the dough. As emanored as I am with the superior quality of these works of art, have to question the characters their deciding to put out.

Snakes Eyes: I understand that SE is the most popular JOE and any verision of SE is going to move units, BUT did we really NEED a SE in his "green suit," uniform?

Ninja Over Kill. Sideshow needs to "stall out," on the ninjas. There's so many characters in the COBRA Command that could make e.g. Snow Serpents, Eels, (hopefully in a redesigned uniform,) a pilot, a medic, COBRA troopers and officers in a full dress uniform. That brings us to named characters

When are we going to get:

The Baroness

Destro

Major Bludd

The Twins, (hopefully in a Crimson Guard uniform. I personally hated the circus suits,)

For the JOES

Scarlett

Grunt

Snow Job

Doc

Lady Jaye

The Soft Master

Roadblock

Ace

Gung Ho

I think Sideshow needs to release some of characters before they give us another ninja; actually they need to stop releasing ninjas.

Yeah, I want to see more variety. I want to see a B.A.T. personally.

I believe Baroness has been confirmed. Destro and Snow Job will be announced soon (according to an inside source). The CG will be here soon and, even though I hate it, it is a nice addition. The roster is expanding, slowly but surely. The good thing is all the recent figures have been home runs.
As for the ninjas, it's pretty simple- they're cheap to make. Same reason we have tons of troopers and officers. They're basically like a repaint. They save a lot of money because the tooling is already there. So it gives us a new figure but also allows nearly zero turnaround time from announcement to release.

I think a Sideshow BAT would be killer.

Let me say this: if the Firefly didn't pulle me into Sideshow collecting (and it didn't), nothing will. I love the work Sideshow puts into these. I love the articulation, the detail, the accessories. The scale is perfect for all of those things. However, for me, cost and space and an overall prohibitive. That's just the way it is. But as a fan who likes looking at stuff on the Internet, I think it would be awesome to see more Sideshow characters with a greater variety produced.

Been there done that... Sideshow is just too expensive and just not as fun as the 3.75" Joes... No Vehicles, posing is not nearly as easy ( the clothing can be restrictive at times), and you have this feeling that you just paid well over 100 bucks for 1 figure when you could have gotten a case of figures for that much... Like fireflyguy, I now just prefer to ogle at them on the web...

The ninjas are not an issue, they are filler figures that sell to the ninja guys who want them., They are a simple way to recoup a lot of costs and in some cases immediate cash flow for R&D you mention on these other figures. They dont make a huge ammount of these figures and then you have the regular versiond that may or may not sell out so that hurst their revs. I dont think they should stop/hold back on anything they are doing and just keep it going. They are doing something right to keep pumping out incredible figures like my recent Zartan and Firely the hands down best figure they have ever done. So more power to em....

But do we actually, need a something from the JOE line every quarter? (I'm guessing that Sideshow drops a figure every quarter,) I think that theoretically, that Sideshow can use the same principle with other characters. Sideshow does such a good job, they should venture out and create an entirely new character. I just feel the ninjas are starting be overkill, and the COBRA Desert trooper was a dud. Really though, who's trying to army build COBRA Desert Troopers?

Having new figures for sale every month helps keep the interest in the line high. What doesn't appeal to you may appeal to others. They're not wasting a spot in the line by releasing another Ninja or trooper, they're simply keeping product on the shelf. The release of the Black Dragon Ninja didn't take the place of a future figure, it simply gave us something to buy while they develop their new figures. It takes time for them to design, develop and release a figure. So why not have essentially ” repaints” released to keep the interest up and money flowing in? Personally, I like the ninja repaints :)

As far as I'm concerned,Sideshow should be doing 10 figures a year...along with other Environments, etc

waiting YEARS to get your favorite or ALL the characters stinks.I don't want to be collecting these when I am 70

I think if they were smart, they would stop with "Exclusives" and just put the extra item in all their figures. they end up getting stuck with non-exclusive figures that they'll never sell.

I would love to see a Bat. I would buy that one as well as a Snow Serpent if he was made.

The Desert Troopers are pretty cool. I like them better than the Ninjas, but they should have given them unique head sculpts like the Ninja Viper and Black Dragon Ex have.

Crimson CC is the only SSC figure I have no use for.

