Charlie Adler Voicing Cobra Commander In Retaliation

The good news just keeps on getting better. It's being reported online (Wikipedia lists it as well) that Charlie Adler, who voiced Cobra Commander in both GI Joe: Resolute and Renegades, will be voicing him in Retaliation as well.

As reported previously, some dude named Faran Tahir is playing the guy under Cobra Commander's mask, but he's just the body. Charlie Adler's doing the voice.

Awesome news, IMO. Adler did a great job of incorporating some of the old-school 80's CC, but making it gritter, more realistic, and way more menacing.

I never liked this voice for Cobra Commander. The voice does not fit the character as well as what the original voice actor Chris Latta was able to portray. This goes for Starscream as well.
I am sure some fans will be happy with it but, I would have liked to hear something approximate to the original..

Prowse was hardly a 'name' actor. The fact his face would not be seen or his voice heard wasn't an issue because he was a, frankly very poor, actor best known for either playing the "Green Cross Code Man" on British telly, or dialogue-free strongarm 'heavies' in various ITC action shows or comedies. Besides, given the state of the UK film industry in the 1970's, actors couldn't afford to turn down any work.

Farin Tahir on the other hand is a known face with a highly visible body of work, especially within the sci-fi/fantasy genre, so again I wonder why he (or any actor) would take a role where he is neither seen or heard.

Well I don'tthink Tahir will be reprising his roles in Star Trek 2 or any Iron Man pic (considering he dies in both)... He took the job because he's an actor. Speaking role or not this is still probably his biggest gig to date. He's playing Cobra Commander. The main villain a 60 year old franchise.

If Faran Tahir is playing Cobra Commander, than he will undoubtedly appear without his mask on at some point. If for no other reason than to prove Chu's claim that he is a different person from the Doctor. Just let him provide his own voice.

Like Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime, only after the fans demanded it? Yeah... there's good precedent for this actually, letting the cartoon voice actor do the movie character. It worked well for Transformers, so why not for GI Joe now, since the character is essentially faceless this time around? They sometimes DO make a good call in these matters. :)

I consider this a good thing, just for the record. I liked his portrayal of the Commander in the cartoons. He made the character seem more serious and threatening than Latta did (no offense of course, Latta was a great voice actor too, but that Commander had a humorous side to him in addition to the sssinisternessss...)

And for anyone not liking the idea that it could be the cartoon Commander's voice, keep in mind his voice direction may be different here. The movie voice could be altered from what we heard in the cartoons.

Though the Rock and even Bruce Willis are kinda' cartoon characters, so why a cartoon Commander voice would be out of place here is beyond me!

And I kinda' liked The Doctor's voice in the last one, though it was quite over the top. It sucked that at the end it changed to a Darth Vader voice which was too heavy and not at all like what one would imaging Cobra Commander having though... glad that will be rectified in this film (assuming this rumor is true.)

I have to agree. When Rex puts on his final helmet in RoC, the voice alterations is deep and menacing. I liked it.

Adler's CC impersionation is too weaselly for my tastes. Hopefully Chu takes RoCs lead by using the deeper more menacing voice which grew on me. The weaselly voice is too annoying to command respect and authority. However, the deeper bravado inspires fear and obedience. Imagine Darth Vader with a weaselly complaining voice. Makes you think of what the Joker asked in Dark Knight: "What happened? Did your balls all drop off?"

You're an ass you know that, right? There was A LOT wrong with RoC. Even non-GI Joe fans hated it. Why? BECAUSE IT SUCKED!!! Even as an action movie, it sucked. It makes Revenge of the Fallen look like Inception.
