View Full Version : Based on the Trailers....

After seeing the trailers, I can honestly say that this movie looks promising. It seems in that the screen writers did their research and are going to have the JOES doing things that the JOES do.
Not for nothing, it seems that for the first film Stephen Sommers and Stuart Beattie seemed to focus on the wackier and weaker aspects of the JOE mythos. Just as with Superman, what makes the character work is his humanity, what made G.I. JOE work was that it was based in a militaristic realistic reality and Hama (for the most part,) didn't insult his audience and the supension of belief wasn't that high.
The biggest problem is that we've seen this story before, (in one form or another,) so I'm interested in seeing how the story is going to be told. Unlike RoC, Retaliation, (from the trailers,) looks like it's going to be a welcomed addition to JOE lore.

I agree, and yes we will see. I hope all the hype is worth it. The trailers look great.

Roc wasn't that bad.
I have yet to see RoC, I'm going to have to get around to before I see this so I'll have a point of reference.
Personally seeing this movie felt like a reboot with them making Roadblock the leader. CC kills Destro and says yourservices are no longer required.[/QUOTE]
NICE!!!, but from what everybody says, Christopher Ecclestonwas one of the few bright spots in RoC. I could really give a flyin' eff about spoilers, and I don't think I'm giving anything away that the trailer possibly didn't elude to, but I wonder how many fanboys will cheer and let a hearty "Yo JOE, if Channing Tatum K.I.A. in the movie.

You wont need the point of reference thats one thing I really glad they did with this one. This show was setup so you could enjoy it without seeing ROC. I would skip it at this point unless your a super die hard fan that must watch EVERYTHING joe joe. Its ok if your into X-men meets the Joes for sum fun with with James Bond's Spectre Cobra along with the Ramstien Darth Commander feel is sooo weak compared to the new commander...

LOL. I need to see RoC for "I told you so purposes," for all of the JOE Stans that were "capin" for RoC a few years back.
My problem with the Joe 2 is that in the latest TV spot I saw they bumped off half the joes from the first movie.I don't know.I know some of the actor from the first Joe movie declined to be in the sequal but still.

I hated Rise of Cobra, but i always give things a second chance. and Retaliation looks like MY type of GI JOE movie : )
I love that they are making this film for people without past knowledge of ROC, even though explaining Zartan and Storm Shadow will be tough to get around. Also i hope they don't kill Destro : (

This movie seems to draw more from the comics - particularly the more recent comics - than the writers imaginations. The rebooted ARAH comics had Cobra as a security force. DDP had a covert chief of staff who tried to have the Joes exterminated. If you go back and read the comics, you see that Roadblock is often a leader - definitely not an officer (as he is not in this movie) but a top sergeant. A classic scene was his giving advice to Tripwire when he throws himself on a bomb instead of disposing of it. The look certainly looks very IDW. I see plenty of room for concern - how Colton is introduced, how Firefly is used, how the Joes fight Cobra with such a small force, etc. They could easily edit this poorly and make it horrible. But at least it looks like a Joe movie so far.

I'm very excited for the new movie. I didn't hate RoC, but there was so much missed potential. I really feel like this will take off, especially with Dwayne and Bruce headlining. I shudder to think about what would happen should this movie NOT be successful, so I try not to go there.

Do you realize the writers didn't know what to do after ROC so they did the usual cheap & easy cop out & killed off most of the characters from the 1st movie? Not because it makes a good story, but because it was the most convenient thing to do. Killing off majority of the Joes just to make some whining bitch fan-boys that didn't like ROC happy is a welcome addition to Joe lore??? No! It's just more bullshit added to the usual pile of Hollywood bullshit!

Hmmm... Ok.
Well, playing devils advocate here... the whole premise of ROC, or at least the underlying plot was to get Zartan in the White House. And once the major villain is in that position of power, what's he going to do? Eliminate the enemy. Grab power, eliminate the enemy.
I don't see it as typical Hollywood bullshit, I see it as the logical next step in the series. Now, do I like the fact that they killed off a bunch of Joes? F**K no! But I do like what I see for the most part, and will happily hand over my hard-earned cash to catch the flick on opening day.

I have to preface this with a full disclosure, I have yet to see RoC, everything I know of it is second-hand knowledge. From what I understand, with the exception of Rachel Nichols, Marlon Wayans (performance wise), and some people, I'm forgetting the JOEs were out of charater. I don't think it's some of as an issue of whiny fan boys, but one of Hasbro and Paramount not being satisfied with the end product. Seriously, the movie got one star and resoundingly trashed and basically regarded as all around cluster fuck.
If RoC was able to do what 1st Class did, then we probably wouldn't have what seems to be such a radical departure from the first movie.

Co-sign. What C.C. does is some straight up "Night of the Long Knives," and isn't asking the viewer to suspend belief too much. Also it's very realisitic that the JOEs would suffer a heavy loss. It happens in the military all the time. I just would've prefered Firefly taking them out, as opposed to them getting strafed.
