Tankers,

I would like to add some weathering effect to figures and weapons. Is it ok to just drybrush without priming or painting? Does anyone have any pics showing the just drybrush effect?

thanks!

Sometimes all a figure needs is a wash or drybrushing.

Still have to clean the figure first.

Yep.
Clean them first, dry them off and then apply the inkwash and/or the drybrush.
This enhances the appearance of most figures, unless you prefer a toy soldier-look.

I don't use primer anymore, but after dry brushing, I always spray a matte sealer on the piece. Prevents chipping and rub really well.

sometimes i brush/wash, sometimes i dont.

(hmmm that sounded like an admission of bad hygeine taken out of context)

Does this matte sealer leave a glossy effect? Nothing worse than a glossy figure!

nah, matte means flat, like testors dullcote. they have glosscote, which gives the glossy look.

What is the best matte sealer to use out there for figures?

I prefer Testors dullcote, but it's pretty expensive for the tiny spray can you get

Krylon makes several different sealers but their finish always looks "grainy" to me, and it also seems to stay just a tiny, tiny bit tacky after it's dry. It costs about the same as the Testors sealer but you get a big can of the stuff.

yeah, i think testors dullcote is well worth the $.

Basically, I want to drybrush the Renegades Scarlett figure and make her look as if she's seen a little action.

Any suggestions (RE: colors/wash) to make her look like this:

Take some Tamiya (testors or whatever brand you like) black paint. One drop of black paint for about 10 drops of paint thinner. Then just use a brush and apply. The mix will go in the creases and what not. The look above is a wash and not dry brushing.

I have a few Citadel Models washes, mostly flesh wash and Devlan mud (brownish). Would you recommend that?

It looks more like a dark brown wash was used in the picture, so Devlan mud will probably do what you want.