I don't want more ninjas but aware of why they do them, I still support the line fully and will continue to do so, buying these filler figures gets SS doing more complex characters with alot of gear like Zartan, if there is an interest then this line will continue, and I will do what I can to get many more key characters

I kinda wish they'd release the accessories without the figures. I know, that sounds weird but I'd love to take the gear of some of these figures and put them on the 12" Joes I already have. For example, I love the gear and uniform on their Duke but I didn't like his headsculpt and would like to put the accessories to a 12" Duke I already own. However, I do not want to pay over 100 dollars for a figure just for the accessories.

Agreed. The reason I will never own a R&R b/c the only one I think looks good is the exclusive head and I jumped on the boat too late for that. It seems that all these exclusives do is raise the price on the secondary market which helps the consumer and sideshow zero.

This. You would think they could listen to all the comments and critiques and offer an accessory pack that caters to the masses with additional accessories. Additional snake eyes head pre re-release, updated Flint head, and every other piece that people have been asking for. Sell a Pro body and a bunch of random ass accessories that make a figure but with the additional accessories that allow them to complete their other figs. It would take some serious x-referencing but it could be done to give the fans the most for their approx. $150 price tag. and let them complete or buy past pieces that would give them the fig. they wanted.

The problem I see with that is when you buy a new figure you're basically paying for a new head sculpt, clothes and accessories. Meaning the box, packaging, boots, body and hands are all reused from figure to figure. So if they sold just a head and accessories you could make a figure for relatively cheap instead of buying it from Sideshow.

I am happy so far with what Sideshow has put out, even despite the Ninja triple dip (Red, Viper and Black Dragon...Storm Shadow I won't count) and the environmental specialists (desert Cobras). It keeps the line fresh and keeps product available.

I got lured in with Firefly and Beachhead, and have been hooked ever since. Yeah, you're dropping over a hundred bones on a glorified doll, but they are just so detailed and once you "futz" with them enough you can get some great action poses you can't touch with the smaller Joes.

Ultimately, they are display pieces...meant for a glass case only to be taken out to change the pose or head sculpt. Not meant for playability like the 1/18th. I love displaying mine in my office or in a bedroom and just love to look at every detail from their weapons to how they carry all their gear...all the way to their facial expressions. So realistic.

I would love to see some more variety and specialists, like a Navy SEAL (Torpedo) or a pilot (Ace), and Cobras like Major Bludd and Scrap-Iron. Sideshow can keep them coming at one a month or 10 a year...just hope they don't get in the habit of releasing three figures in a 30 day period (Rock 'n' Roll, Black Dragon and Zartan...my wallet is still smoking!). Keep them spaced out...mix in some new characters with a few repaints/environmental troops and Joe fans are a happy camper.

For those of you on the fence, it will only take that one purchase to get you hooked! Pictures don't do them justice...you got to unpack and set one with with all their gear. Then you will ask why you waited so long...

Snake-Eyes exclusive.....never looked back.

PimpDaddySatan
04-30-2012, 01:30 AM
Yeah the exclusives are a little screwy, like I don't understand making accessories that should be with the character no matter what as the exclusive. For instance, Storm Shadow should have had nunchucks no matter what, Duke should have had binoculars no matter what, same with stalkers sweater. Now exclusives like the extra viper head, or snake eyes hand with punch knife, or fireflys bomb, those don't really matter or make the character, so stuff like that is fine. Golden rule if the hasbro action figure had it, then a $100+ doll should have it!

.....but every darn figure i purchased from SSC has had a stiff jointed prometheus body, that when forced a bit has broken. tired and frustrated at this nonsense. even the service department is useless over there. sorry to put a damper on the thread..

The Twins in Siegie Uniforms

C.C. in his original uniform

The JOES in their green suits

Hawk in a different uni with blonde hair

S.E. in this uniform:

http://i.ebayimg.com/t/1991-G-I-GI-JOE-HALL-FAME-12-SNAKE-EYES-MINT-ACTION-FIGURE-W-ROUGH-BOX-/00/s/MTA5OFgxMzMz/$(KGrHqFHJCEE9EDFg9wmBPYULnsgC!~~60_35.JPG

I've always liked this uniform because it was radicially different from anything S.E. ever wore.

The JOES in dress uniforms.

Torpedo in a SEAL uniform

The Baroness in her orignal uniform with accessories and maybe a trenchcoat or a quarter length jacket.

Of course the Oktober Guard, Dr. Venom, Gen. Flagg, and the honorable Kwinn.

Sideshow should also just add a new addition to JOEs or COBRA, Hasbro should also consider having a contest and the winner of that contest will have his figured immortalized in the 3/4 and 12" size.
